That was at Redbull Rampage. The other riders didn't do their final run out of respect. I've a feeling he made a recovery but I've forgotten now.

Honestly, when I first saw this, the impact looked like he would've simply had some minor damage on his back and legs. To find out something that innocent looking nearly paralyzed him was truly shocking to me. I'm glad he's making a recovery \m/

It’s actually the crashes that look ok to the viewers, are the worst impacts for the riders. When you just come to a stop like he did, the force on your body is immense. On the crashes where they just keep rolling for ages, they are able to gradually lose kinetic energy, dampening the impact

I'm aghast that people could make such comments about a sport they obviously know nothing about. Extreme mountain biking is a serious sport that individuals take part in to show how far they can push their own limits and the limits of their machine to do something amazing! This is not unlike pushing the limits of skiing in "Olympic Ski Jumping" in order to show how much further they can jump than other competitors. We, as humans, push the limitations of our own abilities in many sports, so for a few to make unjust claims against this sport is simply inane and close minded.

When I was 16, 20+ yrs ago I wanted to race DH, I saw a dude being folded in half the wrong way on a tree. Next run I crashed and pulled the leg out of my socket. I took it as a sign, never competed again in DH or trials...

Seems like it right? The desire to win and the NEED to win are fueled by different propulsions. Sad because nothing and no one will probably ever be good enough. Which is also why this accident may have happened. To help this guy re-align his priorities and not feel the need to push to the exact limit in order to feel validated, loved, complete or any other word that fits.

Actually, only 3 years after the crash he was able to walk again, and now, he also can use his bike (ofc not the way he did it before, but it's amazing what he did for his life)
