14:32 - 14:53 😒🤦♂️How is Asha the hero again? She goes on about how no one person should be in charge of everyone's wishes, but she becomes exactly like Magnifico in the end, but less careful with who gets their wishes granted. What if she grants the wish of a total psychopath? Someone who wants to make a weapon of mass destruction, like the atom bomb? (From Pitch Meeting) Ryan George: "🤨No hypotheticals, please. 😅It's okay for her to do that *now* because Asha's the main character and Magnifico's the bad guy." 🙄😅🤷♂️Oh, I guess *you're right.*
@615randomgoat77 ай бұрын
It would have been nice had she not became a fairy godmother, but they wanted the reference. Asha's thing was that not only should someone not be in charge of deciding who's wishes gets granted. She had a point saying, if he wasn't going to grant them, then he should return them for the people to try to achieve them, themselves. Basically he's taking their dreams away from them. At leas tin Asha's world, the people still have their own wishes and can seek after them themselves without hoping for their wish to be granted and having no idea what it is they wanted to do.

Script aside, just talking about the animation here. Imagine if this movie was animated similar to how Netflix's "Klaus" was animated. All entirely 2D, but shaded and scaled in a way that made the 2D animation look like it had a 3D dimension to it.
@annika32657 ай бұрын
I've heard people saying we should be glad Disney at least tried something different but I hate that sentiment cause it's like we're supposed to be happy they gave us their bare minimum effort, my favorite video talking about the animation of this movie is from the channel No The Robot cause he's an actual animator and he goes over all the bad and even the good parts of this animation. It's really weird, when 3d began to dominate the market Disney scrambled to turn out more creative projects as an effort to stay relevant, we got movies like Atlantis, emperor's new groove, brother bear, Lilo and Stitch, but now when there more experimental movies coming out like the Spiderverse franchise and Klaus and even things like Mushka that was made by an actual ex-disney animator the best Disney themselves can do to compete with all that is Wish, it's so insulting when everyone else is working so hard and this is the best they can do.

My brother-in-law's girlfriend told me that she loved this movie. Why? Because the lead character was biracial, and one of the main supporting characters was disabled. That's it. For the diversity thing, like The Critic mentioned with Kim Possible: You make a character that’s something, not something that’s a character. @ARCtheCartoonMaster6 ай бұрын
Whoa whoa whoa... *what?* Okay, first of all, Doug was talking about *female* characters. I don't care what your woke intersectional Gender Studies professor told you - being female is *not the same as being a minority group.* Just because the woke leftists say women are a minority group, doesn't mean they're right. Second, the whole point of us writing female characters as... you know, normal characters, is because we want to write them as *not* just some token minority group. We want to show that women make up roughly half the population like men do, so there's nothing special about being a woman, and they're just regular people like men are. *Men are a gender as well,* in case you didn't realise, and you'd be surprised how much gender discrimination men face from men and women alike. When we say we want well written female characters, we actually *mean* it - we don't also want to bring POC and LGBT characters into it, because then we're just writing women as a token minority group again, so we're just left with the same problem that we started with. It's really frustrating that woke politics have now become so influential that they're even influencing how the anti-woke people think, and when you ask the anti-woke people why *they* adhere to the "women = minority" mindset, the response the usually give is, "Well, it's what the woke people believe!" But like... they're supposed to be *anti* woke, so they should be *opposing* the woke mindset, rather than perpetuating it. We should be *debunking* the myth that women are a minority group. The fact that you took what Doug said about female characters, and applied it to minority groups, shows that you *completely* missed the point of what he was saying, and that unlike Doug, you just view women as another token minority group, even when they're actually written as normal characters. You know, despite that men are a gender as well, and that the "token boy" trope is present in works of fiction that have a female protagonist, such as _Punky Brewster_ and _Hilda,_ to name examples, which have a *white female* protagonist with a *token black* friend and a *token male* friend. Or, you know, like _Kim Possible,_ which has token black friends of *both* genders. It sucks that I have to spell it out for you, but here we are - being a girl isn't the same as being black. Maybe go out and actually *meet* women sometime - you'll see that they're just normal people like you and me, and not just some diversity group that the woke left loves to push onto us.

@sebastianemond5313 now that just sounds cringy and corny. Added to that, I have never been a big fan of group singing of a notable song, and frankly "When You Wish Upon a Star" has lost its charm with the way Disney has had over-the-top arrangements of it, especially for their current film logo.
@sebastianemond53137 ай бұрын
@garrettbays6942 I do agree with you that Disney has lost their way, writing to please focus groups as opposed to writing from the heart, and just shilling out products to sell us on under the misguided hope that 'cause it's from Disney, we'll fall for it. But I still believe in what the song instills in fans rather than which fans it represents, like many social and political groups debate on with media.

This could work much better as a story from Magnifico's point of view. He's a tragic hero corrupted by dark magic while trying to save his kingdom, forever trapped in a mirror, while a young woman runs the kingdom he built into the ground as she has no idea how to handle granting wishes. Eventually, she turns to him in the mirror for help, setting him up at the magic mirror. Asha starts to lose it from the pressure, turning evil herself and leaving the kingdom to marry into another one, taking the mirror with her-surprise prequel. The seven dwarves are the descendants of her friends, living in the woods after the kingdom fell to ruin. I know it's a bit fanfictiony, but it's better than what it was. I'd love to see that movie. And regarding "This is the Thanks I Get," I know it's supposed to be his villain song, but it plays out more like a frustrated and egocentric hero who's done nothing but give to his community and is taken advantage of. People only respect his ability to grant their wishes, not him as a person. It feels much more like a tragic hero pushed to dark magic than a villain. But this does remind me of a light novel series I read. In it, a goddess wanted to give humanity a paradise, so she did. She created a world without illness, hunger, poverty, or dangers. But no matter what she gave humanity, they wanted more. She realized that without strife, humanity can't recognize paradise. They need to struggle to be happy. So she came up with a cycle: humanity is threatened, a hero rises up, and it repeats. They enjoy peace until it's threatened again. Humanity eventually rises up against her, wanting free will. The protagonist recognizes the goddess's genuine intent to help but acknowledges her mistake due to lack of guidance. They could have done something similar here, where Magnifico goes down the wrong path to protect the kingdom, misunderstood by most citizens. Asha researches and realizes his intentions, using her power to heal him and joining forces to create a more compassionate rule.. And look at the state of the kingdom. Besides her one friend, everyone is happy, safe, signing and dancing, and willingly gave their wish to him because they thought it would be too hard to achieve themselves. He takes the wish, protects them, and the memories of what the wish was are erased so they're not stressing about it. The people know this. He's not hiding anything of what he's doing. Asha is just upset that her grandpa didn't get his wish, so she decides he's evil, and the movie does everything it can to try to prove her right, but it kinda fails in my opinion.

I wish he dived into the concepts of the original movie. There was SO much potential and work done on the original draft, where the king and queen were EVIL already, therefore giving a way better reason for Asha to want more for her people instead of acting like they're all suffering for NO reason (because everyone is genuinely happy, they dont care about anything until Asha messed stuff up), and the Star was originally a magical, shape shifting boy who would become Asha's love interest. I've seen animatics and art, and the original idea for this film was already fleshed out to a great extent and looked SO much more intense and genuine and original. Disney messed up SO badly with this movie, and I desperately hope we get a miracle to have it be remade. Also Asha really did just screw up in this movie. One of the big gripes people have is Magnifico ISNT A BAD GUY. He starts off as an actually normal, sensible dude with reasons for what he does, but then Asha comes in and has the nerve to question his methods when she was COMPLETELY aware of how the entire system works for the wishes already and never complained before. After that Magnifico gets mad, and Asha, feeling offended and sad because her grandpa wont get his wish (as if his life wasn't already content and prosperous in a kingdom where they DONT EVEN HAVE TO PAY TO LIVE THERE, as Magnifico himself said), we get the random song "I Make This Wish" which is incredibly contradictive to the plot because Asha sings about wanting "more than this" and acting like the kingdom deserves better and that she's trying to discover herself or what ever, when up until this point, we literally have seen how HAPPY everyone is, and how satisfied Asha ALREADY was with her life. But oh no, now everything is suddenly awful and HAS to change because the king doesnt grant every wish, even though that's EXACTLY what everyone knew and willingly abided by. Asha's motivation makes no sense, is what i'm trying to say. In return, she causes a once GOOD king to lose his mind out of fear of the magic from the star that Asha's song summons (Because oh my god, how fortunate and privileged she must be to only need to SING in order to get a magical, wish granting God on her side) and he tries to snuff her out rightfully because she's literally planning to rob his entire purpose and what his kingdom represents. Also it's important to note that in this movie, Magnifico is a good husband. His wife loves him, he listens to her, she supports him... UNTIL he snaps and his wife INSTANTLY disowns him and acts like she never knew him and doesn't even consider trying to redeem him or help him out. She just instantly accepts that her long time husband and good king is a bad man, and she feels 0 remorse or sympathy when he gets locked up in the dungeon. It's messed up.

Wait a minute that’s actually a great idea! It does everything Wish wished it did. Acknowledge new and old Disney without feeling needlessly shoehorned in, a plot that while stupidly complicated as the series went on actually does have an end goal for the most part as to why the Disney worlds even exist so they could’ve made it a series of movies with the first one being a straight adaptation of the first game, and you actually give a shit about the worlds and characters. I mean could you imagine a big budget Disney 2D anime styled film for KH? I mean it’s not like the animation studio hasn’t wanted to explore and expand their talent. Hell Encanto in the art of book actually said that the staff originally wanted the art style of the movie to be a blend of traditional Disney Animation with that of Hayao Miyazaki work like Howl’s Moving Castle but it got canned early on most likely do to the higher ups saying no hence why the film looked more in line with the same art style they’ve been using since Frozen.

How is it that, SQUARE ENIX another studio made a better interconnected Disney story using iconic characters than F*CKIN DISNEY THEMSELVES. granted kingdom hearts kinda cheesy and confusing but its still an original story AND THEY EVEN USE THEIR OWN CHARACTERS AS WELL. modern disney can die in a pool of debt that they made. No one will care. Disneys magic drained out years ago.

I think they could have fixed the problem of magnifico not being villainous enough and asha being too villainous for a protagonist by having magnifico use the wishes as the source of his power from the beggining, like that's why he collects the wishes in the first place, he lies to the people by saying that it's so difficult to grant wishes that he can only grant a few but the truth is that he destroy most of the wishes he gets to use as a magic source. And the people also need to feel the absence of their wish instead of carrying on like normal, they need to be yearning for something they don't know what it is, like they are aimless in life, you could have them all put up a facade of happiness for newcomers to the kingdom but in private the people are sad.

0:18 i say answer i never cared to see this movie. i was more enaged with enjoying watching godzilla minus one when it was in theatres, they were both release around the same time back in december. Godzilla minus one was a far better movie to watch in theatres back in december. Minus one managaed to make it to the oscars for best visual effects. Takashi yamazaki, the director of godzilla minus one held it down when handling the production crew, very on point than how hollywood does it. Toho released a video of takashi yamazki breaking down his role as a director and also a VFX in handling his production team on youtube. Not to mention minus one was made to also celebrate godzilla’s 70th aniversary and they nailed it quite well. Did you get to see godzilla minus one when it came out in thatres in december?

I love the idea this is the prequel to Zootopia instead of it being a reference make it real because she single handedly with the first wish she grants killed all of the humans. Animals are equals but human all of a sudden realise meat is off the table they Rebel against Asha because she in one wish has taken away half the humans food supply and taken away their choices and ya know humans we love our freedom to choose so some human probably try eating a now sentient cow causing the animals to rebel causing a war that causes humans to die out. Showing Magnifico right wishes in the hands of ideots ruined everything.

I haven't seen Wish nor do I plan to but I've heard that it's basically just not a good movie and the plot and characters are so uninspired and generic that you would swear that it's AI generated and it shows that Disney hasn't made a good movie since Zootopia or Moana and have basically forgotten how to make an actual good movie and something with substance and actual personality. Not to mention that this is the movie they choose to use to commemorate the 100-year anniversary when they could have made a movie that is 10 times better and easily more enjoyable than this pile of crap then I'm starting to be convinced it' is AI generated and just made because Disney doesn't feel like trying anymore and what's even more sad is that this is the movie that they use to celebrate the 100-year anniversary and honestly it's heartbreaking to know that they could have made it a much better movie and turn this concept that actually is interesting into something really worthwhile but chose they chose to make a uninspired and generic pile of horse manure and something Disney is going to regret having made when they think back on why the late 2010s and 2020s was not a good period for them at all both animated and live action
