Glad NL is staying strong about Midnight Suns, I played it on launch and it was frustrating seeing people ignore (or be ignorantly haterish towards) one of Firaxis' best games for so long

To be fair, the marketing for the game *was* genuinely horrible. They tried really hard to appeal to the more casual Marvel audience, and in so doing failed to really show off its strengths as a strategy game. Had they instead marketed it towards the xcom (or similar) crowd it would have done a lot better. So many games get released nowadays, that how a game is marketed can make or break its general perception. NL may have tried to discredit this, but its true.

To be fair, Midnight Suns was genuinely marketed terribly. They tried way too hard to appeal to the more casual Marvel audience and ended up missing the mark with most Turn-Based Strategy enjoyers. I wouldn't have given it a shot if one of my friends, who also enjoyed Xcom, told me to give it a shot. A game being reviewed well doesn't factor in much unless the review comes from a source you trust. Especially anything with the kind of money behind it that Marvel games do. Hence why so many of their games get reviewed well but are bland slopfests. And advertising doesn't do as well as NL seems to think, most people learn to tune billboards, and other ads out. Adblock is just a way of doing that digitally, many games do incredibly well despite people using adblocks.

I believe it was liked for its mechanics, but the writing and voice acting were very, very bad. That's the part I couldn't get passed. It being a story-driven game and all, I found that important. Of course, everyone has their own taste in writing. Some people found it serviceable, while I even managed to find one person that said it was good. I absolutely love NL content, but I couldn't watch a lot of Midnight Suns without the volume being just loud enough to only hear him. If you're not bothered by that, or even feel like skipping it to get to the combat, why not give it a shot? NL played through like, all of it, so that's gotta count for something, right? Bro uses that as an example of why he doesn't play story games, because people didn't really watch it. I'm like, brother, that is nowhere close to fair.
