Travis Tourere I think the main parallel is the clean vocals which do seem to have a tone reminiscent of Chino, especially the softer parts, the chord work on the guitars also does give a similar feel although i'd say that Northlane have always had more interesting chord choices than most current bands anyway. That said I don't think that the heavier riffs really carry much of a Deftones feel, and the drumming certainly doesn't. All in all, definitely some influence in there, but saying that I don't think there are many modern heavy bands that don't draw some small influence from Deftones.

I know bands change, and evolve, and improve. I've been a NL fan from before Discoveries, and back then, with Adrian, they stood out. Now, Marcus' vocals just lay there with no intensity. Maybe if you're into that it's good, I dunno. Even his screams are boring. I'd still be happy even if Node was instrumental. Kind of a Polyphia feel. Anyways, just my two-cents.

Brian Amato You do realize that ever since Singularity, Adrian was starting to lose his voice and had to change his vocal style to accommodate. Marcus has much better cleans than Adrian. On the screams side, I agree with you but only for pre-Singularity, his screams were boring on it. Anyway, it doesn't seem like it's only Adrian who was starting to lose it. This song is much better than the other ones but it's far less thought-through than their past records, they seem to downgrade on each album, this is very chuggy, plus the guitar tone's sorta meh. I'm not trying to bash Northlane, they're great dudes, it's only an observation. They also didn't seem really happy/enthusiastic in the studio updates videos.

But now that I've heard some more from them, and am beginning to see the direction they're taking, I realise that they're so much better now with Marcus than they ever were with Adrian. (Don't come at me with fangirl rubbish). I appreciate what Adrian did with the band, and obviously there wouldn't be a Marcus in Northlane if Adrian hadn't left, however, I feel Marcus just suits them so much better. The lyrics might be simple, but the message is powerful. This is amazing work from this band. So much improvement here. (In my opinion, of course.

Lets not forget there are 4 other band members who havent changed?? Like why do some people think it revolves around the vocalist? The 4 others changed the band as much if not more than than marcus has. So dont go blaming/hating the new guy if there is a change in their music style.. How often does a great band make a new album which sounds the same as the old albums? Considering all they have been through i think this sounds like a fantastic album and still lives up to northlanes' general message about our planet throughout nearly all of their albums.
@KingLightDividing9 жыл бұрын
If you think these lyrics are "random", by which I guess you might mean that they are just kind of thrown together, then consider how each line plays into the next, and how the vocabulary of the first two lines, with the water imagery, is tied to the third line, which mentions plastic oceans. Then you read "plastic FARMS". Then look at lines four and five, how they mention land phenomena (footprints, soil). Farms are traditionally on land. Also, think of how "sole" and "soul" are homonyms, and how you use your "sole" to make a "footprint". Lines seven and eight tie back to the previous mention of pipelines by mentioning oil and its disastrous effects on the land and sea. The metaphor of a "bandaid on a broken arm" is tied to the image of oil by use of the word "bleeding", since, after all, a band-aid is often what we use to stop bleeding. Later on in the song, in lines fifteen and sixteen, we see this footprint and bandaid lyric repeated, and then the image of cancerous lifeblood is introduced, which might be to say that our civilization's "lifeblood", which is currently oil, actually ends up being cancerous and destructive in the end. Right after these lines it says, "So silently it grew." Well, cancer has a tendency to sneak up on people. It grows silently, kind of like ignorance. The rest of lyrics have the same kind of coherence if you pay enough attention, but if you still think this is random and that the ideas aren't really flowing or portraying a coherent message for the listener, I think that's probably ok too, and maybe even Northlane would agree that everything, at a certain level of reality is "random", in "quantum flux" if you will. ;)

Great song, great message. The Australian government is a fucking joke at the moment, our country's leader saying wind turbines are an 'eyesore'. Nothing will be done until the people understand that this shit is really happening in these years, and our children will have to live with the repercussions of a wasteful generation. The music industry getting behind issues like this, such as Parkway Drive with Dark Days, sends the message to a different audience. Can't support you more Northlane, love your work.

Haha bro, just stupid shit, racism between black and white is so overboard its ridiculous, electricity blackouts nearly every night because the government cant manage one nuclear generator, physical fights in parliament, our government steals money from us on a million rand basis daily and our own president has absolutely Zero qualification, like ...no highschool.

The prog-metal and underground rap scene are probably the biggest influences for revolution right now on people in the west/EU and in countries like Australia. This song hit me because I live in BC and right now there are hundreds of forest fires happening all at once. You can feel it so close. The trees dying at such a fast rate. Everything really is connected on a quantum level, and the more we realize that, the more it becomes clear that earth has been a ritual sacrifice farm for a long, long time... There's so much more to everything than what meets your two optical eyes...

It does. Nobody took this message as seriously as today back in 2015. Ironic and amazing how "visionary" this song seems.
