i would not consume a diet of potatoes... the night shade, although harmless, will build up within the body over time. try eating unbleached pasta and whole grain breads. Also nice, green leafy things. there are plenty in the wild.

But when times are hard potato on its own will keep you alive as there are many ways to make a meal from potatoes and little else. Potatoes rule. Modern meals are less than nutritious as nothing in them is natural even the potatoes.

BuckGreywolfe Use one of those huge flat rocks as a griddle to cook the egg, or make a cup from leaves or a green reed cook the potato in just like the potato, or fill a hole/container of some kind with water and heat stones in the fire to put in the water to bring it to boiling and poach the egg in the boiling water, etc etc etc. In other words you are better off using the potato as FOOD rather than as a container. HOWEVER, at home in your kitchen using your oven this could be a base for some interesting recipes. Bacon n eggs in a baked potato maybe :D

As many comments as I see below questioning/stating how is this related to survival (and I understand the author already states it's not a survival video), I can actually see some survival benefits to it. With the addition of foil, you could cook up 3-6 of these, wrap them, and keep them close to your core for added warmth (every bit helps) and calories while traveling. No need to boil water, a days food in 20 min of prep, obviously going to munch the raw potato leftovers as well etc etc. Survival is all about thinking outside the box, and getting the most out of every asset you have or forage across....

I never thought about cooking an egg in a potato, but that's probably because it's very impractical and a waste of a potato. And really, how often are you going to be in a situation where you have no utensils, but have a means to start a fire and somehow have a fresh egg and potato? yeah,nice.. but in Italy when we want to cook an egg, we use a room in the house we call kitchen, and we use an object burns gas we call gas cooker, and we don't use a potato but we use a metal object we call pot... is much better and in 5 minutes you can eat...

Not so fast. That stone would actually be a poor choice, because of its size it would take a giant fire to heat up. You need a decent-sized fire even for smaller stones, much less boulders. In this instance, it makes more sense to use the potato. If you're going to build a large enough fire, you might as well bring some meat and cooking implements too. But no reason to build such a large fire for just a potato and an egg. Silly.

By the time you're getting hot cooking rocks involved, you're no longer saving time, and you might as well bring a steak and some drinks too. That's my point.
