No idea. I do know that one guy was not happy. He sent me working card that he assumed to be dead. I had it tested, sent it back and charged him a diagnostic fee. A couple of months later he demanded a refund. Not sure what for.

I can pull an engine apart and rebuild it without a ounce of stress, but damn I get shivers just thinking how it must feel to grind through a PCB to fix the layers one by one and that one bad move can mean the end, that's just impressive, first time I ever seen someone fixing a multi layer pcb was this guy right here

i cant even fathom the precision and perseverance you have. Grinding down the layers and reattaching the traces. Those wires are like hair, i couldnt even get ahold of one with my tweezers.

I've seen this high resistance behavior quite a bit with low voltage fuses, resistors, traces, etc. When a fault happens there isn't an arc formed and instead of going full open circuit you get high resistance. My guess is PCB layers shorted in the crack and caused the trace to act as a fuse on an internal layer ending up with the wack resistance. As always great repair and thanks for sharing 👍

Dumb question are the layers sightly different in color which helps to determine which layer the trace in on? you could have a video just on trace repair. Thanks Great video!

What if you cut off part of the hook that doesn't carry any inportant signals, and tell the customer they must get a support bracket? That might fix concerns about future reliability and warn people it was repaired?

My card came with a bracket, but I still mounted it vertically with a riser and used the bracket to keep it from moving at all.

They don't come with risers, risers for vertical block all slots of the mobo in 99% of towers. They also don't come with anti-sag bracketry and the manufactures install procedure is normal horizontal procedure. How bout we stop blaming the end-user and just require better design and thicker pcbs, or stronger pcb materials on a 100lbs card

@@LiveType The pci-e slot and connector were NEVER designed nor engineered to have those masses hanging on them It was made over a couple of decades ago, when expansion cards were barely a few hundred grams of heft And yes, the high-tech prop-stick (or vert mount) is inconvenient/ unusable if you have something else in your pc except the GPU; like a 2nd, 3rd, 4th expansion card, maybe a hdd array, etc.

There can be a 0 ohm resistor in series for the 3.3V line acting like a fuse and it could be burned giving the increased resistance. Too common issue.
