I am 67yo. My dad raced in Rhodesia. Raced Norton Manx, Norton Commando (650?), BSA IOM, Triumphs etc. He was a apprentice to Ray W Amm on the mines. I still have a book with Ray Amm signature in it. My dad knew Mike Hailwood, Jim Redman etc and used to tell me lots of stories. He passed 3 years ago this month. Taught me to ride in 1964 on a Triumph 200 Tiger Cub. He also did flat track (cinder track?) racing with an AJS i think it was. 2018 with the IOM TT i invited him to sit and watch with me. After a short while he got up and went outside for a smoke. I followed and asked if he didnt like the bikes. He said the one section where they were doing 80mph it was scary at that speed. To see the guys doing 200mph he said he could not breathe watching it. Said he could not imagine that course at the speeds the modern guys are riding at. I have had massively fast superbikes. My last was a modified Suzuki BKing that was GPSd at 316 kmh before the wind threatened to rip me off the top. He loved my bikes but never rode them. Ray Amm died on a factory Norton. My dad had great affection when speaking of him.

Great how NSU german engineering helped Norton to build a package that works still today, outside of a road. ;-) ;-) ;-) Great story. Great chap. Happy new Year. More of that. Thank you.
