Yes, British dreadnoughts were overloaded with ammunition and their propellant charges, because they feared to run out of ammunition in a long firefight. The ships were so heavily armored that the admiralty thought the fight could last for hours. Outnumbering the Germans in the initial encounter, 2 of them (HMS Indefatigable and HMS Queen Mary) blew up minutes into the battle in chain reactions of exploding ammunition charges. Having seen that, one of the hight ranked officer (in a mix of desperation and confusion) said the quote. In case anyone was interested. The overloading of powder and shells the lack of safety aspect of the handling of the powder. Blast doors etc not being properly used. Topped with poor gunnery skill because they liked clean boats n nothing messes up the paint more than firing guns. Also combining fire from multiple ships on a single target makes adjusting fire more difficult because who knows who fired what shells. Good stuff

You're right in that the battlecruisers Scharnhorst and Gneisenau were used on convoy raiding duties. If I'm not mistaken they refused to engage an old R class battleship which they almost certainly out ranged, and allowed an armed merchant ship to hold them up while the convoy it was escorting ran away. Not a great return on investment.

I'm sure I'm not the first to post this, but... The Battle of Jutland... After two battlecruisers were sunk, rather explosively so, in relatively short order, Admiral Beatty turned to his flag captain and said "There's something wrong with our bloody ships today." It is among many sayings that are quintessentially British. It's one of my favorites of the British Military. Another that I love is of Vice Admiral Cunningham, when Crete went sideways and the Royal Navy came to the aid of the Royal Army: “It takes three years to build a ship; it takes three centuries to build a tradition.” Interservice rivalries are fine, pissing matches are fine, but you don't let your brothers in arms down, no matter their branch, no matter their uniform.

Admiral Beatty's WW1 battlecruisers blowing up at Jutland. Beatty was stationed at Rosyth and didn't have gunnery practice like scappa flow and so focussed on rate of fire. This included leaving flash doors open to speed ammo from magazines with the effect that when hit explosions touched off the magazines blowing the ships to pieces.

Fighting the Soviets is basically just that. Encircling divisions to and seeing them slowly deteriorate over time after continuous attacks time after time. Another way to inflict attrition is to have the AI shove fifty divisions on such small areas and watch them earn attrition by murdering their own supply lines.

Did you realize that 100 planes in an air wing is actually the smallest bonus? Any wing size over 100 gets the minimum bonus. Maximum bonus is achieved with air wings of 10 or fewer. At 10 planes per wing, ace bonus is multiplied by 10x. You can do the same battlecruiser raiding much more efficiently. Spotter plane 2 make your ships harder to detect because detection is calculated as enemy detection - 80% of your detection. The slight reduction in speed barely matters and your detection checks will go much better. The best surface raiders at the moment are light cruisers with 3 spotter planes and 3 light cruiser battery 2s. You can replace one battery with a depth charge and fire control 0 with sonar to make this design deal with subs as well. No secondaries at all because they reduce speed and light attack piercing. They have far better visibility/speed and thus lower ship hit profile compared to BCs. BCs are only useful against AI.

Think this references the sinking of the HMS Hood which was the pride of the fleet for the Royal Navy at the start of the war but the Hoods capabilities had been restricted by the London naval treaties. Also thanks for liking this feedback you make some quality videos

Easiest way is to play as Germany and never declare any wars. Just boost Ideology in as many nations as you can at the same time. Japan will declare wars on the allies and probably lose, Soviets will eventually declare war on either you or the allies, so be ready for that. Honestly the biggest threat in this strategy is boredom.

NSB made this strategy even better, Trade Interdiction unlocks a navy spirit that adds a flat 20% screening value if you only have capital ships in a battle, giving you some bonus hit chance and a little bit of torpedo protection. Also gives retreat decision chance. Pair that with blockade runner which Trade Interdiction also has a navy spirit for to get it more easily, and the smoke screen expert trait, you can stack mad values for retreat decision chance. Your battlecruisers will be impossible to catch.

Replying to every comment? That's dedication. Subscribed! Edit: Also, around 14:00 you mentioned naval bombers being bad at killing anything with air defense. I've found that combining a navy and set of bombers in one region, the ships will do a significant amount of damage to an enemy fleet, and the naval bombers will catch them as they try to escape on low health and destroy them easily.

My guess would be on Japan(somewhat challenging, is free to join any faction and go any path, lots of decisions and focuses), Hungary and Romania. England and USA are boring, Germany is done to death, USSR is done to death and still has vanilla focus tree, Italy has vanilla focus tree, France is rather mediocre, Yugoslavia for some reason is rather meh plus breaks the whole game if it resists, Poland is simply too OP because catering to modern polish nationalism sells, China forces you to be too focused on conflict you expect every time, same for Commonwealth nations. No idea on Mexico and Netherlands. So far Japan has best combination of focuses, mechanics, decisions and events to keep you sane through few hours of the game. Hopefully USSR and Italy will get rework and get the same. And after that hopefully we'll get regional focus trees for minors ie the ones like shared chinese diplomatic and business related one.

Huh. I like the US because your massive industry will let you experience Air, Tank, Land and Naval combat. But being more forgiving than the UK. I play the soviet union if I want play land combat. And finally I play in China/Mancuria or non-aligned Hungary if I want to do something else than WW2.

TheArklyte, Japan is easiest country to make world conquest, they have strongest navy, pretty good army, and ability to conquer USA in 1937 taking all of their industry
