This seems like a faithful reimagining of Nosferatu. I always appreciated that the original film wanted to make Dracula a more grotesque creature. This appears to bring the horror.

Yes, this is a reenvisioning of Fritz Lang's silent film where he "scrubbed the serial numbers off" of Stoker's book - but there are innovations even in Lang's version and this sounds like it veers even more.

So I take it this is a strong recommend? I'm skipping the review because the comments hint that it spoils the movie, again. Eggers is always spot on. The Witch is one of my favorite horror movies ever, and I'm hoping for more of the same quality.

It is a 9/10. They don't spoil it, but Alan's summary is long and involved until Chris cuts him off.

I was a little concerned about the trailers as some of the footage does appear a little too CGI. However, I think watching it in full 4K or on a big screen from DSP might be a very different experience, we'll see. That said, I think it looks excellent in general and should be at least a solid entry into horror, and it could very well be a game changer along with 28 Years Later if it too delivers as I believe it could.

It looks too digital. I’ll see it when it comes out. If every horror scene has a ton of digital effects, I think the creators are too lazy.
@RabbiSteve12 күн бұрын
Whoa, is it? I didn’t notice the first time I watched the trailer. Eggers is so into practical effects and old film tech, I thought for sure he wouldn’t use much digital. If so, that’s disappointing. Yes, but the original was made to circumvent copyright on Dracula, renaming the character & film to avoid issues. AVGN / Cinemassacre did a good review of all the various Dracula adaptations & discussed how accurate they all were (hint : Francis Ford Coppola’s ranked high despite the fabricated love story).

@@williamerickson520 i meant in these reviews. Just state up front its the story of Dracula. The creator clearly want to remake the monster Nosferatu which is cool and is the only reason to actually make this movie with this title. But Dracula is now public domain. There are no copyright issues. The reviewers could be more concise with their reviews. Even Nosferatu is public domain now.
