The really funny thing is that most sailors in the navy at the time actually couldn’t swim, it wasn’t something that was required.

ok, why did they join the navy? the navy is where you're on ships surrounded by water. doesn't that require you need to swim for dear life? the guys that can't swim that join the navy at the time are obviously friggin' morons. my late granddad is a korean war navyman and this michael bay film is still an insult to the dead navymen.

@Daniel Scott Swim where, pray tell? If a ship is sunk at sea, where were you going to swim to? The traditional purpose of sailors was to keep the ship afloat, not to keep themselves afloat. Oh it’s absolutely an insult to history, but this is one of the (almost certainly unintentional) tidbits which is technically accurate.

I'd be lying if i said i was not listening to Village People - In the Navy while reading this comment, Joining as a non-swimmer, they probably had life jackets, and life boats, They needed the man power, They probably did not have the recources and time to train everyone to swim, probably cut corners to meet man power. 🤔

Michael Bay isn't exactly the way Doug portrays him. Bay is really hot-tempered and emotional on his sets, usually pushing people around and blowing up at confrontations.

Unless you've already seen it, I'd recommend the video History Buffs - Tora! Tora! Tora! to see how well that movie portrayed the events of Pearl Harbor, which pretty much made this movie not even close to a competition.

4:20 watch From Here To Eternity. I almost got teary eyed in the end. Even when I saw the calendar say December 6th 1941 I felt like I was hoping for something happy to happen I know it’ll take a bleak turn.

Can't say much about Pearl Harbor myself, but I've got a video to add to your list, if you like: "The Bizarre Search For Cracks: Sesame Street's Lost Nightmarish Short" (by blameitonjorge) It's quite an interesting story, IMO. I followed it a bit when it was still going on.

the only two decent michael bay movies i like are the rock (1996) and the first transformers movie (2007). every other movie he did & else is pure shit.

@@MynameisCharlie i'll say this: well the japanese are not portrayed as racist stereotypes, the effects are cool and a decent dan akyroyd cameo, they're not enough to save this movie nor make it a good/decent movie. it's still a terrible bad movie and it will always be a bad movie in my bad movies list ever.

In my opinion, this was one of the last great NC episodes. After his salior moon review...i feel it just all went downhill. But thats just my opinion.
