While I’m not fancy of the modern Doctors being displayed instead of the sketches, it is ultimately inconsequential. What I’m more happy about is seeing the Doctor actually regenerate instead of spinning into the void and stumbling out of the Tardis like he had one too many to drink. The second doctor understood he can’t change what’s happening and accepts his fate despite heavy protest beforehand. It’s a sad thing to think about but I’m happy to say we now have full visuals on each Doctor on how each regenerated.

Clever addition where you showed some of the modern era doctors in place of the drawings originally broadcast!

I would like to know when it was decided that regenerations had to be that silly burst effect they've done for 20 years rather than just a simple face morph the tenth planet regeneration is still undefeated (argue about the 96 TV movie, of course)
@TomoBakerinioАй бұрын
I think to introduce regeneration in a better way. Cus the effect is called "Regeneration Energy" and to actually show that the Doctor is going to regenerate
@danielyesheАй бұрын
I think a face morph would be better too. It would look more like a biological function. After all we all change appearances, it just takes years for humans.
@mondasiancyberman126826 күн бұрын
Funnily enough, the TV movie also features a glowing yellow effect which could be considered regeneration energy

The trouble with this is, the audios have held for decades that the Second Doctor lived for some amount of time without the sentence actually being carried out, and that's when the Two Doctors takes place in his timeline. If we accept this, when can that have taken place? He and Jamie invited Victoria to join them immediately after parting ways with Ben and Polly, and the same with Zoe after Victoria. You have the same problem with "the Day of the Doctor" - he seems to be traveling alone when he appears in that, which never happened in his on-screen era
@theDWshow20 күн бұрын
Not just the audios... if anything the audios are late to the party and just picking up a theory that fans had been kicking around since the mid 80s and how the Doctor and Jamie looked in The Two Doctors.

I'm probaly the only fan whose in a minority here who didn't like this version of the Second Doctor's regeneration i don't like seeing old films being tampered with i prefer the original version because it was more mysterious and creepy i felt showing the actual face change and the golden glow really spoiled the magic of that and should had been left alone. I also hated the modern Doctors being added to it they could had just used the original sketches but in hologram form there was no real reason for RTD to change it we know his real reasons but i won't go there.
@TomoBakerinioАй бұрын
I mean yeah I do totally agree with you. This did feel like if The War Games was made in 2024. However, I feel that this edit was purely made for entertainment and not actually something that drastically changes the lore and canon. Lots of people have made custom regenerations like this before and we finally got an official one. Personally, the screens of the Doctors is a nice touch, as it did mean that the Doctor could've chose his next incarnation, either being "too old", "too young", "too fat", "too thin" and people have always matched them to future incarnations. The original is always going to be up on the original War Games, this is just exclusively for the color version, giving us a proper Second Doctor Regeneration (as they didn't have an actor for the 3rd Doctor before The War Games aired).
@dennisperusse3837Ай бұрын
I agree with both of you although I’d prefer the original full unedited story to have been colorized. Plus I hated the connection that the War Chief and the Master were the same. Terrence Dicks and Malcom Hulke had different takes on the character. It would seem that the War Chief was kinda a prototype of what The Master was. Dicks said that they weren’t the same character but Hulke said that it could easily be. I would have preferred that the War Chief was separate from The Master as that would have opened up possibilities for other characters to be written for in other stories.
@SaltybuherАй бұрын
I found the original story repetitive and boring. It is most celebrated I suspect because it brought in the Timelords and the sad way the Second Doctor is forced to regenerate. In story there is no real reason for the Doctor to have to regenerate to go into exile. Not unless the Timelords knew that the Second Doctor would go nuts on Earth in a way another incarnation marooned from the start would not?

Adding the regeneration visual effects is just further muddying the waters on a topic that so many whovians (and people at the BBC) have misunderstood for so long. This is NOT a regeneration. The time lords imposed a sentence that involved being stranded and having his appearance changed, and that's it. It was not the death penalty, or they would have stated that. Troughton and Pertwee are BOTH the "second Doctor." Tom Baker is the third (and best). And so on. But the count has been off for so long that it's basically canonized, and nobody wants to hear the truth. 🤷♂

The problem with the way this is shown is that it contradicts later episodes by implying that the regeneration happened instantly upon his sentencing. Now, what do I mean by that? In The Three Doctors, the Time Lords summon the Second Doctor to help the Third. How can they do that? The Second Doctor was on the run from the Time Lords at that point in time-they had no idea where he was. It wasn’t until the Doctor sent a call for aid that the Time Lords were able to locate him. In The Five Doctors, the Second Doctor visits Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart during his retirement from UNIT, mentioning that he is "bending time a little." And in The Two Doctors, we see the Doctor openly working for the Time Lords-none of which would make sense if his regeneration had happened immediately after his sentencing. I think that already in the classic episodes, the BBC adopted and confirmed a fan theory: the Second Doctor didn’t regenerate immediately after his sentence. Instead, he was recruited by the CIA (Celestial Intervention Agency) and worked for them for a period of time. Eventually, his sentence had to be carried out, and he was forced to regenerate. The original ending of The War Games was much better in that we never actually saw the Doctor "regenerate." We saw him disappearing, and in the next episode, we saw the Third Doctor stumble out of the TARDIS and fall to the ground. Since the TARDIS is a time machine, any number of weeks, months, or years could have passed between the sentencing and this event. However, with the current explanation, it cuts out "Season 2.5" (as I think it’s called among fans) completely. This makes the events of The Three Doctors, The Five Doctors, and The Two Doctors make no sense whatsoever. In fact, in The Two Doctors, it is outright confirmed that the Second Doctor works for the Time Lords-something he most certainly wouldn’t have done if Season 2.5 didn’t happen.
@TomoBakerinio28 күн бұрын
I aint reading allat but I agree
@Erikjust28 күн бұрын
@TomoBakerinio Basically TLDR, the current "modified" ending to the war games conflicts with what was shown in the classic episodes the three, five and two doctors. Here the Second doctor is shown to be working for the time lords, something he wasn´t doing in his original episodes, he was on the run from them. This has up until now been fixed by season 2,5, where the second doctor is working for the Time lords after his sentencing. But this ending invalidates season 2,5.
@Gzeebo28 күн бұрын
They call it Season 7b. It still could have happened. Perhaps it went something like this: The doctor is protesting and feeling giddy. The CIA yoink him out of time. Over a nice cup of tea and a jammy dodger they manage to recruit him in exchange for letting him visit the Brigadier. After some unknown number of missions they slide him back into his time stream. I actually think (then Inquisitor, later Chancellor) Goth secretly knew this was happening.
@Erikjust28 күн бұрын
@@Gzeebo Not in the way it is shown. It is shown that the Doctor directly went from sentencing to regeneration. Instead of in the original version where it just faded and we never actually saw him change his face.
@andyshepard430926 күн бұрын
@@ErikjustExcept, and this just my observation, they had him go from regeneration on Gallifrey to randomly being transported into his TARDIS, leaving the 7b theory still open to interpretation

I like the colour, but not the edits to the story. Feels like a cheap way to make past and future come together when it's not necessary. Also the original choices the Doctor was given were so outlandish it was funny. Instead they show his actual future incarnations which diminished the effect.

Nice, but keep the 2nd doctor in black/white and drop the images of future regenerations. Then switch to colour during the regeneration. The change to colour with the 3rd doctor was a BIG deal at the time. I realise your didn't make the video but just these small changes would really increase the impact...
