No gentle act of kindness goes unpunished . I must have been a large land or sea mammal at one time too. Beethoven forever. Have you ever thought about leaving a huge drum and sticks out and see what happens? Love what you do. Play on... First one comes, spreads the word and they all show up. How can anyone argue with that?

If the elephants feel abused or hurt by the piano playing, then they would run away from you, not towards you. I’ve watched several of your videos and clearly the elephants walk closer to you when you play. Some even feel curious enough to touch the piano and play a few keys themselves. This clearly suggests that the animals are enjoying the encounter. Please keep the wonderful work you’re doing.

Criticism has its place. Dealt with in all humility it is constructive. Ms. Koch obviously has had many experiences that showed her the extent of human cruelty. She looks for the smallest hints, the better to stop such things. Such dedication has, perhaps, altered her POV to the degree that it's all she sees. I encourage her to take in as many eye witness experiences as possible...to see for herself that ALL humans are not so wicked. Some love unselfishly and dedicate their lives to giving. Paul's response to Ms.Koch was very kind. My hope is that she will be relieved to find loving care givers do exist. Everywhere. In all facets of life.

It’s probably the best response to someone who just throws uneducated spiteful accusations. Some folks have a hard time believing there are decent humans out there who share their talents and give to those in need selflessly.. and without expecting anything in return. The gift of music is one of the best gifts of all, and should be shared with humans and animals alike. If her agenda is to self soothe by sabotaging others, her problem runs deep within herself. Thank you for opening up and showing transparency. “As an antidote to battle unkindness we were given kindness.” Marcus Aurelius

I think I'll take the word of the experienced rescued elephant caretakers, who saw the elephants respond to the music, over that of Iris! Also I will trust my own eyes ears and heart which all responded when I began to see Paul's videos. After the lives of pain and loneliness that the elephants have suffered through, to see them respond by relaxing, or trumpeting, or squeaking, laying down in the river, or like Peter the elephant, playing the blues, it is a beautiful thing that Paul's done,

In a way, I’m glad that Iris Koch wrote that erroneous blog…because now we get to see in-depth, your beautiful work with these magnificent elephants. They are truly soulful and sentient beings. I’m very glad you responded to her misguided and misleading accusations with this beautiful video. I was also deeply moved by Natsuyo Jaeko - hearing her speak and watching her kindness was a stark contrast to the vile accusations made by Iris. Rest in peace Natsuyo-I wish I had the opportunity to know you. Lately, in a world populated by extremists and hostile, misguided people like Iris Koch, I’m reminded of this… “Beware that, when fighting monsters, you yourself do not become a monster... for when you gaze long into the abyss, the abyss gazes also into you.”-Friedrich Nietzsche. Many “activists” who once had good intentions, have become the monsters. Thank you Mr. Barton, and for your lovely wife and daughter, for all that you do! ❤

Thank you, Paul, for putting so much effort into extending compassionate grace to a person who clearly suffers from great bitterness. Whatever the cause of her own poisonous animosity, you have taken the time to show her, and the world, the truth. You have repaid injury with kindness. Thank you for leading by example. Perhaps she will change. Perhaps she will not. Bitter people will always be with us. But at least you know you have not succumbed to the same hurtful and acidic behavior. You have stood up for the truth without hurting anyone in return. Bless you, Paul.

You bring the experience through your videos and I appreciate it greatly. I'm sad of the darker stories of what has and still happens to them, experiencing harsh cruelty, but I love all the people who show and have compassion for them. Thank you for doing what you do. What a pity that you were compelled to take precious time to assemble evidence against Koch's groundless and slanderous charges. This video is as reasoned, measured, and gracious a refutation as I have ever seen. Your intentions are clear, your hard work and generosity have been offered unconditionally, and the elephants' spontaneous and positive response speaks for itself. I am deeply moved by how the music cheers, engages, and calms these magnificent animals -- and by the astonishing effects of music on many species. My life would be empty without music. Thank you for enriching the lives of these elephants and for demonstrating to the world the potential of music and the spirit of appreciation in nonhuman creatures. Sending my best wishes.

Paul- you are MY HERO! Kind, gentle souls can be deeply wounded by malevolent, taker-type people. I have not read comments from this video yet but I’ll bet you have 99% opinions much like mine. The fact that sad, angry, upset people want to pull you down a ring or two is the small minority. And as much as I like the wonderful things you share on KZbin - I will ALWAYS prefer hearing sweet Emilie sing or play over even your well trained classical fibers and ear. You two are quite the team.

This video has sliced me up and helped me focus on what I always wanted to do for a living as a kid. Never bury your vision of what the world should be. We have to work for wildlife and sharing our emotions with it. We're born on the same ground, and if we feel like we're the top of the ''chain'' we must use our position to save and live with animals, it's our duty. Protect and carry them. Paul Barton, i wish you the best and hope i'll be part of it someday for the rest of my life.

I've been following since before you showed yourself playing to elephants, and I knew it was a fake accusation from the start. I'm glad to see you taking it positively and I hope it didn't bother you too much. This is far worse than slander. Slander is somebody SPEAKING lies about you. This is LIBEL! Libel is when someone says lies about you in WRITING! It does far deeper and longer lasting hurt and damage to a person whose reputation has been lied about! I think that people libel others out of hatred and malice! It is evil! Unfortunately, we are living in an age of those deceiving and being deceived, and propaganda is rampant. Even the fact checkers aren’t really fact checkers at all! And unfortunately, even if she repented of her actions and printed a retraction, people won’t remember that. They will remember the lies that she told initially. All journalists learn this. They feel free to lie to get sensational headlines, because they know that this what people remember, not the correction or retraction days later! I pray that everybody will rise up and defend Paul, and I hope that she will receive an avalanche of “shame on you!” Responses! Oh dear! I really hate editing my comments, I like leaving them as they stand, but I neglected to say how much I love Paul and wife and their daughter Emile, and watching him play for the elephants and creating paintings, and he inches daughter reading stories and creating stories and it’s just so uplifting to watch. To think that anybody would attack Paul and family is insane!

@@carolynnunes3922 Far from correcting her defamatory lies, Iris' response was to double down on the misinformation she is attempting to spread. Instead of admitting she was wrong when she claimed these videos were made to make money somehow, she linked to videos of animals being abused - not by Paul or anyone at Elephants World. I get it. The more outrage she can work up in her readers, the more likely they will be to donate to her organization. Very sad.

Anyone who has seriously worked with and observed animals, know that music does "Soothe the savage beast". Music is played in stables, milk parlours, etc. We left a radio on for our German Shepherd in our commercial greenhouse. Today, we can settle our Gordon setter's nightly rip, by playing a Leonard Cohen CD, which puts her immediately to sleep. There are new communication networks opening as brain damaged people can communicate with both parties singing, where talking part of the brain no longer processes. The Canadian pianist, Glen Gould used to sing to the Elephants at the Toronto zoo. Last question... Why do animals sing, whistle , howl, tweet together in constant melodies?
