I can’t believe he pulled out the Don Blackman album, great choice with those deep cuts my brother! That’s also one of my favorite albums, definitely a top 10! As a fellow musician I completely understand what you mean when you say that an albums helped change your life, Don Blackman inadvertently helped shape my life as well & I’m very sorry to hear he passed. If I was featured on RML, I probably would have pulled out that Blackman album but I’d also have to say Christian Gaubert’s “Running Wave” (1979) It’s definitely a super hot & funky album!

Well, I knew this was some sort of inside the band joke about Kassav. I checked them out and it turns out I like them, I already like world music so it isn't much of a surprise. I still think they are joking about how good they are and how it changed his life, but I am downloading some. They are from the 80's and have an Islands/West African sound, remind me a lot of Majek Fashek but much more up beat.

@@TheFrederic888have you ever heard a song of that band played on a regular basis on . French Mainstream radio stations (rfm,nostalgie ,France inter, rtl rmc,europe 1..) ? Nope ..have you ever seen them regularly invited or interviewed on french tv ..Nope .after having performed sold out gigs at big paris arenas (zenith, bercy) through 2 decades, They were the first French band to fill stade de france (2009)..this has been blatantly ignored.and the latter even wrongly awarded to indochine in 2010. Anyway they don't need that. As they have more than proven themselves where things really matter : on thousands stages around the world entertaining millions devoted fans.
@TheFrederic8884 жыл бұрын
astro farhi I mean I am pretty familiar with their kind of music, though I am never been especially interested in their songs. That fits the definition of mainstream I guess. Kolé Séré was a massive hit. I am sure having seen them on multiple tv shows back in the time.
@cosmojairzinho144 жыл бұрын
@@TheFrederic888 kole sere is not a kassav song . It initially appeared on jocelyne beroard 1986 first solo album which airing was limited to french Caribbean islands and diaspora. The massive hit You mentioned , happened Only because Philippe lavil decided to make a cover in 1988. His established name , his strong connections in the music business , the fact that he sung his solo part in french made the huge difference . Interesting how only that song coming straight to your mind talkin about kassav although it s not theirs. Good proof they not mainstream as far as france main territory is concerned. in Martinique, and Guadeloupe you do have a point ..they are Mainstream as zouk has been the relentless and dictatorial dominant music all over those places for decades ..I remember getting death threats while hosting a weekly 2hours rock program on a radio station in fort de france .
