I bought 120 2015 1 oz kookaburras (6 rolls) at Provident and did an experiment over the last year selling them on ebay. My actual results showed it wasn't profitable to buy them for a flip. I had to sell them one at a time because that's what most collectors want to buy. I made about $1 per coin profit and it took more than a year to sell them all on ebay. One of the problems is there are dozens of other sellers selling the same coin since 500K were minted.

Nice video presentation Silver Slacker! I was looking at my stack inventory today and after I year of stacking I am up 33% on average with everything I have purchased. I say that because I totally agree with your strategy of buying silver in the right form (limited is a requirement) and at the right price. That is when your future profit is made if you buy with built in equity! Keep on stacking smart! :-)

The interesting thing would be the cost on ebay at the same time as you bought them. To some extent you are measuring your clever buying through the right channels rather than the increase in value.
@TheSilverSlacker9 жыл бұрын
+Numistacker Well out of all of those I bought the 5 oz Libertads on eBay so that was an eBay price. I also just purchased a bunch of the 1/2 oz Goats a few days ago off eBay for cheaper than I bought those horses and for cheaper than any of the bullion dealers that are selling them. ($11 each before all the discounts you can get on ebay!) They are $11.80 now, but still cheaper than bullion dealers for the goats: www.ebay.com/itm/331633474843?

I personally don't like limited coins, but more power to you. The reason why I don't like these kinds of coins is because the limited mintages are used as a selling point. How ever after watching this vid I might start buying semi numismatics. Have you seen the mintages of fractional gold libertads? A lot of them are under 400 but are super cheap on eBay. Great vid! Hopefully I won't be burned at the stake for saying I don't like seminumismatics. Lol great vid!

Great job on stacking.. I sold a huge stack back before the last dip and getting back into stacking again. Knowing the markets is key and understanding the premiums on numis. Although I use to sell numis on ebay as a power seller I honestly got sick of the ebay fees and the time involved taking away profits. I guess after you factor in the fees it really eats into the profits unless its something like my favorite which was the 2010 lunar 2 tigers. I remember buying em for like 18-20$! Wish I woulda bought more. Don't get me wrong I've done what you're doing and still think numi coins are great to stack when you can buy em low. I've just found its best to stick with stacking weight mostly.
@TheSilverSlacker9 жыл бұрын

Another good topic for a video. Thanks for doing it. The facts are there for everyone to see. Those are pretty impressive numbers and that's with the spot price dropping significantly. Show me returns like that on any other investment in that kind of time frame. Did you have anything that bombed or didn't do well? It'll be interesting to see how many people choose to ignore that you are not saying this is what you could sell them for but that this is what it would cost someone to buy them on Ebay. It's kind of important because this is the point. For myself I really don't have a market to sell the high premium stuff here. Besides to be totally honest I'm not willing to put the time in to keep track of the true values and then sell them properly. The Ebay market is also quite different here in Canada. I only buy the low premium 1oz government issue stuff because I know I can sell it. But I totally understand why someone would buy lower mintage stuff to sell a couple of years down the line. There are a number of stackers on youtube who do this quite successfully I think.
@TheSilverSlacker9 жыл бұрын
+Fiat2 Bullion Thanks for the kind words. I showed everything that I bought for flipping purposes in the 6 month to a year timeframe. @pauldailey44779 жыл бұрын
This sound more like numismatics than silver as a precious metal. I suppose everyone here knows that...but buying and selling silver with these premiums sounds quite risky to me. I want to hear how much you can sell and how many hours of dedicated time it takes to sell.
@MarvelousCards9 жыл бұрын
+Paul Dailey Yes. After calculating the fees on ebay and the time to ship and everything else the profits is kind of an illusion. I did see many profits but you're right it takes up a lot of time you could be doing other things to bring in money. I had a HUGE kookaburra collection I accumulated like 300 ounces of rare 2 ouncers and proofs but flipped em into more weight then sold before the last dip. I remember becoming too passionate about collecting and forgot about investing. I've learned its good to collect some numismatics but don't get to carried away or you will become blinded by the beauty of the coins and forget its about weight when it comes down to it. Don't get me wrong though.. I miss my kooks and lunars sometimes. Just now getting back into stacking since about 2013 and focusing on weight again.
@Keysforjourney8 жыл бұрын
+Paul Dailey there is no value even selling this, he loses money and he bought it 2 years ago, the price hasn't changed. There are sellers, no buyers.

Hey Silver Slacker, I am looking to purchase a large order of silver within a couple of days and was debating between rounds and bars. What would you recommend? I am leaning towards bars since they command a lesser premium than rounds but I wanted a second opinion. Again great videos! Keep them Coming!
@TheSilverSlacker9 жыл бұрын
+Abe A Abe well that would all depend on what your goal is. If you plan to hold silver for a very long time and want to get as many ounces as possible then yeah whatever is the lowest premium stuff you can get. But if you have a shorter timeframe like 5 years or less than you may want to consider some stuff like the coins I showed. But just realize coins like these would have to be sold on eBay and would take some time to sell. If you are leaning toward the coins I will be putting out a video tomorrow on what coins I am interested in buying.

Nice video. I really do try to avoid ebay these days. I tend to have a love/ hate relationship with that thing. All my purchases are Singapore, Estonia and Germany. @chekoz779 жыл бұрын
I know this video is older but this logic for determining value is off and I will show you why. You can't use Ebay to determine value unless you add in the Ebay, Paypal and shipping fees. If a coin sells for $18.84 you loose $2.73 just in fees, and that doesn't include shipping. So each coin would only net you $16.11 before shipping. Bringing your grand total to $4236.93 before shipping. And then add in maybe $300-350 total for shipping. bringing the total around $3900
@TheSilverSlacker9 жыл бұрын
+Aquarium Samurai I stated multiple times that this was showing how much it would cost to buy these coins now. I never said you could profit this much off of them and said that if you went to sell them you would have about $2,500 in fees to do so. Please watch from this point on as I state all of that: kzbin.info/www/bejne/a2TUY2Z8qttqgpIm37s So yes I agree with your assessment of how much you could make if we were to sell them right now. But like I said that wasn't the reason for the video. It was for the trolls that say it would be better to wait until now to buy. I was showing that someone could not buy what I bought over the last year for cheaper just because the spot price has gone down a couple dollars. If they tried to copy what I bought it would cost them $6,300 more, not less.

@TheSilverSlacker9 жыл бұрын
+EverydayAlchemy That was not the reason for this video since I am not selling right now anyhow. As I stated in the video this was just to see what has done well in the last year so I know what to focus on this year. I brought up paypal fees and ebay fees. But if I was to sell these right now on eBay, yes I would still make a good profit, but it would take awhile to sell them all because they are not as liquid as just selling generic bullion because of the premium.

No newer video. It is hard to tell exactly what will preform the best in the future. The 1/2 oz and 2 oz perth lunar coins have always done well, but no guarantee how they will do 1-5 years from now. Another strategy would be to just buy the cheapest premium silver you can find and profit just off the rise in silver price. It also all depends on how you plan to sell your silver. +PharmSilver The 2 oz libertad is a contender and I would get some at a good price. As far as the elephants, they do pretty well, but they have milk spotting issues and I would rather not deal with that.

thank you so much for doing this video. and taking the time to make it... i mean it. it proves to me i wasn't wrong in starting last year... even tho the price was coming down.... 10% increase on kookaburras shows to me....long term gains in my opinion. interesting to think people kill for 10% gain in the markets after a year when you can get a 30% + profit in a year on some silver items you buy regardless of the price lol. i think all stackers are in the right area right now.... but only time will tell. holding out for business going bust and premiums to drop.... if so will are investments go down with the ship? i dont think so....its physical.... take it easy dude.

+Silver Speed You are very welcome my friend! Yeah I know a lot of us buy the same things, so many of us are doing really well on our silver purchases even with spot price going down. The Kooks are doing great! Up 10% and the year isn't even over yet. I expect them to go up a lot more after they are no longer being produced.

That strategy will not work for a long haul. Eventually Perth mint will start flooding the markets with coins if they see the demand starts picking up. Otherwise they would leave money on the table.

Nice choices. Are you factoring in your ebay commissions and paypal fees in those profits? There is also the time involved in packaging and shipping them, which one could put a $ on if you wanted to. Not trying to bash, still think these are good investments, regardless where silver spot goes, just saying there is overhead to be considered. I'm putting my money on the kooks this year, think those are going to be a big winner. Also going in on the Rwanda meerkats, although I'm not as certain how those will do since mintage numbers aren't released.
@TheSilverSlacker9 жыл бұрын
+Jay Dubau Jay I said in the video that these numbers are not how much I could profit off of them, just how much more they would cost now. I tried to make that very clear in the video. Ebay and Paypal fees come to 9% if you have a store, which if anyone is selling a decent amount on eBay should. There would still be pretty decent profits on these items. Shipping takes no time at all as long as you have the right supplies like padded mailers and address labels you can print out with a press of a button through eBay.

I was not aware of the discount you get for having a store within eBay, good to know. keep on keepin on, your vids are some of the best

Good to see some figures. With the age of the internet hopefully there will be alternative ways for you to sell when you feel the time is right. With the volume of silver you have accumulated i'm sure you could set up a website & save yourself any ebay fees.
@TheSilverSlacker9 жыл бұрын
+CyberCurtainTwitcher Thanks, and I agree. Hopefuly there will something better than eBay to sell, but if you have a store in good standing with more than 100 transactions in the last year the eBay fees do go down a bunch. From 10% to only 4.8% which isn't to bad I guess. I am already at that level since I sell other stuff on eBay also.

If you sold all those 1/2 oz pieces for $4954 in one lot. you would pay $495 in ebay fees... Then you would pay 3.2% ($158) paypal fees. After fees you'd be at $4301. A 20.2% gain. Hopefully you remembered to charge for shipping (which they also charge a 10% fee of), and don't forget about the tax man. That is alot of work too.... With the time and energy it takes to photo, list, and ship the items I can/do find items with much more of a profit margin. Silver is great to have, but selling it is not as profitable as it seems. Don't get me wrong. I've sold some coins on there, but I try to find other (non-silver) items, that I can double my money on today... That means more silver for tommorrow. I have 18 years of experience selling on ebay
@TheSilverSlacker9 жыл бұрын
+AlmostCirculated I don't find selling on eBay hard at all. Actually if you have an eBay store (Costs $15 per month if you sign up for a year) the ebay fee is only 6%. If you sell more than 100 items a year they reduce the fee to 4.8% (that is what mine is because I sell a lot of non silver stuff on eBay). So that really helps with the fees. I plan to do a video fairly soon how easily it is to list and sell on ebay. Along with how easy it can be to ship if you have the right supplies and how cheap those supplies are.
@AlmostCirculated19 жыл бұрын
Silver Slacker It's not hard at all, but there are way way more lucrative items out there... I'll have to look into the ebay store thing, as I pay a few thousand a year on fees. There are a ton of resellers out there... If you give everyone your tips and tricks, you may create more competition for yourself.

3:33 this doesn't matter...??? but your total value is based on this number. Is APMEX buying your Silver Coins back? If you look for Ebay, people want to get their money back from silver, they are doing something called shorting. You lost 22 Cent per oz. Will it be better next year? hmm maybe, maybe not...It's like stock market but much slower in progression. It's nice too look at the coins though. Maybe the feel of wealth is a big part of it.
@TheSilverSlacker8 жыл бұрын
+Keysforjourney The price Apmex is selling them for doesn't matter to people trying to sell the coins themselves. The total value in the video was not based off the APMEX selling price, but the far lower eBay selling price, which is more accurate of what you can expect for the coins when selling. If you are trying to sell them, then you need to look at the eBay price, because that is what they are going for on eBay as I said in the video.

Can you please explain premiums and how they work I get spot prices but I'm so confused on premiums and premium investments
@TheSilverSlacker8 жыл бұрын
Premiums are the amount over spot you pay for the type of silver you are buying. Coins like the Perth Lunar series have a $5-$6 over spot premium. But as years go by they become more collectible so people are willing to pay higher premiums over spot like $15-$20 per ounce.
@Aweber878 жыл бұрын
I understand that part of premiums, but as time goes on what makes premiums raise or fall. A lot of videos (such as this one) have a variety of coins and the collector says "coin A" gained 3$ in premiums and "coin B" gained 5$ in premiums and "Coin C" lost 2$ in premium all while spot price gained 2.50 in price. So how can you tell if a coin premium is gaining or dropping? Or what makes a premium gain or loose
@TheSilverSlacker8 жыл бұрын
Well that all depends on supply and demand. You never really know what coins or silver pieces will appreciate in premiums in the future. You would be rich if you could know for sure. But you can take estimated guesses by looking into the past to see what has preformed well over the years and just hope that they will continue to do so, but their are no guarantees. The good thing those is they all have the intrinsic value of silver so no matter what they will at least be worth that.

Hello Silver Slacker. Great Video, thanks. I was wondering if you could share best some tips and advice on buying true rare metals safely on ebay? I visited Ebay a few more times and just don't know the safest way to genuine pure silver. I'd like to be as sure as possible that I'm getting the real thing, Thanks again.
@TheSilverSlacker8 жыл бұрын
Jay, some of the stuff I Look for when buying on eBay is to look at sellers that have a bunch of feedback and good ratings. Also ones who are located in the US. Many of the larger guys like Apmex and Scottsdale sell on eBay as well, so you know they are safe places to buy from. And lastly you can test your silver to make sure it is real and if not then you are guaranteed your money back by eBay. I use the specific gravity test because it is really accurate and hard to fool. Here is a link to my video where I discuss how to do it: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jqCuc6R8l6yYr7c

+SilverHustlin13 LOL, yeah I explain in the video you would have ebay fees and paypal. But if you have a store with eBay in good standing you can get your fees down to 4.8% (that is what mine is currently) That really helps bring those selling costs down, but they do still add up.

Whats your exit plan on all of this silver? Ebay?
@TheSilverSlacker9 жыл бұрын
+dchevron77 Yes, selling a little bit here and there to help pay for things like vacations or something. So I can continue to enjoy life when I get older and don't make as much as I do now. Selling on eBay for top dollar takes a little time, so you can't liquidate a bunch at once unless you are willing to sell it for less than the current going price.
@dchevron779 жыл бұрын
So I should give myself a decent amount of time if I wanted to sell things, to wait for them to sell? Because this year I went hard at the goats and semi numismatics. Not as much as you but most of my money went to the goats and kooks.

Silver bullion and coins should be considered a long term investments not short term. Personally a diversified portfolio of silver should have silver bullion and rare or low mintage or graded (PCGS-NGC) or raw silver coins and low production bullion from a trusted source to help off set volatility in the market. But stacking common and rare silver bullion and coins is great when prices are where they are at now.Now is a great time to put up Craigslist ad's seeking to buy as a private party even at a premium over spot if you are fairly educated in how to spot fake silver and coins.
@TheSilverSlacker9 жыл бұрын
+goldsilverandiamonds Yup, I agree it is very important to diversify your stack. That is why these are the only parts of my stack that are for flipping in a 3 year period. I have plenty of other stuff that is a 20 year timeframe.
@goldsilverandiamonds9 жыл бұрын
Silver Slacker You seem to have a good grasp on investing that's why I enjoy your videos. Your willingness to diversify and enter into Numismatic silver coins or odd low mintage bullion shows you are willing to do your homework. Paying an extra premium for silver coins and low mintage bullion for some is a no, no for some who just try to by silver at the closet price to spot but that is not necessarily the best way to invest in silver as many are finding out. It's better to diversify and include higher premium rarer silver along with near spot silver in my opinion. It's great to buy silver near spot especially long before an economic crisis when prices are low but if that's all a person relies on they may not like the short term effects if and when there is a turn around in the strength of the dollar and or economy.
