I set up my watch yesterday and after researching and talking to someone on Apple support. I worked out messages only comes through when phone is locked although the Apple support said they should come throu when unlocked as well. Haven’t fixed it yet. (I have the series SE version 2)

I came here because I did get notifications, but they wouldn’t tap my wrist, so I would miss them. Turns out, I had to enable the ”Sounds” toggle on that first settings screen you showed, and when the watch is on mute, it will tap me.
