I wonder if NL would like to get into bowling, since he definitely can get classes/lessons 6-9pm, league, tournaments. My parents used to play league bowling at a fairly competitive level with 5 kids about 15 years ago, when they were in enough shape. Even if you're not great, it can be fun just to bowl with friends and meet new people. Also, it isn't all that expensive, even if you decide to get your own gear. Especially compared to golf. Tennis and other racquet sports are also pretty fun. I do both.

The juxtaposition between things like the Rotary Club or Knights of Columbus or something simultaneously making their organizations as unappealing as possible for new younger members to join, and then asking "hey we need new members we're dying, please help" is hilarious. My Dad used to be a chairman of his local chapter of the Knights of Columbus back in the 90s, when he was a working man in his 40s, and the meetings would be held at like 7:30pm on a Wednesday. He left at some point in the 2000s, and now the organization is DESPERATELY trying to get young recruits, despite basically only selling life insurance to members (which makes it feel like a scam to people who aren't stupid) and holding their meetings at times when those young men are working. Adapt or die.
