Worked for a JD dealer many years and think the 644 is the perfect all around size. Big enough for jobs you need some muscle but still easily transportable.

Hello Wily, During the Snow/Ice season. I was assigned to a county where I used to operate a pretty similar John Deere front end loader that had all of the controls on the right side of the cab with the forward and reverse control on a joystick being near the right side of the seat. Our John Deere loaders did not have a key switch like the older loaders did, but you had to know which switch on the console to push and it would start right up. Just over from the console there was a display which was actually an onboard scale system that worked off of how much weight was against the hydraulic system when loading. Those were some really nice loaders with all of the modern features. The accelerator pedals were made of aluminum and were very problematic about seizing up with corrosion in which it was much easier to order a new pedal assembly than to fight with trying to get them working smoothly again. Where our loaders were used to load the rock salt, It was not uncommon to see the floorboard and around the cab with lots of rust holes once they got a few years on them. The fuel tanks were huge and I am glad that I wasn’t having to pay for the diesel fuel. I’m thinking that our loaders were the next size under the loader that was in the video.
@DontbeWily2 ай бұрын
Thank you for sharing that. You really did have a set up on that machine. I forgot about the pedal.
@TheIronDuke5022 ай бұрын
@ Yeah, Those accelerator pedals were very bad about seizing up. Our mechanics tried taking the pedal assembly off and taking completely apart oiling everything up, Etc and the pedals in no time would be back like they were. Although the John Deere parts were pricey enough, It was far more economical to just replace the seized up pedals than to waste all the time. Our highway department also used the John Deere loaders for use with the 21 foot slope mowers which meant that was yet another joystick control and it’s control panel + pedestal mount were added inside also within the far right front area of the cab. So Yes, It was a bit crowded in that area of the cab. The John Deere loaders had a very strong hydraulic system in which we used them for some pretty heavy lifting. The loaders by specification no matter what brand they were had the large buckets had a set of forks and a boom attachment that came with each loader. In the past, we had Konatsu & Samsung loaders especially that had very poor lifting ability. The Michigan loaders had by far the best lifting capacity of all the loaders even stronger than the John Deere loaders were. We did have a Caterpillar loader or two but we all preferred the John Deere loaders hands down.

I'm a professional engine builder myself, and I don't mean to tell you how to do your job, but for diesel (and gas) engines with solid lifters that have presumably low compression, have you tried resetting the valve clearances at .012" for the intake valves & .018" for the exhaust valves? This must be done with each piston at TDC on the compression stroke. And doing this will trap more air in the combustion chambers to produce more compression & help the engine start quicker, idle smoother & produce more power. I found that by doing this makes a world or difference on how well an engine performs.
