Lovely! My children had a Christmas treasure hunt to find their presents. The night of the 24th, their grandmother and aunts would have dinner with us, stay over and after the children went to bed, we would drink, get a bit silly as we hid the presents and wrote out clues for the children to follow to find their presents. Then in the morning after the farm chores were done, our horses got warm beer with their feed, everyone would gather around the tree, the children would find the envelope containing their clues. One at a time they could go find the gift bring it back and open it. They are all grown now, but remember this fondly.

Thank you for the most warming and lovely video, I REALLY enjoyed it immensely. I have been to Norway 4 times, and each time, I found Norway, and it's people, the most fantastic, endearing, polite, and very relaxing I have quite experienced. May I add,..all those who never experienced a Norwegian Christmas time are in for a REAL treat, it is just like being in dream land walking around the small places and visiting the great views....MAGICAL!

Could you recommend a nice place to go where CHristmas feels like Christmas? I’d like to take my daughter there next year so she can experience a lovely Christmas.

Tusen takk! I am American Norwegian and I love learning about the culture through wonderful ideas like yours. I love hearing about the advent celebration. I did grow up with advent calendar and butter on my porridge. God jul!

Thank you so much! I have a friend in Norway and we’ve been keeping in touch on a daily basis. After I wished him a merry christ and happy holidays with a joke "Did Santa get you anything?" He replied back that Christmas was over and that he was surprised his American friend was celebrating. It was nothing too serious but he tried explaining the advent of Christmas in Norway. I was a little confused until I came upon your video. Thank you so much! That also explains the barn santa jokes he sends me. I think Christmas sounds much more fun in Norway. It has a pagan touch to it and I was never a big fan of the religious observing of it.....no offense to christians that do. But I’ve often thought the way in which Christmas is celebrated seemed more pagan than Christian in origin regarding the man in the big red hat waiting for his milk and cookies...or in Scandinavian tradition a bowl full of grøt. Thank you again!

There is so much things to do in Christmas time in Norway! There's not that much in Serbia, and there's not that much hype, because we celebrate Christmas in January. I'd love to get a chance to get Kinder calendar! Those are not a thing here and I LOVE Kinder.

When I was a kid, we belonged to the Scandinavian Club in the town where I grew up in Canada and I was the one holding the candle and then eventually I became the Lucia with the crown of candles on my head and ended up with candle wax all through my hair.

I'm very glad they changed it to electric candles!

I don't know the rules, but it's more complicated than just buying a home here...you have to apply for it.

@@RANDOMEDITSBYPG I don't think you'd need a full citizenship for that, but like I said, I'm not sure on the rules. You'll need to contact some higher authorities ^_^ Best of luck!

Hello! Thank you so Much! I enjoyed hearing you share about the things you do during the Christmas season, and many of them unique but you now need to go and ask your grandparents or your friends grandparents WHY certain things are done. I understand that many traditions are rooted in the church, and the whole aspect of Christmas of course is to recall and remember that our creator God came down to dwell amongst us. Christ Jesus was born because God himself planned it for our salvation. There is so much more. Such as advent is a time of preparation for the coming Savior. Please tell me your parents and grandparents told you about Jesus and why He had to come down to earth. ❤️🌲

Norwegian Christmas (or *Jul as we call it) is like the celebration of Yule as our viking ancestors did, not like your Christian holiday!
@kathrynplett83865 жыл бұрын
The Vikings did not yet know their origin.
@Tronderose5 жыл бұрын
@@kathrynplett8386 That's beside the point... It's a different celebration all together.

It would be good to know what the celebration is. To understand the true roots would give insight to the culture, and history. I have Viking ancestors according to some genealogy. All mankind searches to know where they came from, and their purpose. I believe the creator, has a created each person with a unique purpose in life.

@@kathrynplett8386 Claiming everyone searches to know where they came from is simply wrong. I've never done so myself.
