I use to have mourning geckos in a 30x30x30cm exoterra and they did great i there I originally brought 3 or 4 and when I gave them to a friend around a year and a half later there was 7-8 and I gave them an extra tank from my crested gecko who passed away a few months after I bought them and now there doing great at my friends house (Had to rehome because of studies and time but I recommend these they are like a tiny version of crested geckos and they can be kept in groups unlike other geckos) hope this helps.😀

My morning gecko got loose about 2 months ago maybe as long as three and it's as still winter here. I was really bummed about because is was a accident on my mothers part in not realizing the lid to the tank was not seated right. Well I lucked this morning as when I was fixing the table I keep my tanks on and who should I find alive and well but my little Morning gecko. The or at least she is a hardy little girl

Actually there are no "male" Mourning Geckos. They are ALL female - and have the internal organs to support egg development. When held as singles in a tank, Mourning Geckos tend not to lay eggs as much. They seem to need external stimulus of a group to "trigger" the egg development process. It may be a latent genetic trait/leftover from way back when they "needed" a partner. That's why colonies explode with babies. They are not actually copulating - they are sight/scent/feel stimulated to start their internal cloning mechanism. Likely genetic programming tells them that since there are many other geckos in the area, then it must be safe to start producing and laying eggs to ensure success. Hope that helps - and good luck with your "male" geckos ;-) You'll be fine... :-)

So my journey started with a single girl in an 18"x18"x24" exoterra that my demon female cobalt dart that killed two males so she will continue to be single lives in. It's a dart enclosure and is decked out top to bottom with plants and background. About a year later I noticed a juvenile gecko. Two years later I can't tell you how many geckos exist in my house. I have 15 dart enclosures. I have been relocating the geckos when I can capture them. The babies are tiny I can only guess as to how many live outside of the enclosures due to escape. I don't feed the repashy gecko diet anymore because I'm afraid of it rotting. They only exist on dusted fruit flies, they are tiny dinosaur monsters and are extremely adept at hunting. All of the eggs that I have seen are deposited in a single location as far back and up as allotted on the plastic of the lid. I do nothing specifically to keep them alive outside of what I do for the dart frogs. They have made a living and are thriving despite that. Bioactive is the only way I would suggest keeping them.

I’ve a question: If you do plan on selling babies, how old should they be before you do sell them? I’d hate to sell someone a baby that ends up not thriving or harm the baby gecko itself by getting them new homes too soon. Btw, I have 2 geckos and currently 4 eggs so I’m a ways out from selling any, but I like to research things as far ahead of time as possible.

How do you keep the morning geckos from going into the fogging tube? Did you put a mesh screen on the tube opening?
@doggerel492 жыл бұрын
I know this is late, but I use mosquito netting fabric to keep my tiny Ranitomeya dart frogs from crawling up into any tubes. The fogger is their favorite, but they can't get in! :) I superglue a small piece of the fabric around the end where the fog comes out. If it ever becomes loose, I then use a strip of Gorilla waterproof tape. But so far, only had to do that in 1 tank (out of 6). Good luck!
