Which is a better more cost efficient engine build. A small block turbocharger Chevy. Or a junkyard LS turbocharger. I'm guessing that engine swaps would be similar cost wise. Although transmission compatibility would probably be more difficult with the small block chevy, when compared to LS transmission compatibility. Thanks for any advice.

It really depends on how much you can do yourself. If you can modify a basic 750 Holley to be blow through, then a turbo sbc could be done really cheap. But, if that's something you have to buy then those aren't cheap. Even used, they're still like $5-800, and if you end up changing intake, distributors, heads, etc then it would be more cost effective to use a stock 5.3 to make the same power a 350 with vortec heads, decent intake and carb and a distributor. And then you'd have to get something like a MSD BTM box for the timing control if you're going to make more than like 5-7psi of boost. At that point it almost becomes cheaper to get a stock 5.3 and a Holley Terminator X. Most of the rest of the costs cancel out, headers, turbo, wastegate, etc its all stuff you'd buy either way, you know?

Alot of people low ball it saying that engine builds are really simple and them come back and say oh yeah you would still need to buy this, that, and the other and then take it to a machine shop and a tuner to make sure that everything works correctly.

I built my 427 60 over=439 big block for 4500 Ross 12.5.1 pistons Eagle H Beam rods Steel crank GM snowflake BowTie aluminum heads Victor Jr 454 R intake 950cfm brawler caeb Jegs distributor comp cams solid lift cam & run 7.0 / 6.90s on motor in the 1/8th. I have a 150 shot on it now but haven't made it to the track yet so no clue what it's gonna run on spray.

That money was for EVERY. SINGLE. DIME. spent on that complete setup including fuel system. Initial purchase, main bearings, rod bearings, cam bearings, had to replace the crank, cam, springs, lifters, rods, pistons, rings, valves, seals, gaskets, buying the heads, machine work on the block, having the cam bearings installed, having the head work done, buying the tunnel ram, the cost of the dyno, the cost of a jet kit for the carbs, plugs, wires, msd pro billet distributor, msd digital 6al box, headers, materials to make the exhausts, nitrous jets, fittings for the nitrous kit, spark plugs, cost of the dyno sessions, everything. Could it have been done cheaper? Obviously, yeah. But when you've got judgemental know-it-alls in the comments telling you everything you need to do or everything you're doing wrong, you get to a point where you just want to do what they say so when it doesn't work you can be like "See? I did what you said to do and here we are." So thats why Pops ended up doing a ton of extra sruff to it, because he would read the comments and be like "So-So said we're dumb f-ing idiots if we don't have the heads gone through. Maybe he's right?" "This guy commented saying we need to increase compression to make it worth a shit with that intake. Maybe we should get big forged pistons?" And then he spends f-ing $800 on forged domed pistons from ICON or whoever it was. All that motor needed was fresh bearings and good heads and intake and a 150-200 shot. Not saying you guys are like that, I'm just lashing out on this comment lol sometimes comments really piss me off, man

Being a blue oval tragic from Aus. 🇦🇺 I love my ol' Clevo V8's and of course boosted inline 6's. We don't see that engine here so my knowledge of them comes mainly from Richard Holdener and Nivlac57 and they seem like a stout bit of gear. I think much like our Barra and previous generation 6's, with more development from those leading the charge and better aftermarket support it's gonna make for one hell of a platform.
