I wish we had spring bear hunting. I just bought a Browning Xbolt. A Hells Canyon Speed Long Range 280AI. Now, I'm looking at scopes. My new scope i want the dail.

I think the dial is probably the way to go. Unfortunately the most reliable systems seem to be a bit heavy.

As expected.. that shoot! No 358? Im prepping 358NM brass right now!! 50 re formed 338's & 50 358 Norma cases!

Not needed for a little black bear. I did sight in the 450 Bushmaster with the 1.5X Weaver for brushy terrain.

@@north61 I really like my Ruger 450Bolt. Mine wears a M8-3x Leupold W/German #3 Shoots very well! I want to get same in Ruger Gen2 but in 400 Legend. I have a M8-2.75 ready and waiting for it! Also a 220g mold For cast bullets.

I love the little thing... No longer cutting edge optically but nothing else quite like it either!

Your bear hunting is different than mine in northern Michigan. I have 60 yards shots over bait.
@north616 ай бұрын
Not allowed to bait here. All spot and stalk. Need to be prepared for a wide variety of ranges.

For a second I thought you were getting 3158 with those 168gr tsx out of the 06. Was sitting here thinking wth powder load is he using 😂 That's a spicy meatball
@north616 ай бұрын
Yup 300 WSM!!!! in 30-06 that would be about 158fps too fast, even when pushed to the wall....sorry about that!

Any luck spring bear hunting?

Found a great spot where the bears show'd up every day but my new hunting partner (my wife) didn't want me shooting them once she saw them. Hard to put that in a video!

Fun prep! Good you will hunt with your son, creates great memories. I have a Tikka 300WSM and I've heard Tikka rifles have slower barrels generally. I'm at 3110fps with the 168 TTSX, Norma brass, Fed215M primers and IMR4350. What is your load? I also have several 30-06 rifles I am working with. Thanks
@north616 ай бұрын
I am getting the best velocities with accuracy from RL 17. I am using Federal Match primers and Win Brass. The 168 TSX is giving me about 0.25MOA better accuracy than the TTSX. Tikka's have 1-11 twists and are good for all but the heavy VLD bullets.
@Accuracy1st6 ай бұрын
@@north61 I can't find Re17 anywhere. I've got a 150 TSX load with a WLRM primer at 3255 and Superformance powder, Nosler brass, same rifle. I also have a 180 Nosler Accubond load with StaBall 6.5 at 3085, Norma brass, 215M primer. Would love to get some Re16, Re17, and Re26 - the latter I imagine I'd wait at least a decade to find at this point
@north616 ай бұрын
@@Accuracy1st I have a good load with TTSX 150 grain bullets and Super-performance similar speed to you and moderate pressure readings... The Staball 6.5 I stoped at 3020 with 180 grain bullets and fairly heavy pressure signs. RL 17 seems to be the best powder for 165-180 grain bullets..worth looking for!

Do you hunt black bear regularly? How do you rate the meat compared to your other game animals? This year will be my first year trying black bear hunting and have never tried the meat before, I'm from Atlantic Canada so they are plentiful here.
@north615 ай бұрын
Just started... I never thought it was edible until watching Ryan Lampers... so pretty new bear hunter here. Spring bear is very good if they have been eating vegetarian which they typically do in the Spring and if they are wild bears that live far away from a garbage dump.

If a 1/4 mile is 440 yds., how is 325 yds. a 1/3 of a mile? 325 yds. is just under 1/5 of a mile. Nice shooting, good luck on your bear hunt.
@north616 ай бұрын
Yup..that was really bad math on my part. let's see...can I claim old age?
@nathanadrian77976 ай бұрын
@@north61 I'm an old drag racer, and through the fog and tire smoke I could vaguely remember the 1/4 at 440. That said, you are shooting way better than I do, so I guess I need to up my game a little.
