For anyone interested, it goes like this: Catholicism was the original Christian faith. Orthodoxy developed as a pseudo-schism by the separation of Rome from Constantinople during the fall of the Western Roman Empire - there wasn’t a big formal break when the two began to diverge but are today different sects. Protestantism split from Catholicism in Central Europe. Protestantism is the number of sects where things explode. Alongside or descendent from it you get Lutheranism, Calvinism (today descends usually to Presbyterianism), Methodists, Anglicanism/Evangelicals (England and US sects are pretty different though share the name and lineage - also Baptists and Episcopalians descend from it), Adventists, Quakers, Anabaptists, Brethren… and many more. Cultural influences and time have caused many sects that share a name and ostensibly the same beliefs to look very different, most notably between the US and Europe. Mormonism is actually uniquely American and one of the most recent major sects. There are also sects in the near and far east, and some in Africa, though they are obviously not as popular.

Me, a Lutheran pastors kid from Illinois who spent 2 decades going to church every sunday: ... right Actual answer: Most christians I grew up with wouldn't consider mormons as 'saved' due to differing beliefs on the trinity, an entirely different holy book said to be given to Joseph Smith by an angel (According to St Paul who wrote like half the new testament, 'if we or an angel from heaven were to preach another gospel, let him be eternally condemned' which is pretty strong wording that seems to negate all possibility of further revelation beyond the NT) with its own broad cosmology with a lot of ideas about god and the universe which most christians find bizarre if not outright heretical. Catholics are the single biggest christian denomination with (I believe) over one BILLION members worldwide, but due to a split in the 1500s started by Martin Luther (Lutherans are named after him and follow many of his doctrines despite him having stated a preference for his books to be burned after his death and not wanting people to follow him over Jesus) many Christians broke off from the Catholic church and are now referred to as Protestants. Many protestants don't view catholics as being true believers, and until the recent council of Vatican 2 it was explicit catholic doctrine that protestants aren't saved either. East Orthodox are their own thing which broke off from Catholicism about a thousand years before the Lutherans did; most of them are in Russia and hardly anyone seems to know what they believe on the rare times they're mentioned at all. Pentecostals are a subbranch of protestants with a strong emphasis on the "gifts of the holy spirit" which is pretty much christians LARPing as having the force or superpowers; outside of pentacostalism the belief is referred to as 'charismaticism' and is mostly unpopular except my parents were in a very small minority of charismatic Lutherans and so I pretty much grew up in a house where (looking back on it with a little bit more perspective) my parents were casting spells and believed in a literal form of magic even if they would never describe it as such. Anyway, anabaptists are a subbranch of baptists which are a subbranch of protestants and have a heavy emphasis on free will plus being naturally suspicious of anything that smells remotely catholic. Some Lutherans tried to keep a lot of aspects of catholicism, as Luther's original wish was to reform the Catholic church rather than separating from it. The majority of the Lutheran church in america is under the ELCA which is very liberal and is viewed by conservative Lutherans such as the LCMS as not christian at all due to no longer adhering to the bible being divinely inspired and free of error. Trinitarian christians definitely "won" the council of Nicea, as demonstrated by the Nicean Creed being one of the three main creeds of the church and based on a Trinitarian structure starting with the Father, continuing with the Son and then ending with the Holy Spirit. There are some non-trinitarian denominations still in existence, (so-called 'oneness pentecostals' being a great examples, believing in a fundamental union of divine attributes) but they tend toward the fringes- viewing and being viewed by other sects as heretical due to differing on the intrinsic nature of god. Non-trinitarians believe trinitarians are worshiping two false gods in the son and holy spirit, and trinitarians believe that non-trinitarians aren't worshiping god at all when they deny the trinity. tl;dr a lot of the denominations think they're the 'only true believers' and that god's going to burn everyone else in hellfire, even other christians. It's pretty fucked up. While I can still recite a whole lot of completely useless facts on the matter, I'm deeply relieved to have gone agnostic in my mid 20s and no longer have to worry about any of that stuff. Lutheran Christianity did absolutely nothing to give me peace of mind and actually led to a lot of mental complexes and traumas which I'm still getting over to this day. Hopefully someone found something of value in this, or at least found it mildly amusing. Peace!

It's more complicated then you probably recognize. Even domains have larger classification, and they basically just denote whether or not the specimen is Eukaryotic or not. They are also called Realms in virology. Then there are superclasses, which are almost as important as kingdom in some instances, and about a hundred different kinds of orders. Basically taxonomy hard, don't be so hard on yourself, you did great!
