FILM SYNOPSIS
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
The Warriors is a 1979 action-adventure film directed by Walter Hill and based on Sol Yurick's 1965 novel of the same name. The movie is set in a dystopian New York City, where various street gangs rule different neighborhoods. The Warriors, a gang from Coney Island, attend a summit called by Cyrus, the leader of the most powerful gang in the city. However, Cyrus is assassinated, and the blame falls on the Warriors, who must fight their way back to their home turf while being hunted by every other gang in the city. The movie follows their journey as they navigate through the treacherous streets of New York, encountering rival gangs and the police, while struggling to prove their innocence and survive the night. With its iconic soundtrack, memorable characters, and stylized action sequences, "The Warriors" has become a cult classic over the years and remains a beloved film in the genre of gang movies.

I heard a version of that line on the intro of a Twisted Sister album and never knew where it came from until a few years ago when I saw The Warriors for the first time. I'm ashamed to say I don't remember when the movie first came out, although I should've seeing as how I was 7 years old at the time. Oh well, better late than never!

It's because of this movie that one of the best movies of 1979 only received a limited release and flopped but went on to become a cult classic after playing on HBO, Over the Edge. After gang violence in theaters that played this movie and the negative press from that Orion Pictures was afraid something similar would happen if Over the Edge was given a wide release. And what a shame because it's the single best movie that realistically shows what life was like for teens in the late 70's.

@@biggtrux That is the movies one flaw, the themes of some of the gangs, killer mimes and painted baseball players. But aside from that it's an excellent movie, and reflects what the streets of NYC were like at the time, it's hard for someone who wasn't around in those days to get their head wrapped around the fact that if things kept going the way they were in NYC then the premise of the movie Escape From New York was perfectly feasible, just throwing a wall up around the place and turning it into a prison wasn't a far fetched idea back then, I'm always having to explain that to younger people who watch that movie and don't understand why they would do that, I have to explain to them that at that point Times Square wasn't the tourist trap it is these days, back then it was full of porno theaters, pimps, hookers, muggers and pickpockets, you took your life in your hands going to Times Square in the daytime back then much less at night. NYC exited the 80's a very different city it was when it entered it.

There's something about it that just keeps people coming back. For some I guess it's nostalgia, although not for me as I was only 8yrs old when it came out and living in an area of the UK that didn't, and still doesn't, have gangs. I've been watching it since the mid 80s on video rental. Then I bought it on VHS, and again on DVD. It's a great film.

Hey Boppers, My name is Moise Morancy. I’m the writer, director and producer on this proof of concept. I also star as Cleon in this. If you’re like me, someone who appreciates and loves “The Warriors,” you know in 2005, Rockstar created a video game based on the cult classic and gave a backstory to how the gang was formed. Myself and others believe this needs to be remade as a prequel. No one can hold a candle to the originators but I wanted to pay homage and give them their flowers. Because they weren’t good…they were “the best.” I hope you enjoy! 🙏🏿

The Warriors is in my Top 5 movies ever made! Everything from the storyline, the music, and the grittiness really pulls you in to the movie. I always figured they would do a updated modern version of it…but some things are better left untouched especially this gem! Watch this movie in 4K OMG I fell in love with the movie all over again. My only curiosity is how the movie would have turned out if Cleon stayed a main character throughout the whole movie…his energy was bad ass!

Cleon wasn't as cynical as Swan. Cleon knew what he was doing when he named Swan deputy war chief. Instead of Ajax. Swan was smart, cool under pressure, and be could "bop." The problem for Cleon was that Luther was a cunning little psychopath. I really liked Mercy. She just captured the moment. Her and Swan really had a Romeo and Juliet thing going. With a happier ending. I think Swan woulda left the gang life soon after. Joined the military, become a mercenary or a cop. Ajax becomes a hit man for sure.

I was 16 when this movie started playing at our local movie theater at Midnight. Along side The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Talk about a diverse group. I saw the Warriors at least 10 times, and let me tell you. It wasn't just a movie. It was an event. Cheering, shouting, stand up applauding scenes. This brought back good memories. Great review b.t.w.

I saw photos and the actors all looked incredibly buff and I couldn’t stand the thought of these men bursting out into song and then start dancing. That would’ve been embarrassing so I stayed away. I finally decided to give the movie a chance and watch it. Now I love this movie. From now on I will give a movie a chance before I prejudge it and just relax. 🙂
