or like when you read to yourself: you only hear your own voice ;-) my issue is that this one narator is no good ;-( you can hear him breath, and occasionally even swalowing his saliva... and the editting is no better: many times the end of a sentance can be heard over the start of the next...

Thank you, arigato, xiexie! The reader (narrator is the "speaker" in a piece of literature) does a great job. The reading fails - with me - to recreate that certain fluidum of the novel - I did not get past the opening scene, mostly a narration of a remembered painful flashback, thus leading to the past of the past. Complaint to Murakami: He clearly shows that he hasn't been to Hamburg (Airport) - clouds seen from there are not "over the North Sea", as the disctance to the its shore from there exceeds 70 km - as the crow flies. Then why Hamburg? It might just signify a place with utterly no relation to the author's biography at all. But why "Hamburg, again?" I also doubt that there were ever scheduled flights of the Boeing 747 to Hamburg, especially WITH Lufthansa (what the German flight attendant more or less implies) before 2010 at all. (Intercontinental fligts usually connect to Frankfurt, Munich of Düsseldorf.) Also, the flight attendant's command of English OR the narrator's self's command of German is reallly very good, as "every once in a while" (marvellous language) is being said. Strange, while everything else which follows makte sense or in an enthralling way not, as Naoko's inner workings (her elder sister and - unrelated with the sidt- her boyfriend inciting her to suicide just by model and trauma?) Enigmatic. And why this specific Japanese occupation with SUICIDE? I have quite a couple of Japaneses novels circling around this topic. Ah... MISHIMA!
@dudeidontcare34303 жыл бұрын
>And why this specific Japanese occupation with SUICIDE? self-annihilation is such a deep and ancient part of the japanese mentality

Hamburg was a key destination in the early career of the Beatles (Norwegian wood…). But there are certainly no direct flights from Japan to Hamburg 😂
