Hi, I am Norwegian 🇧🇻 The singing in the beginning of the song is "kulokk", tradditionally how they called the cows to them in the contryside. The text is telling a 1000 year old folklore story about an evil stepmother cursing her stepdaugter to be a wolf alone in the forrest. And the only way she can break the curse is to drink her brothers blood. In the end she sees her stepmother in the forrest so she attacks and eats her. Turns out her stepmother was pregnant, leading her to drink her brothers blood and breaks the curse.

It's in one of our official versions of Norwegian (we have two), Nynorsk. It's closer to how most of Norway speaks than Bokmål, the version that is used the most.

The story is an old medieval scary fairytale (the lyrics were for the most part straight from a 1000 year old text but had to be rewritten slightly after the semi, as the broadcaster was worried about EBU rules), so it matches the staging really well.

I actually only heard a snippet of all the songs and so going in, it was first time really hearing any of the songs, Gåte gave me all the best of a song and a performance, so amazing!

I became a fan of Gåte back in 2004 and believe me- seeing them live for the first time was mindblowing! Her vocals just grabs your soul and transports you to a differnt world. Can't wait to see them live again in Oslo next month ❤

The beginning is an old recording of a traditional ku lokk by folksinger Marit Jensen Lillebuen. (Born in 1879) its a calling sound, that attracts the attention of people or animals. In that sense, luring is human-made sound to call the animal's attention, either in the form of the voice or an instrument. And that's what the vocalist in Gåte also does in the choruses, she doesn't just scream. The text is taken from an ancient Scandinavian medieval ballad, called "Møya i ulveham". The Norwegian story can be found in various versions, mainly from Telemark, Norway. Thats why they had to change some of the text before the mgp final😊

This band is really something else, love the traditional elements - and Gunnhilds voice is out of this world! Love the message about the fight agains oppression and the fight for freedom. The primal scream is for all of us, a big wake-up call!

They are serial award winners in Norway, probably our best and 2nd or 3rd (depending on who you ask) most successful rockband after Kaizers Orchestra and (maybe) tied with Madrugada. This is probably their 2nd best song since they started in the 00s. If you feel like you want more, listen to their first hit in Norway "Sjå Attende"
