NORTHSEAKAYAK - Schipgat III

Schipgat is located in between the coastal villages Koksijde and Oostduinkerke. It is surrounded by the Schipgat nature reserve which exists out of active sand dunes and the adjacent beach. There is no sea wall, no beach heads, and no breakwaters which makes it perfect to us. When there is a bit of wind, coming from the North, to North West, it is the ideal play spot. You’re not going to find the perfect swell like along ocean beaches; we’re still talking about the North Sea. The North Sea is known for its choppy conditions and irregular waves. We like to call this spot our home, our anchorage, our playing ground.

Ciao Dimitri , Reviewing this great video, I noticed that sometimes the skeg is completely outside, at other times it is completely inside. The situations seem similar to me, why this difference? Do you have any advice on using the skeg in surfing? I generally use a small portion. I follow you with interest and every now and then I review your videos when I want to deepen a topic.

Hi! Well noticed! However, when it is completely deployed in this video: it is uninteded!😁 Sometimes, when it is really rough, I touch the button. Normally I don't use the skeg at all during surfing with a sea kayak. Gives more manouvrability .🌊💪😊

Woooow, some amazing surfing and camera shoots, I'm curious do you get any muscle strains or sprains or other injuries as that looks pretty extreme? do you know why there is so much foam on the beach 😏

Hi there! Thanks for watching! Over here there is no use of wearing a helmet. We do wear one when we surf close against rocks, or when it gets crowded. No rocks over here... But I can understand your reaction of course. Cheers, Dimitri

Hi Vince, We paddle the whole year, during this session there was a force 5-6 wind, air temperature about 12°C, and water temperature 11°C. Almost summer! :-D Cheers, Dimitri
