LS Swaps have come a long ways in the past 20 years and the power that they can bring is hard to beat! That being said, there are some special cars out there that just shouldn't be modified.

It is what it is. The hoops we see kids jump through to drop them into the damnedest vehicles.. Like an old Jaguar, a Datsun/Nissan Z car, a BMW etc. They have a vision, don't just talk about it, THEY MAKE IT HAPPEN. A turbo or two is a given. I respect that. On the flip side of the coin, for me? Its much more appealing to me seeing someone pull 400 streetable horse out of say... A 305 on a low budget.

3 reasons for me not to LS-swap: First you can't hear the secondaries in the carburtor roar when you smash the throttle. Unless you do a carburetor conversion, of course. The second reason is all that electrical/wire nightmare. Too mindbottling for me. The third reason is the car will loose it quirkiness. Even though the LS is a "Buick" engine, I'd rather have the quirks of a carbureted 401 nailhead and a Buick 455

People dont talk about the Transmission swap guys either. I have a TH400 in my 78 T/A and I want to put a Muncie M22 in it, people tell me "oh why dont you 5 or 6 speed swap it" and I tell them because its a car from 1978 so I want it to feel like a car from 1978. I have no problem with Ls swaps or modern transmission swaps like you said, but these people need to know that theres nothing wrong for a classic car to look and feel like a classic car.

I completely agree, that's how I want this car to feel when I drive it, they way they used to. About the Muncie tho, unless your engine is packing one hell of a punch and you have 4:10s out back, stay away from m22 and m21s Those are close ratio Muncies and are a bastard to get moving out of the hole. If it's a street car with mild power, I'd 100% recommend an m20 wide ratio.

The problem is the fact that they are rare. Otherwise a modded 5.9 Cummins would be interesting too.

Counterpoint; we are rebuilding a basket case 67 GTO convertible. Original engine long gone, currently has a blown up 455. This will be a mostly daily driver. We will be using a cammed na 5.3 or 6.0, na. We have a budget, have floors, top, and interior to replace, brakes to upgrade, and ac will be a priority due to tx heat. We have the engines, and even if not, ls's are cheap. We do not currently plan on adding boost due to projected power levels already will be in the fun to drive range, but being a convertible, shouldn't twist the car too hard. Will it be the most exciting car at the cruise? Maybe not, but it will be a 67 gto that is being driven regularly, and that is cool on its own. Finding a correct year 400 and rebuilding it would wreck the budget for no real reason, and add time we don't really care to spend, as we'd rather drive it. Love the channel, you already know I'm jealous of your collection. Just pointing out every car and build has its own story, and an na ls swap into an icon is better than the icon rotting in a field. For reliability, i wont argue, i DD a 69 delta 88 with original 455/th400, and it just works. Don’t love the drums in heavy traffic, but...😂

yeah i understand what youre doing man, its something that will be used a lot and you want to use the car without breaking the bank. it is a GTO but its not a specialty one ya know. the sacrilege would be LSing a hurst olds, Judge, GSX etc. im not a G body guy at all, but i do like the 86 2+2 pontiacs. i seen at carlisle somebody had one with an LS and i said to my self, good, you did the right thing. hell, replace the points with an HEI on that olds along with a timing chain set and it will go forever lol.

@@reaper_cvpi for cheap, I'd get a junk yard 350 with an aftermarket set of heads plus a quick refresh on bearings and gaskets. On the other hand, there is more than enough info out there on FB pages to do an LS on them.
