Short Documentary about the Northern Soul Vinyl / Recording collecting. Based in Chesterfield (Derbyshire).
I made this as part of my HND but went further and made it into an independent documentary.

Northern Soul collectors in the UK are fascinating. The music is usually average, if not poor, so what is the attraction to the vinyls, often obsessive. One theory is heat, the sounds evoke or reverence equatorial conditions, in Northern UK, a bleak space climate wise, an obvious escape, hope, longing.

Wigan Schmigan. Do they actually like Soul music in it's entirety, or only *Northern Soul*? There's little mention of anything else. Have they ever been to a Soul concert? Do they have any ballads? Do their 45 releases all end around 1970?

Well, the title is Northern Soul Record Empire, so that kind of gives if away. As for Soul concert's, yes, they have been, I know that for a fact. They all collect Northern Soul records, and they love that sound, that's why there's little mention of anything else..

How is it a waste? If you appreciate any aspect of Film and Northern Soul and RECORD COLLECTING (what this is about), then you would appreciate this little documentary. It's about real peoples stories and record collecting, if you read the title. You do not have to listen to these songs whilst people are talking about it because there's frankly too many. If you can't appreciate art, there's no need to be that negative. Look at the collections on here, people have heard the songs 1000 times, this is about how they got the records. Cheers for your feedback anyway, at least 5000 other people watched and liked it :)

Liam Andrews Nice say m8,, as indicated: t'was made as in mem of Monah, he was the geeza, ever so friendly as always back then, who said to Sammy n Pete W "lads, dontcha worry HOW you look on the floor - when the sound gets you you'll KNOW it, you'll dance, KEEP ON!" That was at Bons Main, Tues nights 76/7, our induction, then eventually to WC and on, etc. Whatever happened to Mick Goodwin btw?
