Every time the verse and chorus repeat (echo) they get heavier. Kinda like how people in an echo chamber wind themselves up to the boiling point.
@GreyhandLion3 жыл бұрын
So the lyrics to me speak about Marcus's struggle against "Old Northlane" fans, or at least how the listening public only takes what he can create and perceives him as a person based only on his creations. In this instance the public forum/social media being the "echo chamber", the "free mind of a stranger" being the freedom of speech the public use to judge his creations, which is hard to listen to because of how personal the songs are to him - and how he feels like "turning it off" or "going deaf" and hoping he can learn to ignore it. I may be off the mark totally but Marcus, Jon, Josh, Nic: I love you guys
@jetspope3 жыл бұрын
That may be a small part of it, but I am pretty sure this is just about outside opinion in general. Like turn off the social media, believe in yourself, don't compare yourself to others/let others judging you get to you so bad in the echo chamber that is the world we live in. That's what I got from it.
@irrelevantfish19783 жыл бұрын
I think it's more general than just fighting the expectations of older fans. "Echo chamber" is used to describe how groups can become increasingly irrational and extreme in their beliefs when outside perspectives are excluded. For artists, it's easy to get sucked into one echo chamber or another and have its "white noise poison all your [creative] choices." Avoiding all outside opinion ("turning it off / taking a break", "when nobody is watching") can turn the artists themselves into an echo chamber, leading to artistic stagnation ("making the same mistakes"). The only way to avoid that is to find "the free mind of a stranger" to point out where you've gone wrong and how you might improve, but that can lead to getting lost in an even larger echo chamber, one occupied by far too many strangers who forgot about decency and compassion before clicking the "reply" button (a crime almost all of us commit sometimes). It's all too easy to be a fan for whom "the only thing that matters is what [the artist] can create" and not care that the views expressed "cuts you deep." Cleverly, the same line accusing fans and critics of callousness is used at the end as encouragement to artists. Criticism might "sear the tether to your brain," what others think doesn't matter unless it helps you improve the only thing that does: what you can create.

There's still some parts of "Old Northlane" that i prefered. But i'm a deathcore boi, naturally im going to gravitate towards heavier music. The people who get all cringe about it are gronks. New Northlane is dope and they are achieving a sound that no one else really pulls off like they do IMO. There hasent been a song ive actually disliked since Marcus joined the band, sometimes they take a while to grow on me but they always do. Clockwork was one that took a couple of listen-throughs.

Check out bad omens, noah sebastian has got an amazing voice and he is absolutely pristine live, A lot of people say this but i geniunely think he's better live. He has also got an incredible range, check out dethrone then check out careful what you wish for, there's live performances from 7 months ago if you look up the song title and put live beside it, there's no audio and professional recording equipment so you get to hear exactly how he sounds live and it's killer. His only weakness is his lyrics, they are good but he repeats the same lyrics over and over again for each song but they only formed in 2015 so he'll get better with time. With a bit of guidance i think he can go down as one of the metal greats for sure.

There's a lot to be said for a band that isn't going to rest on their laurels, especially given the last period we've all been going through. It's been financially fraught, uncertain and challenging, especially for musicians, and instead of going the safe route and turning out Alien 2.0, or going back to Node or Mesmer, still the band is pushing themselves, changing course, forging new ground. The album title and cover are just epic. Obsidian is the result of tremendous pressure, and this album, undoubtedly, will reflect that, and it will be a journey. I'm so here for it. April feels like a looooooong %^£#ing way away now.

Marcus's vocals are some of the best in the game, honestly gives me goosebumps. The entire group just continues to evolve their sound with each album and they should stand as an example of how bands can continue growing their sound whilst maintaining their roots. One of the best bands I've ever seen live. Just a meticulous, almost robotic like performance from a playing perspective, but mixed with an emotional and visual spectacle a lot of bands can't match.
