Update; A lot of people have rightly asked whether the machine can be used without logging in. Perhaps in the advent that AtGames servers are taken down in the future, etc... So I contacted AtGames and this was their response; "Yes it can totally be used without signing in. You can use the built in games and OTG mode to connect a Pi or PC and play games that way. You only have to log in for online play and services, as well as log in once every 5 times you power on the device to use AddOn X and CoinopsX (COX). As to if the online services go away, I don't know what we could say there. We have no intentions of shutting online capabilities down. We're very online oriented. I guess if we completely had to leave the online world, we'd have a solution that would always be to the benefit of the consumer." My view on this is that, I guess they could potentially remove the Addon/COX modes at their own discretion (if they were hit with a lawsuit for example), even if you opt out of future firmware updates. This would still allow us to plug in a Pi to the HDMI, and use CoinOPs/RetroArch via that route. BUT that's not ideal. Plus, worst case, if the company were to fold, then I *highly* doubt they would make firming up of existing machines a priority. So this is worth bearing in mind if you're looking for a standalone future proof solution. On the flip side. The community is outstanding, and I have little doubt that it would be hacked and restored to former glory in no time. There are some excellent channels that cover the Legends Ultimate; PDubs Arcade Loft - kzbin.info Restalgia - kzbin.info/door/-rS0donnV8wupjW2Vzrlnw CoolToy - kzbin.info These are the kind of channels that help form the backbone of the retro community, so be sure to check them out and say "Hello there". If you're in the UK you can grab a cabinet from Liberty Games at nnerd.es/legends, unfortunately, us Brits pay more due to shipping & import charges (it feels like the 90s again). In the US, they're available from several retailers. I'm unsure about the rest of the world. You'll find some other useful links in the description.

Better off ordering a premade flatpack arcade cab with retro stickers of your choice off eBay putting a Raspberry Pi 4 in and downloading 'arcadepunks' image for it. Wiring a control panel is easy. Only slightly more effort but way better and much cheaper too!!

It's not if you want to use the built in games or hook a pi or PC up to it using OTG mode. The login is required for any streaming service, no different than PS or Xbox. If you want to use CoinopsX or AddOn X then you have to login once every 5 power ons.

Yes, it initially makes you login as its supposed to be a "connected arcade". After my initial login, it hasn't asked me to login again. Apparently, it makes you login again if you use the build in AddOnX tool after 5 attempts, but that's not something I've really used. I've heard that if AtGames ever bring down their login services, you'll be able to bypass, but it's definitely a risk/concern in any case.

On one hand, it's more than the pieces of silicon that make it up. A hypothetical homebrew RasPi solution (probably) doesn't have licensed games, and a bill of materials for the timber, monitor, RasPi etc doesn't include the time and effort you put into making it work. So I don't think "processor X is slower than processor Y" is a useful comparison. On the other hand, I agree the price tag is VERY high, even with all that in mind.

Wow, the price on this is crazy high in your neck of the woods. In the US, this typically goes for $500-$600 (~£359-£431 when directly converted), depending on where you get it from, what's included, and if it's on sale or not. For the US price, I'd say it's a good deal, especially if you connect a PC, Raspberry Pi, or MiSTER up to it. I also looked into how much it would cost to put one together by buying the parts myself, and as someone who isn't a woodworker, the cheapest solutions with good components would cost just as much if not more than one of these at the US MSRP. And those DIY solutions wouldn't even have the spinners and trackball like this does!

Couldn't agree more! LCD is just wrong in a cab, it wouldn't be quite so bad if it was 4:3 but even then, it'd be replaced with a CRT if it was me. I bought an original Namco cab with a 16:9 24" lcd hacked into it a couple of years ago, first thing I did was take that out and replace it with a proper 28" Hantarex Polo CRT monitor (I have loads of arcade monitors stored), like it had when it was built originally!

As far as multicade machines go that's not excessive. I paid £700 some years ago for a full-size two player multicade machine which had one of those 60-in-1 arcade boards. At that time there simply weren't that many of those types of machines out there. I eventually spent another £200 or so upgrading the buttons and sticks and replacing the board with an old spare PC running MAME, which made it a much better machine. The TN monitor isn't amazing compared to modern IPS displays, but it's good enough. I've also added a separate USB trackball and a Spinner as add-on controllers I can use for other games. I've also imported at great expense an Arcade 1-Up Star Wars machine as can't get them in the UK (Star wars is my favorite arcade game). That's one thing a multicade can't really do, as you need the yoke controller, which just won't easily fit onto a multicade panel, so there is a place for certain Arcade 1Up machines.

I feel quite lucky with mine. Here in Spain, for 500 euros including delivery. I got a full sized arcade cabinet, with CRT old school screen. The cabinet is an original old games cab from what looks like the early 90s. It looks a little worn but thats all part of it! Its got coin slot (though that bit isnt functioning). Its got new buttons, and a "insert coin button". I had to fix some wiring and put a new bulb in for the marquee above. Its driven by a JAMMA pandoras box 4s with 999 games. A simple games selection menu. It doesnt connect online so dont need to register any accounts etc. It feels as authentic as it gets. I love it! Its got some classics, but missing a few would nice to haves. But the ROMs are hard coded so i dont think i can change them. (at least i dont know how to). It has one single speaker which I have wired a volume control to. I think i got a good deal. I know these pandoras box's arent using licensed ROMs though.

You could plug in your PS or Xbox with an HDMI cable as well as the USB link cable and play whatever you want using the cab controller and display, am I wrong? If so, then when you treat is as an arcade control board + display it isn't actually that expensive. A decent arcade joystick/controller board with a decent IPS 24" display will already run you about half the cost of this thing, then add the built in emulation hardware, cabinet and features and it's actually pretty reasonable for what it is. IMO they should make a separate model that is just that, a display and controller cabinet that you can fit your own system inside, be it a console, Pi or a PC with emulation software etc. That would probably sell really well, particularly if you can swap out the controllers with other modular ones.

It’s tempting but I dnno.. Maybe if I had a spare grand to spare on stuff, but who has that these days besides people not affected by the pandemic? Edit: ok the light gun plus a sensor on an arcade cabinet seems really intriguing.. point blank or other games like a real arcade would be so much fun. I hope there’s a way to attach better speakers too, just in case. It seems like there’s a lot of customization with this thing, and that’s what I like.

I'm running out of space unless I make some changes in that room. I may end up getting this all in one game as well. Not sure yet. I still like the idea of several arcade games where people can play the game of choice. If you only have on unit, people end up standing around watching one guy play or taking turns. It's also nice to have the T2 stand alone machine or to walk up and play Pacman and Galaga without having to let the machine power up 10min and sort through so many games. I can see having it as a part of the collection though.

It goes both ways :). I just got my c64 Maxi 3 weeks ago, and that was leased over year ago in the U.K.? Though odd. I did get my theVic20 before getting my Maxi64. And that only took 3 weeks. My c64 Maxi took months an month. But I am happy. I have both happily sitting next to each other. Now I just have to find a HDMI to CRT conversion, and hook up an old school monitor. Another great show. I brightened my day, as it did not start out great.

Short answer, yes, any emulation box is better than paying $800+ for a full arcade cabinet that has subpar screen and speakers.

I'm glad they have physical volume buttons. It would be really nice if it had a dial too (dials likely fail faster than buttons, so having both would be nice) and a mute button. A mute button is nice if someone knocks on your door or your phone rings or you hear a sound that you need to pay attention to.

Having worked in a second-hand games shop, I'm utterly *gob-smacked* ATGames are trying to move up-market like this. Their products were always unmitigated garbage, to the point we stopped purchasing them for resale. I can't IMAGINE spending $800 on anything they made!

Ouch, in the States the retail price is $600 USD, which is ... 445 GBP today. And realistically I would buy it at one store that sells it for $500 with included bonus pinball buttons on the side. Quite a different value proposition at half the price...

This really sounds like AtGames took a bunch of cheap arcade parts for a basic "arcade kit" and added a little polish to a bunch of open-source emulators to get the emulation to be "not terrible", then slapped a network-based subscription on top. No thanks. There are ways they could have done this that would have made it more interesting. Firstly, if this was a Raspberry Pi in a box (and it effectively is), make that central to the design. Not as "this is a Rasperry Pi accessory" so much as you explicitly design the thing around a module containing a Pi and a place to maybe add a 2.5" drive (if you want one…) Kit comes with their SD card with their own customized (improved?) RetroPie-sort-of-thing, no emulators that disallow commercial use, something that a person could build but pre-configured and polished in a way that few individuals ever would. Oh, and with features you added to be able to polish it that way contributed upstream-if you're going to take advantage of open source software, that's fine. Include credits for the products used and if you added a feature to them (such as the ability to replace a few of RetroPie's text menus with graphical ones), pull request those features for upstream. Make them configurable options and you don't even have to provide any graphical assets to go with the feature. That kind of thing. Polish it up really nicely on your end and oh yeah, here's a pre-loaded SD card with 300 odd games included automatically. Sign up with our store for the ability to add more, 100% legally. Things like that would greatly improve my interest in the thing.

The Megadrive Mini was built well enough that people modded it to put on your own games. Seems AtGames has learned some of those lessons to involve the community. What people will build with it might end up being more fun than the base machine.

I really like the review of this cabinet and I wished I had had this cabinet instead of its ugly stepchild (don't scream) Arcade 1UP. If you just have to have an arcade cabinet, or lack the technical or building skills to make one, than this is a solid choice for people looking for that nostalgia experience. But with that being said, I and many others have taken those red headed stepchildren and supercharged them with old PC's (I3/I5/Raspberry Pi) and THAT is where concepts like this shine!!! An old PC, copy of MAME and a Maximus front-end and you got a beast that can do anything you want. Plus the benefit of not needing "patching" unless you change MAME versions. But in that case, you can either use good tools to patch, or use different versions of MAME that work fine. And this is NOT a debate over piracy as many of us own PC and console rom compilations and arcade machines. Look, a hand made machine is legal as you get as long as you don't sell the machine with Roms. If you make money with this, yes it is wrong but the vast majority of "rom users" have no intention of making profit, we just love retro gaming and companies don't have rom compilations to just sell. So while this is a good attempt at selling a quasi legal classic games machine, it's hardware is just like Arcade 1UP's and both at least competently run games, the @tgames is the better choice both in build quality, and options. And for what you are getting, you are at least getting an arcade game you do not have to spend a huge amount of effort setting up. So a good retro cabinet for the first time retro gamer. And a good choice for even more seasoned retro gamers or home arcade owners.

As a teen, using coin ops 3 was like opening a portal to an alternate dimension, where games never went past the 16-but era. Great times were had starting up random games I’d never heard of and trying to figure out how on Earth to control them and what was mapped where on my Duke controller.

I bought a broken down arcade machine for £100, stripped it out (made back £50 selling the unwanted parts) added a 19 inch Lcd, fitted a dual X-Arcade stick thingy (£70), stuck a modded PS2 and Dreamcast inside and now i can play 1000's of retro games + any PS2 or DC titles, All for under £250 and i love it. At about $1,100 when this video was published... I would find it a better value to buy a dead arcade cabinet, a retired office PC, a GPU, and a SSD... And make a MAME cabinet that's better in every way. Although I do see the advantage of the All-in-one package, but for the price... in my opinion, I want system board with more grunt that can at least play the fifth generation consoles... And the PSP and DS...
