Nice camper, but why did you chose a short bed model?
@TheOxandTheFox11 ай бұрын
The short bed comes with an onboard generator. The long bed did not. For our needs and Boondocking purposes, we chose the short bed because the generator was more important for us versus the wet dry bath that comes in the long bed version.

The new quiet generator. Please tell. How do you like it? Is it quiet and any vibration? I would like to get a older 865 for the savings but that new generator could be a game changer. How much Solar do you have? Does it just charge the battery or do you have any dedicated outlets? Thank you
@TheOxandTheFox10 ай бұрын
I like the generator pretty good, it’s relatively quiet, however I will have to admit we have not used it very often. I have not noticed a lot of vibration while using it. We have 220 watts of Solar but we still have the lead acid batteries from the factory, it runs everything except the A/C and the Microwave. The max air fan keeps it cool enough not to use the A/C. The microwave is really the only time we use the generator when we aren’t hooked to shore power. The solar charges the batteries and runs all the usb plugs but none of the 110 outlets. The generator will power everything though. I hope that helps.

Since you have a 8’ truck bed what made you decide for the short bed 865 and not the long bed?
@TheOxandTheFox10 ай бұрын
I had a 2015 Ford F250 short bed single rear wheel truck when I purchased the camper, but after purchasing and actually using the camper, I quickly realized that I was way over weight on the GVWR, and I’m not a stickler on this but the GVWR for the F250 was 10,000 lbs the weight of the truck and camper loaded was about 12,500 lbs. So I went on the search for a F350 Dual Rear Wheel, and truthfully I just couldn’t find a short bed dually that I liked, so I purchased the long bed and that short bed camper sets with the center of gravity in the same spot over the rear axle as it did in the short bed 250, so I built a box for storage in that space between the camper and the cab of the truck.

Nice video. Is it doable for a modern 3/4 ton truck ? I have a 2500 2024 GMC with a 3500 lb payload capacity, SRW obiviously.
@TheOxandTheFox7 ай бұрын
I originally purchased this camper for a Ford F-250 SRW, it was doable as far as the truck had plenty of power to haul the camper, I had air bags on it as well, and the SRW would have carried it, but my payload was like yours (I don’t remember the actual number) around 3,000 the camper sticker says it weighs 2,900 lbs. I just felt more comfortable upgrading to my 350 with more payload so I could add different things without worry. To answer your question it is doable but it’s going to quickly hit that payload capacity number.

None on the inside. I noticed that the low point drain for the cold water at the back of the camper was leaking so I replaced a section of it. How loud is the AC? We rented a travel trailer recently and it couldn't carry on a conversation with the AC on! Also I might have missed it but what does this TC weigh? Finally, when it rains, how much do you hear it on the roof? Thanks!
@TheOxandTheFox6 ай бұрын
@@mattwlane the AC is not as loud as some of the other campers I’ve had, but it is loud with it on. Luckily we use our max air fan mostly. In the summer we do use it. It’s not unbearable to talk over it but it is loud enough to have to. The dry weight sticker on the camper says 2,800 lbs, but that’s simply not accurate. With it loaded it’s closer to about 4,800 lbs. I weighed it empty when I purchased it and it weighed about 3,800 lbs. The rain is not that noticeable on the roof, however on the vent covers you can hear it but the insulation keeps it pretty quiet on the inside. I hope that helps some. If you’re looking at an Arctic Fox truck camper you won’t regret it, and we love the 865! We’ve owned a 37’ travel trailer, a Hideaway by Sunlight Truck Camper (very tight compared to the AF865), a Coleman Pop-up camper, and a 40’ Fifth Wheel and the build quality and insulation in the Arctic Fox is better than any we’ve had before.
