As someone who was in a "relationship" with a 33 year old man when I was 13, a lot of predators behave like David. They will manipulate and love bomb you into enterting the relationship, and the swoop in with the false concern about your comfort and if you're really sure, so that you feel like it was all your decision and if you try to bring up your discomfort or your boundaries being violated in the future, they'll use your agreement in the past against you. It's coercion. It's emotional abuse. And it's specifically designed to make you look good to outsiders.

I was also groomed by a man 11 years older than me starting when I was 13. What stood out to me was the part where David says "I kept reminding her about our age gap over and over again" and it's supposed to be him "making sure she's still okay with it." What it felt like was the age gap being normalized within the relationship. Instead of not addressing it, it got addressed so much that it felt "normal." My abuser did the same thing, and eventually it became a joke of all things. "Oh haha, you're not THAT old," or "It's a good thing I'm so mature for my age!" I hope you have been able to find peace. I ended up taking my abuser to court, and was able to come to terms with things that way, by making publicly heinous what was privately heinous. He didn't get the sentence he deserved (despite tens of thousands of messages I had as evidence), but therapy has helped me move on.

I had a friend who was dating someone long distance from the Philippines, literally just an online relationship, and one time the family had a medical emergency that my friend paid for and the family were so happy they named the next baby born in the family after my friend. My friend said he isn't rich but it wasn't even that much money, and it just depressed him so much that the few hundred dollars he sent over changed an entire families life so much they honoured him by naming their next family baby after him. Poverty in a lot of countries can be so bad that marrying foreigners and isolating yourself by leaving your home country is the only way a lot of people can help their family survive and it unfortunately opens a lot of doors to abuse and exploitation.

Imagine a single dollar's worth multiplied by 60, that's how much the currency discrepancy is compared to the states. A lot of our workforce willingly outsource themselves in order to provide for their families. Even a low-paying job by an American's standard is drastically worth more here. A lot of women and even men look for a foreign spouse because of this. It's gotten to a point that it is normalized and very encouraged here, we even have a term called, 'afam' (ah-fam), which basically means: "American man you want to get with for $"

1. As a 22 year old woman, I appreciate the applause thank you 2. I know she was an adult yet this somehow still feels like pedophilia Edit: it has been brought to my attention that my use of the word pedophilia in this context is both incorrect and harmful. I agree with those who say that using that word for this waters down the true definition of pedophilia (which although it’s dictionary definition means an adult attracted to prepubescent children, I think that the cultural use is closer to “a person above 18 attracted to a person below 18”. I want to apologize and clarify that I believe this situation is extremely predatory as the power dynamics are completely shifted in favor of the man. Not only is he older by multiple decades, but also has the added power of being the one who essentially gave her the way to take care of her family and can take that away as well. Sorry this edit was long, I apologize for my bad choice of words.

Because she's Christian and due to their culture, she feels divorce is not an option; if she tried she'd lose all her birth family and be completely isolated, so she's trapped trying to make it work with an asshole who took everything from her, even her own son. She is a gold digger 😂 and he's a cradle robber, they are both voluntarily in this relationship and she can leave so I don't think it's any better that people in the comments here are calling him a monster and a predator. But yes, there's a problem with the fact that she's being demonized and the woman in these relationships ALWAYS is. But neither of them should be judged. This is a transaction, neither party is giving or receiving anything unfairly or against their will, and I don't know why people need to condemn either one of them.

my opinion: grooming isn’t just confined to an adult grooming a child. it can be an older child (say, 17?) and a younger child, an older adult grooming a young adult, but this situation doesn’t seem like it, but at the same time his actions were very groomer-esque and trafficker-esque. maybe those weren’t his intentions but it’s still icky, and still immoral. like cooper said, things don’t have to be illegal to be immoral

I used to be a big fan of age gap relationships. I was in one when I was much much younger, and that ended as horribly as you all could imagine. I’m 30 now and in another age gap relationship however, I have the hindsight I never saw before. When I was a lot younger, and much more naive I was tricked into believing that I was mature, and special, not like other girls, and had “such a good head on your shoulders”. I used to relish these compliments and truly believed them because they were from people far older than me. That’s the issue. That’s how easy it was for me to fall into it and be easy prey. I can watch this tiktok couple now, and as much as they claim to be in love and that “it’s real” I can’t help but see the similarities in what I used to say and how I used to act. I feel sorry that this is happening all the time, and that young women, children are being abused this way. My age gap relationship now is not as big as the previous one, and I hope I’m wise to the things I wasn’t before. I believe the only age gap relationships that can work are the ones where the couple are both older, considered actual adults, and both independent. Otherwise I’m afraid it ends up a lot like my first relationship, and this tiktok couple where it’s so obviously abuse and control.

It was refreshing to watch you show support for her and not victim shame her for possibly marrying that old ass man so she could provide for her family. It was great that you touched upon that side of her why and why she might be sacrificing her youth to dote on that old man. And it was amusing to watch you react to their relationship too! I couldn't watch those two be intimate at all when you were showing it. I'm 37 and it was gross for me to watch them. He has aged very badly, became an alcoholic. He's a great father to my younger sister but I don't think he's happy... It took me a long time to realise how fucked up it was for my mother to do that. 11 years is not that much, but the power dynamic was very one sided.

🚨Actions speak louder than words🚨 Yes, he's saying a lot of the "right" things, and could've gone about things worse. But he, a grown ass man, decided to go to the Philippines, a place with a developing economy (i.e. statistically higher chance of finding someone who could really use financial assistance) to SEEK out a YOUNG woman. He knows how to take photos and use a smartphone, yet chose to keep his profile anonymous. He knew what he wanted. And he knew what he was doing. 🚩🚩🚩 Edit: Not to mention fetish culture. I'd be willing to bet he's always had a thing for Asian women. 🚩🚩🚩🚩

I lived in the Philippines and was present for an engagement party between a 25 y/o woman and a 50 something y/o man. We all knew... but they also knew why they were being married. She did tell me it was because she was concerned about how her children (from before this marriage) would fare if she didn't get married. They're happy and he was very sweet, but we all knew why the wedding was happening

my mom grew up in the philippines and lived there most of her life, and although my dad isn’t 42 years older than her, she does the same thing where she uses all her income to support her family at home. she’s told me it’s a huge cultural thing for the kids to support the elders, and also for the most successful ones to support the rest of the family. when it comes down to it tho, she prefers living here and as much as she loves her family, she finds the caretaker role exhausting

I'm a filipina 21 year old and lemme just say a lot of people go to America and send money back to their family and don't get to see them for years or even decades. i didn't grow up in the Philippines so i wouldn't know how it feels first hand to need to support your family, but my mom and dad send money each year and rarely get to go back home. the happiness they feel when they do go back is so obvious but i also know they don't want to move there again. but it truly is something to see both your parents cry when they get to go back home, see your siblings for the first time in years, and be surrounded by people that speak the same language you do. idk, not entirely related to this video but i just wanted to give some insight on how America colonized the Philippines and now imports that labor back into the States

@CL0WNP4RTY4 ай бұрын
I don’t even think it’s the age that disgusts me about this, it’s the fact that the way they met was so predatory (he clearly went to the Philippines to find a younger woman) and then drug her to America away from everyone she knows and loves and essentially destroyed her entire life for him, a guy who will probably die in a dozen years or so later. It’s selfish and disgusting and clearly shows he never had her best interest in mind if he didn’t even bother finding a way for her family to visit for the marriage.

2:12 fun fact: the upper classes/royalty did use spices for a while, but when it became more accessible to lower classes, they decided to change the trend and make it cool and popular to not use spices. Which leads us to some British cuisine consumed today :)

I was in a relationship like this (16 & 32) for 3 years. Part of what lead me into this relationship so young was that it didn’t feel like I was talking to a 30 year old, it felt like I was talking to a 16 year old. Issue was, as I got older and more developed and mature, he stayed 16. I was 19 years old, and it felt like I was dating a 16 year old and I got so fed up that I left. Women his age dont want him because he had the emotional maturity of a 20 year old. She’s going to get older, he’s not.

Relationships with _some_ age gap can even be healthy (entirely not this case), the problem is the normalisation of it. As Cooper said, it most certainly comes with power dynamics, exploitation of the younger part, usually the woman, and as we often see it can lead to so many psychological problems afterwards
@ellielou52 Жыл бұрын
I think if they're both over 30 and less than 20 years apart, ya whatever it COULD be healthy. As someone who dated a 28 year old when I was 18, I can personally attest to how unequal, abusive and manipulative that relationship was, and some of that was just built in even if he didn't go out of his way to be awful because of the age gap and the difference in life experience, previous relationship baggage, and just the KNOWLEDGE of the age gap itself. Oh and the way other ppl treated us and our relationship.
@winxclubstellamusa Жыл бұрын
It’s healthy when it’s between EQUALS, not when it’s like this!! A 30 year old can healthily be with a 45 year old, while a teenager absolutely can not be. The proportion of the age gap is of imperative importance.

I was a sugar baby for a few months when I was 20 and it’s really common on sugar baby dating sites/apps that the women have pictures and the men don’t have to share any pictures. They just have their job and their net-worth lmao. I no longer do any of that stuff but I only ever had one SD. At the time I could see myself marrying him tbh. In my defense, he was only 38 and in GREAT shape and treated me with a lot of respect given the circumstances. Been out of it for a few years now and I was just so miserable in my life that it did feel like he could be good to me when no one else would. So glad life isn’t like that for me anymore and I respect women surviving

Why did you decide to become a sugar baby if you don't mind me asking? By the way my sister was a sex worker we would get in arguments all the time over it and would brag about how much money she was making.
@greenbeansnthings Жыл бұрын
@@Sagefrakrobatik I don’t mind lol the specific thing that made me like actually go through w it was that I had really really liked this guy. he loved bombed me and then just ghosted me after we spent like 3 days straight together. I was really hurt and pissed off that this kind of thing kept happening to me. I thought, if I was going to keep being used to bolster some man’s ego then I should at least get something out of it. Plus, I have borderline personality disorder (in treatments, getting better) and I felt abandoned so it was nice that this man wanted me, specifically, in his life that much. It was a little reckless of a behavior but it felt somehow emotionally safe. I liked having someone that at the very least was consistent. Then when i was able to move out on my own, the money became more important to me. It was nice having spending money, being able to not just survive but treat myself a little. It was the sense of security it gave me, emotionally and financially. I really only did it for about 6 months before it stopped and I got an income tax job and a real boyfriend. Though, I don’t really regret it, the man I was seeing was actually really respectful. He let me take things in my own time and spoke to me as an intellectual equal

@@greenbeansnthings the thing is I'm 38 as well, and i cold approach women as much as I can. If she rejects me that's fine. But I'm not gonna miss an opportunity simply because she looks like she is in her 20s. I've approached two women that were both 18, when they told me I said thanks and moved on. It's hard enough getting confident to approach women in the first place. Age isn't important for me. The last woman I dated was 46.

@@Sagefrakrobatik please stop "cold-approaching" women, especially women you think are in their early 20s if you're 38. Women do not exist in the world in order to be picked up by you, they are going about their lives. It's annoying at best and actually scary at worst.

Rule of Thumb: if someone significantly older than you takes a romantic interest in you, even if you are of legal age, RUN AWAY. Ask yourself why they can't connect with someone their own age and RUN AWAY. I know that healthy age gap relationships can happen but 9 times out of 10, they're not healthy at all.
@danhumphrey8357 Жыл бұрын
I agree. A person is more likely to have more in common with their age range, so why can’t they pull? I’ve never seen an authentic large age gap, and I will firmly stand on being a hating btch when it comes to them.
@fentina Жыл бұрын
I mean, there's meeting someone with a significant age gap naturally, through work or clubs etc But anything else (dating app, meeting at a youth hang out etc) means they specifically looked for someone that age. That's a red flag. (Also, obviously there's a difference between a 20 + 40 year old dating and a 40 + 60 year old dating)

I would add that : if you are in school and they are an adult / divorced or completely established with their life then they 100% want to control you , and are only looking to date you cause you are young (they chose you solely for that and that alone)

I’m 37 and met a guy in his 50s a couple years ago that I was into, until he told me he was arrested for getting involved with an 18 year old because he worked at the high school she went to when he was 45. So gross. In my state, if you work in an academic setting, you’re not allowed to be romantically involved with anyone under 22, I believe it is.

Something I want to point out that my boyfriend shared with me is that in the Philippines Starbucks is considered a luxury…so…yeah..adds to why she went there😭😭 these girls are just getting taken advantage of. Also for those people feeling bad for her family, they probably pushed her to go with him. My boyfriends family is Filipino and a lot of my friends are Filipino. I personally worked with a coworker who is Filipino and got sold to a white man she didn’t love by her family…this is more common than you think and this is their reality

I'm in the US in the south and we consider Starbucks a fair bit of a luxury though lol A better gage for how impoverished they are, when considering we have severe poverty in the US, is that even 100USD would make all the difference for most families there, whereas here it's only some groceries or a tank of gas.
