Because dammit women are beautiful lol. Two other things. Hearing him speak on depression is very affirming. I have depression and am in the mental health industry. It's so important to have support. And if you don't have it in your life, hearing it feels great. Also...does this Captain dude think UV rays = vitamin D? Maybe he thinks you can't soak up vitamin d through sunscreen? I'm so confused. It's a great tool for use in our depression toolboxes. But... Not in place of psychopharmacology or therapy. Geez this guy... edit if this is addressed later I apologize. See on one hand I totally understand this comment, but on the other I also do understand the people saying it. (When they're not saying it to the extent of the dude in this video 😭) My dad was someone who would say this a lot and at least from my perspective it wasn't him trying to tell me if I went outside I'd instantly feel better, what a lot of people are trying to say is that getting out of bed is the first step. The sun isn't going to fix everything but getting out of bed and going outside takes so much effort that if you bring yourself to do it the fog could get just a little lighter and you could feel just a little better than before you did that day. I'm just typing this because as a kid I definitely misconstrued why my dad was saying that and the message he did mean. Because I would just lay there and tell him he was wrong going outside wouldn't fix anything, and we were both right. It won't FIX anything, but if you have enough motivation to go outside that day take it. Even if it's just to make that day just a little different than yesterday, when the days are blurring together that can help. It can be really hard for people to word themselves correctly around these types of topics, but at least sometimes this comment can come from a place of genuine care. But it really does make you feel like shit when it's worded wrong😭

Or maybe it’s because they don’t understand that these issues can require lifelong treatment. I suffer with clinical depression. My episodes are debilitating and usually last months (my longest one lasting over a year). When I’m in this state I am extremely prone to breakdowns, intense mood swings, lethargy, an inability to take care of myself, and doom filled thought patterns. Sometimes I will get out of bed and do small things to make myself feel a little bit better, like go for a walk or play with my dog or talk to a friend or sit outside for a bit. But some days, I cannot physically muster up the energy or will power to walk the length of my bedroom let alone go outside or exercise. He’s right, those things do help, but depression leaves you unable to do the things that will help you a lot of the time. That doesn’t make us weak or incapable. You wouldn’t tell someone with the flu that a lemsip will entirely cure their flu. It soothes it momentarily but it isn’t a cure. Thank you cooper for being so understanding about those struggling with depressive disorders like myself. And to anyone suffering right now, remember that you’ve been here before and you got thru it, it’s so ungodly difficult but we’ll make it thru eventually. You’re not alone, even tho that sentence can feel so condescending sometimes when you’re in the thick of it.

I had to argue for months of my pregnancy as to why that wasn't something I accepted or agreed with, but he was never going to hear me out. Granted, I appreciate that it lead me to do a lot of my own research and learn about the science of it as well as some risks. However, it goes without saying that vaccination was OVERWHELMINGLY evident as the right choice. Regardless of his indiscretion, I was the one taking my kid to his doctors appointments and getting him the vaccines he deserved to receive. @@emila9899 incoming! too long, too parasocial: good luck good luck!!! and if this psychiatrist isn't making you feel safe and secure - find another one! seeking out mental health treatment is the biggest indicator that you really do love yourself btw, so never let anyone tell you that you're choosing to be depressed. you choose life and joy every day just by continuing to exist and seek help. you don't know it yet maybe, but deep down, you love yourself and you're already acting on that feeling. sincerely, someone who's been through way too many psychiatrists. someone who had to advocate just to get therapy when i was very clearly struggling as a child. i just needed someone who would not try to judge me for being honest with them and could actually help me [whether that means medication or therapy is up to you! i been on the combo train lol so i like em both] ps don't be afraid to try alternatives to psychiatrists. the person who prescribes me my psych meds is actually just an MD, not a registered psychiatrist. but she has been more helpful than any psychiatrist i ever had. i was referred to her by a local psychiatrist who was willing to be honest about her inability to prescribe meds for adhd, and i'm very grateful for her honesty. (i hope the best for your appointment!! not every psychiatrist is a mess, not at all. i'm just going a weird route, cause my mental illnesses were actually making me Physically Sick and i live in a state with prescription abuse issues, so i guess my prescriptions need to be heavily monitored or something, i dont know the fax, and i honestly don't care now that i'm actually being treated. i really really hope your psychiatrist is the right fit for you)

As a person who grew up hating medication because they misdiagnosed me or never cared to change my medication when I was having serious cases of psychosis and genuinely beleiving I was talking to another person in my head, I also was highly on the edge about medication. But ya know what? I finally stood up for myself and looked for someone who genuinely wanted to try and look for what would work and eventually we found a way to tackle my depression with a mix of medication and other forms of self help or treatment in general. I would be dead if not for the things I was able to find to help me, INCLUDING MEDICATION. It isnt supposed to be the cure, its supposed to just help boost you in the right direction. Cus not everybody's bodies can even function without help. These people are sickening to me because they encourage people young and impressionable to not trust any form of medication and to fight it on their own. There is a fucking reason why more men with depression end up taking their lives, because they have these kinds of rolemodels that tell them to suck it up till eventually they think "If this is how life is, then fuck living" As a woman, even I was effected by this and it didnt even feel like they were ever pressing that mentally down my throat personally so its just horrible to keep perpetuating that people need to suck it up. Youll never understand depression till you have it, and I dont blame you for not understanding it, but since you dont you shouldnt tell people who are that how to live. Meds are definitely an important asset for helping many mental illnesses, but they’re so overprescribed nowadays. It seems to be the end all be all for a lot of people but it’s not always the only answer. The guy in the video is a bit extreme but he makes a good point. Natural remedies can be very effective in treating all sorts of illnesses and diseases. Exposure to sunlight is unbelievably important to both our mental and physical health. Now spending all day in the sun is gonna come with some problems for sure but short stints of exposed sunlight can improve mental health. We get vitamin D from sunlight exposure which is a crucial vitamin for your mental well-being. 20-30 minutes of sunlight exposure a day will give you a healthy level of vitamin D that will most likely have a positive effect on your mood. Again, I’m not anti meds or anything, im just saying this because the comments seem to think that sunlight= bad and meds are the only option, which isn’t true. Sunlight and vitamin D are so very important to our wellbeing, especially now where the majority of humans are severely vitamin D deficient. Yeah the guys a bit extreme with it, but so are the people saying that meds are the only thing that help treat depression, which is an unhealthy way to look at it. Meds and sunlight exposure can be used in conjunction with each other to help depression, so don’t rely on only meds

I cant even count the amount of times people who really wanted to be helpful and nice told me that i should just go to the gym, go outside, just relax a while,... I get that often it comes from a good place but its so incredibly damaging and it makes my self worth so much lower when i cant do these things because I'm depressed and its hard to even shower. Being in that state and then you have people telling you "hey, if you just do sports you'll be healthy again" just makes you feel like "okay so if i would do this thing thats not that hard normally i would be cured, but I'm not doing it so my depression is my own fault". And thats not even factoring in that Sports is not the cure for depression.

its really refreshing to watch your videos and know that despite insane lives of the people that you're commenting on, you never really insult them or make fun of their physical appearance. your input on these stories comes from almost a journalism approach rather than an angry watcher. especially when it comes to the women that you cover, you always make a point of complimenting them and never tearing them down just because they have a different life path. thank you.

as someone who struggled with Anxiety and Depression most of my life (started at 12ish) and didn't start medication until earlyier this year (I'm 20) and my life has gotten 100X better. I went form nightly panic attacks to rarely feeling any anxiety at all in like a week.

Thank you for acknowledging the difference between depressive episodes/seasonal depression and clinical depression because when people mix them up it's not cool especially when they get mad about being corrected by someone diagnosed with clinical depression.

I have depression and I take pills AND go outside. Double time baby 😎 But seriously, I pop in earbuds and climb a tree and it makes me feel good.
