Another great video, reminds me of similar spring trips in the Tobeatic and Medway wilderness areas. Loved the geology lesson- I live on a drumlin, many of the older houses around here were located on them. As for the widow maker, might have been safer to use a long rope and shake the tree from 10 or more feet away, stand behind another( healthy )tree.cheers.

Here on the coast of Maine, just off New Brunswick most of our rivers and streams have a good drop some class 5 most heavy 3 or 4 and are not passable in canoe, just as they hit tidal water, I waiting to see if you encounter the same drop at tidal water. Love the geology talk, have you listened to Kosmographia with Randal Carlson? He has a whole podcast, video on Drumlins. .Yeah, similar river situation, that sweet river may be a bit more ledgey than what we have. Black flies are just out here, well they've been out for a week. Nice trout!

BTW the quartz is deposited from hydrothermal fluids not geothermal fluids. Slight difference.

It is not my intent to point people in the direction of a specific spot, rather promote Nova Scotia as a whole for it's beauty and diversity.

Interesting video Noah. Though it's obvious in hind sight, I never thought why you're many rivers aren't navigable. Also I LOVE the rid bits you give about glacial activity. I mean our whole country, from the Great Lakes, to small, low hills in our back yards are because of those things coming and going away. Is there any good in those quartz seams?

Thanks Jim, hydrothermal fluid can not only precipitate quartz but also gold, so if you find high-quality quartz veins there is a possibility of gold. A lot of mining companies will investigate large thrust faults that have complex vein networks as indicators of this. Red Lake, Ontario is a great example.

Gravity filters are great because of volume and because you can filter water passively while you do other things. I also use the tablets but I'm not a fan of the chemicals.

In Nova Scotia we have black bears which are generally skittish around humans. I've never had any issues with them.
