Scott, I had a similar experience with a John Deere mower throwing and shredding belts, they are an odd size so could only use JD replacements which were damned expensive, like you I checked the pulleys gears etc everything seemed fine. After shredding two lots I went to collect more belts and went into the dealership workshop and found a fitter who had been there for years and told him the problem, he suggested cleaning right into the pulley groove with a piece of hacksaw blade - this removed a compacted ring of grass like hard cord, then finish with a light spray of WD40 into the pulley, I really doubted the WD40 thinking it would cause the belt to slip, however 4 years later everything is still trouble free
@NorthTexasHay6 жыл бұрын
I didn't see anything like that but I will check, thank you for the info
@fuzzb44196 жыл бұрын
I had the same problem with belts jumping off my discbine also.....after buying belts every year I made guides that the belts ran through on the long side without the tensioner. These guides keep the belts from bouncing when you maybe hit a mole hill or anything. Since I did that I haven't replaced a belt in years.

Hey Scott I just found your chanel, your making some premium coastal hay I'm impressed. But those New Holland cutters are junk, we run Kuhn behind tractors and a Massy self-propelled. Also we're on our first year with a Bale Baron, you would totally love it for your operation.
@NorthTexasHay6 жыл бұрын
I've looked into the Barron but that would force me to rake separately and I don't think I could make a 34 inch bale weigh 60 pounds of coastal. I'm going to get a windrower this winter or a JD 5125r

Hi, I have a couple of questions, How long have you been hay farming? How do you market your hay for sale? And what did you spray for 2 weeks ago? We have been watching your videos for a while and thoroughly enjoy and learn from them. We are in Georgia and are in our second year of a start up hay business. All suggestions are welcomed. Have a great visit with Grandbaby!! Connie

Good video , Just wondering since you have some horses if you ever make compost and compost tea to spread on the hay fields .It might make for some good videos if you do some tests for us to see if it works and how well it worked or didn't . Was it even worth it. Just a thought . Thanks

I've made compost tea in the past but didn't get the results I needed for all the work it took.

Great update you two, question tho, why do you have that adapter on a tractor with 3pt hitch to pull the disc mower and as far as throwing belts... if your drives are all good it is normally the tensioner flexing and throwing the belt of the groove. have a nice cuddle in FL
@NorthTexasHay6 жыл бұрын
The adapter is for moving my trailers
@piperdoug4286 жыл бұрын
oh no sorry Scott, i meant the thing that pulls the little disc mower that the tractor hitches to, those mowers normally mount right to yer 3pt.

HI scott I've been wondering for a while but why don't you use a bale stacking wagon instead of what you have now??

It's the cleanest fastest way to use the claw in my opinion, unless you're using the Barron or bandit

Scott, check vbeltsupply.com for all your belts, they are very competitively priced. You should be able to find a number on all your belts, of course you probably knew this. Have a great day.

I didn't know. I guess I always figured they were new holland only items. Thanks for that link and I will definitely look for belts there.

Scott, If you ever want to upgrade to something that still lays the hay flat my family has been making these for about 10 years now. koschco.com/products/double-disc-mower/They sell a lot of them up in the Nebraska sandhills for the heavy meadow bottoms. Nothing worse than when the cutter is broke.Did you ever ck into getting the spring to float on your back up mower?I sent you the video from one lonely farmer expanding it.

So finally I got to see 'our' accumulator modification at work. Dropped you an e-amail a while ago with the question if the accumulator worked better this year with the press wheels but never got an answer. Thought it might work not so good for you, or you didn't want to admit it to the farmer north of the border who just wanted to help you out......
@NorthTexasHay6 жыл бұрын
I missed the email, I'm sure I deleted it more than likely. It works perfectly, we haven't had a bale get stuck this year. I'll listen to anyone that has an idea no matter who they are or where they're from

North Texas Hay you like the jiggs or the costal better? Most people here in FL have costal but I have been looking into the Jiggs. I seem to be close to the Tif 85 just a smaller stem so it drys better.

Years ago when in High School I hauled a lot of hay....I still have nightmares....those were the only jobs for a kid back then.
