I love watching you paint, and your style of artwork is beautiful. I’d like to know what do you do with painted paper? Do you display it as you would a canvas? Thank you!
@BettyFranksArt3 күн бұрын
Great question! I have several pieces of art from other artists that I purchased. It was just art on paper (no matting or framing). I matted and framed them. I recommend the same for my art on paper. You can to be sure that the art doesn't touch the glass (that's why the matting is needed or spacers). If it touches the glass, over time, it will become stuck to the glass. No fun! I hope that helps!

Hi Betty! I absolutely love watching you paint and really enjoy your commentary explaining the what and why as you go along. It's really helpful for a new artist like me. I was wondering if you'd be interested in talking about your palette. What is it made of and how do you keep it from drying out? I use a wet palette and it sometimes turns too wet, but without it my acrylics dry out much too quickly. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience!
@BettyFranksArt Жыл бұрын
Hi! I'm using 4 mil plastic (you can buy it in the paint department at your local hardware store or check out my fav art supplies: www.bettyfranksart.com/resources). The plastic is thick enough to use over and over again. I don't use a wet palette because I don't have much of an issue of the paint drying out. I tend to paint fairly quickly and only put out what I think I'll need. I hope that helps! Thanks so much for watching!

Love that little bit of mosaic thrown in. It really helps give some structure to it. And since i'm not 'crazy' about abstract it gives me a little something to latch on to in your painting.. I'm the type of person that needs a painting to 'make sense' ... I need to 'see' something in it... so i struggle with purely abstract. But i love to watch you paint and the freedom that you paint. And when your finished i can usually pick out a 'garden' in it which i know is what you go for.. Great video Betty! Thank you! Hugs! deb

@BettyFranksArt9 ай бұрын
Hi Nancy! It's not necessary to put down gesso before you begin. However, I like to do it because it seals the paper (less curling) and the paints glide over the surface instead of being absorbed into the paper. We all have our own preferences. Try it with and without gesso and see what you like best. Have fun creating!

Hallo Betty , I see that your paper does not deform despite that you did not tape it down previously. Do you treat it before you begin painting ? You had a first layer on when you started, and if I strech my paper (300gr aquarelpapier) wet and taped, stays ok as long as it stays taped. However when I take off the tapes and work on the piece further I always get bumps. Best regards Eva Janka, from the Netherlands
@BettyFranksArt11 ай бұрын
Hi Eva! I put down a layer of gesso before I start. I rarely have issues. That's mostly because I live in a climate where there is not a lot of moisture in the air. If I do experience some warping, I put the paper art under heavy books overnight. That usually takes care of the issue. Thanks so much for watching!

Hi. I eally appreciate your videos. I do have a question. How would I use a stencil to put a bunch of PERFECT black dots on an abstract piece without it running when you lift the stencil? I think a fluid acrylic would run....what do you think? If it wasn't circles I was trying to do, I assume painters tape might allow for a clean edge? But I'm really strumped with making perfect small circles. Thanks in advance.
@BettyFranksArt5 ай бұрын
Hi Melissa! If I were to use stencils, I would probably use a stencil brush (don't overload it with pain) or spray paint. I hope that helps!

Betty, how do you keep your paper flat. It doesn't seem to curl.
@BettyFranksArt8 ай бұрын
Hi Judy! I think it has to do with the amount of humidity in the air. I don't have very much, so it doesn't effect my paper. Sometimes, it will curl a bit.
