Great job on the series. I remember getting a private tour of Chipchase for our Boy Scout troop in the early 80’s. The old chap giving us the tour was the actual owner and he passed us all a 10p for our interest.

Hello Mr Imrye. I`ve just discovered your channel (and subscribed), and currently binge watching all of your videos. I have visited quite a few of the fantastic castles we have here in Northumberland, and thanks to you I will be visiting a lot more of them this year. There`s something special about being in a castle, you can feel the history in the atmosphere. I would like to thank you for the work you have put in to these films. They really are excellent, and have renewed my interest in our history. I would also like to say that i`m Northumberland born and bred, and my love of our history and heritage is due to a great teacher I had back in middle school in the early 80`s.

Would you be able to show us a video on history of Millom Castle?
@jonimrye57224 ай бұрын
Hi Janice, Millom is a bit far from my base in Newcastle. I might be able to do it one day as one of my new short "Discovery days out". Ive had many requests to film Cumbria over the years, but on an old age pension it is too far to afford the travelling. I appealed earlier in the year for people to help by donating to the channel to help fund these projects further afield. Only six people responded to that request and while I was very grateful for there contributions not enough people responded to make any difference. That means I am restricted to areas in the North East. However as I said it might be possible to do it sometime in the future. Thanks for watching, best wishes Jon

I'm a Godley from the US. The first recorded history of my name was in 1066 in the kingdom of Northumberland.

It's a shame that you can't get full access to the castles. The French have the annual Journee du Patrimoine, which provides access to countless privately owned chateaux. The Brits should do the same with their historic properties. Anyway, I really appreciate your work, especially because I helps me understand my ancestry.

Thanks for your comments Chris. I will say, Most of Britains castles are owned by National Trust English Heritage or Historic Scotland and they will let you in at a price, but strictly no filming especially if its for social media channels. I offered to pay a fee for access to Cragside Hall, which is National trust and they never replied to my request, but I know from others that they charge a fortune and ban the use for social media. I tried to get access to Chipchase castle which is a beauty and privately owned by a merchant banker in London. He said if I were doing it for the BBC he would consider it but it would cost me £5K per day. I am not receiving any remuneration for this at all, it is all done at my own expense, so no way I can afford entrance fees. I struggle to pay the diesel bills just travelling around to do the filming only being on a pension. Many thanks for your support Jon
