Norwegian FM justifies Palestinian state recognition amidst escalating violence

The governments of Ireland, Norway, and Spain have collectively announced their intention to formally recognise an independent Palestinian state from the 28th of this month, with Slovenia and Malta potentially joining the initiative. In an interview with Al Jazeera from Oslo, Norway's Foreign Minister, Espen Barth Eide, elucidated that the decision stemmed from a conviction that it was morally just, acknowledging the Palestinian people's right to self-determination. Eide underscored the absence of meaningful negotiations and the escalating violence in Israel, Gaza, and the West Bank as key factors influencing the decision. This recognition signifies a commitment to peaceful, nonviolent solutions and the two-state resolution, aligning with international partners and the Arab Peace Initiative. While symbolic, it forms part of a broader effort to address the protracted Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Norway acknowledges that recognition alone will not resolve complex issues such as borders, security, refugees, and Jerusalem's status. It forms part of a multifaceted approach that includes normalisation with Arab states, peace guarantees for Israel, and bolstering the Palestinian authority. Norway refrains from exporting weapons to Israel and advises against commercial dealings with occupied territories. While diplomatic responses, including potential sanctions from Israel, are anticipated, Norway remains dedicated to dialogue. The United States maintains that Palestinian statehood should be achieved through negotiations, a stance shared by Norway, albeit with the belief that recognition now rebalances negotiation positions. Ending the Gaza conflict necessitates immediate efforts towards a ceasefire and humanitarian relief, with recognition contributing to long-term political solutions.

Palestinian statehood will mean everything is done in a more formalised way, according to a specific set of laws. Without statehood there is no identity and no guiding principles to establish a sustainable society. People are being robbed of the type of livelihoods most on earth enjoy because of functioning systems. Excluding Palestine from world bodies places them in a state of uncontrolled chaos. Being born in Palestine isn't a crime so why must people be punished? Many will hang their heads in shame.

The discussion in this war is absurd. First. Israel acted selflessly to live in peace with the Palestinians in Gaza. It was more than a decade ago when Israel itself relocated thousands of individuals living in Gaza with lethal force from their homes to follow the agreement, which obligated the Palestinians in return to stop any kind of aggression towards Israel. The Palestinians had the chance to build a safe, functional, and prosperous livelihood. But the first thing the Palestinians did in return was to elect a government that enshrined the goal of destroying Israel in their constitution. The elected government followed through with its promise. Since its founding, thousands of rockets have flown into Israel. Dozens of civilians died in terrorist attacks. Millions of aid funds - intended for civilian purpose - were misused to build rockets, tunnels, and other nonsense. The crimes committed on October 7th like raping women, killing children, or kidnapping a baby, was Humus has been doing for years. Secondly. Israel behaved more humanely in this conflict than any other conceivable party in any imaginable conflict. It allowed Palestinians to work in Israel, receive medical care or even migrate into their country. During war, they warn civilians where their military is operating. They admit collateral damage and apologize for it. They saved Sinwar’s life giving him a lethal brain surgery. They treated the daughter of Haniyyas daughter for her complex disease in Israel. While Humus was building rockets and tunnels with all the foreign aid, Israel supplied their civilians with free water and electricity. The situation is clear. In no other conflict the responsibility for the suffering has been so one sided and clear - in no other conflict have the perpetrators been held accountable so weakly. People with voice and power who claim to reject war have the duty to unequivocally name the culprit of this war and do everything in their power to eliminate them. Everything else is responsibility for the resulting suffering and will extend it.

I am from eastern Europe and I remember my grandparents always saying: UK and USA two biggest evils on our planet. As a kid I did not understand the politics that much…They are not alive for long time now but I think about them and their words on a daily basis. When I was a kid they also talked to me a lot about previous massacres in Palestine starting 1948. I remember a horror in their eyes while watching the news about wars in the Middle East and them keep saying: This evilness would not be possible if the biggest evil USA would not exist. My dear grandparents, you should be happy that you are not alive anymore and you do not have to witness the biggest massacres and war crimes in the modern history. What we are witnessing now in the year of 2024 is beyond any horror we could possibly imagine. This causes pain to body and soul of every decent person in this world. And it is going for 8 months already. I pray for God every night to keep my mental health because it is so hard for normal people to cope with all this man made evilness. They have the politicians in their pockets, they seek more and more. Sick people, let free by a sick system that allows them to thrive. This needs to end, otherwise man kind is in jeoperdy, a world without rules is a jungle where no human development can thrive. Where destruction is the main word and the moral values of kindness are obliterated. We the common healthy minded people need a different way of rule. Peace and understanding, peace and cooperation, peace and the fufillment of human basic needs (something that even in the USA is lacking right now). Norway does not export weapons to Israel, but norwegian weapon company Nammo that is owned by Norway 51% do export weapons to Israel from US, if thats not doubble game I dont know what is. Norwegian oilfond is woth billions of dollars and is verry much invested in companies that are making money from same illegal settlers in the West Bank. and still no serius sanctions just sanctions to import wine from the illegal settlers. thats it.
