i still think the solar-powered ones out in the freeways, especially in the middle of a desert, should be a thing regardless of cell phones. i was on edge when Sis got stranded in the middle of nowhere, in a high-summer desert, last year when her hybrid SUV broke down (she was making a delivery for a friend of ours via a rendezvous point, social-distancing and everything; two cute rabbits from our warren so said friend could have a pet to keep them company during lockdown).

better prank: sit on your front porch and when you see someone about to walk by, call the pay phone, watch what they do 😁.

I don't memorize phone numbers anymore so I'd have to look them up on my smartphone. I still remember phone numbers from the 60s/70s but those people have long since moved and many of the businesses no longer exist.

@@briandavis96 LOL! Sorry that I cried, or that I have a landline? I watch KZbin and cry about all kinds of things-- mostly cute puppies getting rescued, and weddings of people I don't know. Lately East Idaho News Secret Santa gifts. Now and then I binge on soldiers coming home and surprising everyone. I just love the nostalgia of your pay phone and the happiness it brings. Believe it or not You can skip the landline and go VOIP. I disconnected my landlines in 2010 but still use all wired phones, including rotary. Stupid ATT raised the phone bill to 44 dollars a month and I said good-bye!

I remember the day they removed the last payphone in my area. I was kind of sad. The end of an Era but I didn't realize how big this actually was. RIP privacy!

UV light kills germs. It's outside. So if the last person to use it was 15 minutes ago and it's in sunlight - the germs are dead. :)
