The heart of the Flintstones cartoon for me was easily the slapstick humor. The show genuinely had some fucking hilarious moments that occured on a frequent basis. I don't even view it as a sitcom honestly. The Jetsons definitely has a very sitcomy vibe to it but The Flintstones on the other hand almost feels more like a Looney Tunes show than anything else - it had some damn perfect comedic timing. Meanwhile the movie lacks any hint of comedy or slapstick whatsoever. I mean yeah the writing sucks, the casting choices are questionable and the script is awful, but the lack of humor is what really made it fail as a Flintstones adaptation.

I grew up watching reruns of both "Flintstones" and "Jetsons", so I liked this movie because it was actually semi-faithful to the source. My only main gripe is Rosie O'Donnell; she didn't look like Betty Rubble even though she had the laugh down. Rick Moranis was okay as Barney, but John Goodman and Elizabeth Perkins were perfect for Fred and Wilma. Years later, I'd also notice "Law & Order" star Dann Florek as Mr. Slate, but Halle Berry was virtually unknown at the time. This movie was also my introduction to Kyle MacLachlan's work; I really liked him in the second season for "Agents of SHIELD".

i remember it being a good enough distraction for a sitting. The major problem that i recollect is that they tried to half-ass 3 storylines into one movie. You had Fred failing the test, Fred being a CEO and the split between him and Barney. Each of those would have been 1-2 episodes of the show and could have worked as the lynchpin of the movie. Instead they underdeveloped all 3. On the show itself, i really like the imagination with modern appliances in a stone age setting. The thing Doug and Rob kinda miss is that it was more aimed to adults then kids. Fred and Barneys misshaps was always rotted in situations that would feel more relatable to adults then kids and then insert all-ages jokes around that (like complaining about the flight, only to have the pterodactyl comment on it.)
@SamanthaPortUkulele8 жыл бұрын
Yeah, the original show was definitely more of a standard adult-oriented sitcom that just happened to be animated than a kids' show.

The Flintstones were basically an animated 60's family sitcom, with a cave man setting... Pretty simple really. Not really a whole heck of a lot you can do with the Flintstones, unless you go Jurassic Park, typical family issues/dad has to work late hours, or "Let's make a movie to advertise a theme park" mode, etc. The Jetsons have a LOT of possibilities... Just the 60's "futuristic" colors ALONE could sell the movie. Yes, a LOT more can be done with the Jetsons...

At one point, they had Milla Jovovich play a sexy foreign exchange student who steals Christina Applegate's social life. The episode "Fair Exchange" aired on 10/29/1989, making Christina 17-years-old at that time. If you think that's creepy, they had Milla's character simply refer to Christina as a "little sister" to get around the fact that the former was only 13-years-old at the time.

I vaguely remember the Flintstones episode that parodied the Beatles. I think there was a mobster or a hillbilly who kept pestering the Flintstones, the Rubbles, and their Addams Family/Minsters neighbors (may have been the Ghastlees...). To drive him off, all the families dressed in Beatles wigs and sang "Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, Yeeeeeeeeah!" scaring off the hillbilly

Directed by brian levant. He did christmas with the cranks...this was so much better. " I YABBA DABBA DOO" aired in 1993 on ABC. And megan mullaley was the voice of pebbles.

I love the Flinstones and first film starring John Goodman as Fred is one of my favorite films when I was a kid (on the countrary, Viva Rock Vegas is awful).

The early episodes of the Flintstones have a lot of unique and funny drawings because the artists and animators were encouraged to be inventive and not worry too much about staying "on model" to impede their creativity. after they became more strict about following the model sheets exactly the show became far less fun to watch and was just a toned down Honeymooners.

I really liked this movie for what it was. a live action version of a decent cartoon. John Goodman and Rick Moranis were the real selling point, everybody else did just ok.

I could watch "The Flinstones" as a kid (the cartoon, that is). It wasn't my favorite, but it was entertaining enough. I remember the movie being heavily advertised and even as a kid, I thought it looked bad. Anyone remember the "Flinstone Kids" cartoon? I don't remember anything about it but how they looked. I remember Pebbles and Bamm Bamm's wedding special and their special about them having twins.

As a kid all I really loved about this movie was the soundtrack, which my grandma bought for me for my birthday that year LOL. I don't remember what songs were on it but I just remember loving it

Are you referring to the Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes? If you are, there's a lot more than "several" lodges. I'm a member myself.

+Warren “Phoenix2312” Marris Weird thing too was that they were never always part of the Water Buffalos, when you look at the first 2 season at least, it was the loyal order of Dinosaurs...lame isn't it? At least the Water Buffalos was a little more out there and somewhat more creative than just dinosaurs only because its caveman times.
