Well, the Apothecary is basically the Adeptus Astartes or space marine's combat and field medic. Having the gear, equipment and a few other things to treat the wounded. Whoever they're also responsible for watching and at times helping the implantation of the Gene-seed within a aspirant, they're limited to supportive and medical care roles. (They're surgeons and experienced medics as well.)

For the reason they are called the dark angels, you would have to look into the Horus heresy series. @@NosaJackson which faction. You got the Eldar, Dark Eldar, Tyranids, Orkz, Necrons, Tau, Chaos and all of it's factions, and then you got the Imperium of Man led by the God-Emperor of Mankind. Which has the Imperial Guard, Inquisition, Space Marines, Sisters of Battle, Mechanicus, Echlesiarchy(not sure how it's spelled), Imperial Navy, and a few other factions.

@@NosaJackson the Imperium of Man is a religious authoritarian state where everybody must worship the God-Emperor of Mankind. To be fair, doing so does kinda help keep the forces of Chaos from invading your mind, so not all bad. But just like every other faction, it is a pretty terrible place to live. The Imperium would gladly sacrifice and entire planet if it meant denying it to the enemy. And by sacrifice, I'm referring to Exterminatus where they bombard the planet from orbit and destroy it. Any hint of sedition will get someone to report you and then you will die, the Imperium is like, Oh no we lost an entire fleet in the warp(their version of faster then light travel and insanely dangerous), well too bad we only have another 100 rolling out of the shipyards. And same for their armies. They control most of the Milky Way galaxy, but are on the decline but have held on for over 10,000 years of everything else in the Galaxy trying to kill them. And with the return of the Primarchs, beings second only to the emperor himself, the Imperium might recover. There are a few videos I'd like to recommend to someone looking to find out about the Imperium, cause it is massive, convoluted, confusing, and insane. Literally insane. There is one planet that produces guardsmen and they are called The Death Korps of Krieg, because those people live to die. So they won't stop moving til their heads are gone.
