A long overdue video of the now no longer sold URB-E Black Label vs a cheap Chinese knock-off called the FreeGo or TopMate or whatever other name it got depending on who rebadged it. This video shows that you get what you pay for.

There are much better options! Even the base model or used URB-E will make you much happier!

Great review, the URB-e is rock solid, no loose parts, can be used everyday without issues, and zero maintenance! I haven't tried going off a curb yet, maybe one of these days I will try it!

mechmove hey mech! ya, I've beat the life out of my classic and never had anything break. going off curbs is easy, just use those rear pegs to save your butt. going up curbs... now that's a future video!

Robert Guzman Congrats! The sport models are really cool in their design. Like the classic, they can be a bit rough on bad roads compared to the pro, but lots of fun either way!

Nice comparison video. Goes to show getting a cheap knockoff doesn't pay off. Urb-e FTW!

SYEP hey thanks! true true... i really tried to give the freego a shot, but from the moment i sat on it, i was let down, figuratively and literally. i hope to compare some more worthy opponents in the future.

While I've been patiently waiting for my Sport GT to arrive, I've been watching other videos that are in the same category as the Urb-e. If you're looking to compare, their are other brands such as 'Stigo' and 'Scoot-e-bike'. Scoot-e-bike I believe is owned by the singer Ray J. However both of these aren't US made.

SYEP Ya, stigo is Europe and scoot is Chinese import that also goes by many names. There is a variant available in store that I may pickup just for comparison. Stigo is probably the most interesting concept... I wonder if it's out yet... Xbird, xcooter are a couple others. I'd love to try them all but generally they are Chinese junk.

How can I change my Freego from 3 to 2 wheels? Its very inestable with 3 wheels. Im looking how can I change it.
@NoSURBE

It would be easier and safer to buy a used URB-E or other 2 wheel bike/scooter. Unless you have some decent fabrication at your disposal and you really love your freego.

Hey there! URB-E no longer sells consumer focused products, so you'll have to find one used on eBay, marketplace or the like.

URB-E had no competition there. I'd like to see a URB-E Pro GT and a X1 Bike go at it. I think that'd be an interesting match up.
@NoSURBE
@NoSURBE 7 жыл бұрын
Chris Gunn true that! I'll soon have a pro gt to start comparing against and plan to do more videos like this. the X1 is also the Xcooter, i think, again depends on which side of the Chinese factory it came out of. i think Casey had that one in his vlog... they made a bit of fun at it. looked heavy... company out of Florida imports them i think. the scoot-e-bike is the California version of Chinese knock offs. none of them match the build quality of the URB-E, but they'd be worth trying!
@chrisgunn4741
@chrisgunn4741 7 жыл бұрын
True, but the Xcooter brand is no longer. I talked to the X1 bike Company owner and he said the X1 Bike brand is the only US import of the ASKMY Chinese brand. The X1 Bike also seems to be a little faster at a top speed of 19 mph as opposed to the Xcooter's 17 mph. Check this link out, the X1 Bike is chinese, but it seems pretty solid. The company in Florida supposedly puts them together there. kzbin.info/www/bejne/eXKXg3yKbpyXrrc

Good to know... Hey sorry this comment was sitting in my approval queue (which I didn't know I even had... LOL). Ya, that is pretty cool video too, but the bike itself has some really weird ergonomics for riding position. Still would love to compare in a video though!

NoS URB-E Yeah, I'm gonna pass on getting one of those X1s. I like the frame of it, but it does need back pegs instead of foot pegs only on the front. I've read some reviews that it doesn't have the torque owners would like and also not as fast as they'd like it to go. Some of that might be due to the riders weight, but I'm not gonna take any chances. It's gonna be an URB-E Pro Gt or nothing. Well, unless URB-E comes up with something faster and then I'll probably buy one of those too, lol.

you hit that front wheel on big pothole you're dead..because weight of the battery & chassis will roll your head first....second the foot pedal....idk why its on the front of steering wheel..? not on the middle while there is one at the back but it still feels like your body position is not right
@NoSURBE
@NoSURBE 7 жыл бұрын
American Spirit ya, you really have to steer around potholes with either of these things, but at least with the URB-E you can stand up on the rear pegs and take bumps at the knees. the front pegs on the URB-E also let you steer with your feet, but freego doesn't. freego also has a front brake which for the weight reasons you stated is a bad idea! URB-E changed to rear brake early in their design. fortunately the drum brake on the freego doesn't work all that well and won't throw you over the bars. lol

The speed issues or quick turning have ZERO to do with the value of having just something to replace walking. The 10 Kilo heavier URB and the price tag of $230 vs. $1000...your right their is no comparison. Topmate wins easily. What you need to compare is duration on a full charge, and probably breaks. People don't buy these for tokyo drift bullshit. they buy it for mobility!
@NoSURBE
@NoSURBE 3 жыл бұрын
Mobility riders were the reason that URB-E gave up on the trike design. It's too dangerous and unstable, unpredictable. We have a bit of conversation about it on the forum. Front trikes are better, but have other issues. But hey, to each their own. I wasn't impressed with the quality or serviceability of the Topmate stuff.

maybe the Chinese an't better but I noticed the mud guard on the Chinese ..URB IS BEST 💯%👍
@NoSURBE
@NoSURBE 7 жыл бұрын
jim esson that little mud guard would barely do anything though. the ones i built for the classic urb-e or more recently for the pro would actually keep you clean. the original urb-e fenders were the best!

Actually it's not just a cheap knockoff. It's made for disabled people and intentionally has a Tricycle design with 2 wheels in back for stability. The urb e is A LOT easier to wreck on. People with disabilities and trouble walking are best to go with the Top Gear which is specially made for them. It's also made with a Key'd on off switch making it allowable on Planes unlike the Urb-E
@NoSURBE
@NoSURBE 4 жыл бұрын
The point of the video is to show how unstable and dangerous the rear trike design actually is. It is not wide enough compared to its center of gravity. On our forum we have partially disabled riders who prefer the URB-E to trikes for that reason. The note about the use on planes may also not be accurate as planes require you to remove the battery to take onboard while storing the bike below, like a wheel chair. URB-E btw, has a keyed removable battery. A trike design that works is one where the 2 wheels are in the front, but that complicates steering. I had an idea for a rear designed trike that might work, but never got to it. Plus, this unit that was tested was very poorly built. I could flex the aluminum with my hands.

@@NoSURBE Read reviews for the Topmate ES30 on amazon. It's mostly bought by people with disabilities. They even email out the battery documents you need to show the airline the UN38.3 form. It can be any size battery because it's not removable, and key locked. They also redesigned the back axel to be a bit wider and somewhat more stable. Now your right the Urb is MUCH better for enjoyment and its more maneuverable over all, but for people needing to go slower and take more careful turns, at least they don't have to maintain any regular balance like on a two wheel. Also the Topmate is about 1/3 the cost of the Urb. It's just different design for different people. I'd love to be healthy enough to ride the Urb E instead of a stupid training wheel design, but some people need that. I have MS and cant hardly work my left leg so falling to the left and I might fall right over on a two wheel. On 3 wheel I can too but not if I don't turn so sharp and maintain center gravity.

@@NoSURBE And Honestly I'd love to try eventually to practice with an Electric Unicycle. They seem to be the most efficient, well design, portable electric mobility devices available today but it takes a good couple hours to learn to ride them. I probably can't ride one, but I really want to try. They are so rad.
@NoSURBE
@NoSURBE 4 жыл бұрын
@@Wolfsheim23 I'm totally with you! It is hard to match the portability of these little things, that is what makes them so cool. I did read some of the more recent reviews of the ES30 and a couple stated that they were rejected by the airline. Could you explain the "keyed on/off" thing? From my understanding most (if not all) ebike batteries have a key to turn the battery on/off/lock. Every URB-E battery does too, but that isn't the concern. My understanding, besides a wattage limit, you have to be able to remove the battery and take it on board with you while the bike/wheel chair gets gate checked and put under the plane. I've never tried flying with the URB-E, have you flown with the Topmate? How'd it go?

Oh LOOK! Another version of the Scoot-E-Bike! WOW, its hard to keep track of how many companies are putting their own plastic on that frame, relabeling it and selling it as something new. Fry's and Bed Bath and Beyond even have a version I think. But they are big, heavy and poorly constructed. That opinion is only from hearing from other owners, so I was going to buy one from Fry's this weekend to do a comparison video with the URB-E Pro GT, but since I wouldn't be able to return it, I decided to bail on the idea for now. I definitely wouldn't want to keep the Scoot-E, DGL Hover 1, or whatever other version it comes in. Another big issue for me is the lack of customization of the steel frame covered in plastic.
