Thanks for watching! A few people have asked how much the CNC machine cost: To hire its usage cost $130 but at 9:12 we mention how to do it at home with a jig saw :-) Not many other tools are needed and there are budget alternatives for everything, e.g. sandpaper instead of the table sander... The biggest cost is time. We provide the plans & costs free of charge in the description to save you a bunch of that time, and so anyone can 100% definitely do it at home for the price we showed. Thank the maker! 🚀

I remember playing the Star Wars ‘cockpit’ game in the arcade on Brighton’s Palace Pier back in the 1980’s as a kid. 20p a game, seemed like a fortune then! Great video, thanks for this mate

@Phil Smith I think you made @Retro Recipes point. Considering that the cab costs $400 and decals $250, months of tied up free time cost well more than $650, to me anyway. I make quality custom arcade cabinets, and the materials cost no where near the value of all of my time designing, planning and constructing them. kzbin.info/www/bejne/qXOmiqJvgNNkeJI

Purchased this game recently. (Super impressed with your custom sit down version!) I remember playing as a kid and loving it and thinking that “one day when I’m rich I’ll be able to have one of these in my house like the kid on Silver Spoons”. Fast forward to 2020 and I’m not rich but I finally have it. What a dream come true. I recall in the 80’s going to a Pizza Hut and begging my Dad for a quarter to play the arcade game again. “But I bought you the home version!” he said. True, I did get the Atari 800 version for Christmas one year but it just wasn’t the same. The Tie fighters were just sprites that didn’t change size and floated around the screen and the joystick wasn’t analog like the arcade yoke. Then in the 2000’s and I got to play the game again with MAME but still not the same without the yoke. Played a rare functioning sit down at the Pinball museum in Asheville two years ago and got to experience the game as it was intended. Now I don’t have to go anywhere but my own den. One of the few good things to come out of 2020 for me.

Absolutely fantastic! I used to think before the Internet that I was a HUGE Star Wars fan but I quickly realised I was just a part timer compared to so so many. One thing I will say about the arcade game as when its mentioned in the video that it was like being in the movie and then you see these barely legible ? ledgable? barely see 'em vector graphics it must seem like a funny joke today. But I would go every Saturday into this one arcade in my town and play this for as long as I had money to burn and I was in the movie. I quickly grew to hate all but the trench run as that's the real moment you feel like you're in the movie. I developed a love for vector graphics so strong that I rejected filled and textured 3D graphics for years. It just looked wrong to me haha the vectors were so pure. Anyway another arcade much further away from where I lived had the Empire game and I seem to remember really loving that one but I never got enough money or time to play it enough to get good and that was a standup version I played of that one. The sitdown cabinet is just the best. There were precious few arcade games that enveloped you completely like that but I loved all of them. Afterburner was one I remember with a moving cockpit and Hard Drivin' was another sit down cabinet you really got into. Good times! I'd love to play this again but without that yoke it just wouldn't be the same, so very jealous but also really happy the proejct turned out so well.

Great work, The sit down version was hard to find in arcades in the 80's. I only had the pleasure of playing on one a few times, every other arcade was the stand up. Still one of the best arcade games of all time! I can only imagine the joy you must of had as a Star Wars Geek getting to work Directly with George Lucas. Thanks for providing even more insight into your roles with the Star Wars franchise.

This is truely awesome... I was just talking to my mate a few weeks back about the 1up star wars arcade but he wasn't interested because he wanted the full cabinet experience..I was also very surprised to find out about your involvement in the star wars prequels. You must do a video going into the history behind that... Thanks again for your awesomeness

Not only is this absolutely beautiful, it's an improvement upon the original. I've never liked angle of the yoke in the cockpit version. It was a straight up 90 degrees. Made it extremely difficult to aim for the upper corners. Keeping the angle of the A1Up console yoke has just, um, one-upped Atari.

across the pond here, back in 1996 my school had grad night at disneyland (end of year party for graduating high school). There was a version of this game that you actually strapped in and could turn 360 barrel rolls. The attendant said for that night it was only $5/ ride... normally it was $10. Keep in mind games cost $0.25 to play and i made $4.25/hr at my job. It was awesome, it also had feedback seats that shook when you were hit.

Really enjoyed this! Great idea and very well executed - I loved the dubbing over the movie with the arcade sound, that worked brilliantly! Will you be looking out for original innards in the future for the authentic vector experience? I'd love an original vector game, whether it's asteroids, battlezone, tempest or star wars - the raster versions are fun but don't do them justice. I do however have an old Vectrex in the shed that I've not powered-up for about 15 years, so maybe I should give it a go - it's in a box next to my Colecovision, half a ZX Spectrum and my original C64! Time for that retro shelf! I'm concentrating on my own arcade cabinet project right now though, nearing completion, s i hope to post a video about it soon. I also got my parts CNC'd and the price was quite reasonable - about 100 quid including the plywood. The single most expensive part for me so far has been the vinyl printing for the artwork, but it's pretty essential, right?
@RetroRecipes
@RetroRecipes 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I'm actually happy with the 1Up display, for now... It has some vector emulation modes. I have it set to "vector glow" since the video which adds a glow around all lines, like it used to be 😊

@@cameralabs Yup! I'm going to revisit for sure some day. BTW yes CNC is great value. Our 4 pieces cost only $130. We got a few comments saying this build isn't $455 it's $455 + $50,000 for that machine 🤦‍♂️ But then I probably don't have to tell you about certain types of commenters 😉 Will you be posting your Vetrex as a video?
@cameralabs
@cameralabs 4 жыл бұрын
@@RetroRecipes yeah I saw some of those comments! IT'S A LABOUR OF LOVE, YOU CAN'T CHARGE FOR YOUR TIME! I've always resisted unboxing videos BUT I have a giant box in my shed with all my old computers and consoles it it, including the Vectrex, so I would love to do a retro unboxing and tryout! But whenever I deviate from my core subject of camera reviews, the videos always do very badly, for example my recent Tidal and Aeropress reviews. I understand it, but it's still frustrating! I have been filming my arcade cabinet build though, so that one will definitely get published. i reckon it'll be complete in a week or two depending on vinyl and glass suppliers. I'm looking forward to the 167 views it'll get over its lifetime...

Great job on recreating the old Arcade experience. The one item I do remember in these old full size arcade machines is that they did use a CRT and then project it onto a mirror or glass to create more depth. The projection would need to be a mirror image when projected against a mirror would result into a normal projection. One of my favorites from that time was chop lifter from Sega.

I've always had Star Peace... I love all the films, in different ways. I guess it's unconditional love. They mostly all have problems, but it's easier to love them than all the fighting. That arcade machine brings back good memories. There used to be a large amusement park/arcade in Sheerness, Isle of Sheppey, Kent which had one of the sit down versions of the game. Every year when us kids visited father during one of the school holidays, he would take us to the arcades, give us a pound note which I would change for 10p's and then queue at the machine waiting my turn. Must admit I was not very good at the game but oh boy it was fun to play :)
