Excellent presentation...but I think you are in error concerning the "Betty Boop" statement. PBS has confirmed that Betty Boop, the popular cartoon character introduced to the world by cartoonist Max Fleischer in 1930, was actually inspired by a real-life African American jazz singer and entertainer from Harlem named Esther Jones.

Most of the stories of Clara's "affairs" were nothing but lies. She loved Victor Flemming...THAT is true...but she WASN'T a "non stop sex machine" in ANY way shape or form. All of this was made up by DeVoe....and she didn't inspire Betty Boop either. For anyone interested in the full story of the real Clara Bow, David Stern has a wonderful and factual biography of her. So talented and yet those she wanted to trust treated her like dirt and betrayed her.

Oh Miss Clara Bow.... Hollywood had to crush her because she was way too talented. She is the Pixie Queen who paved the way for such Greats as May West, Bette Davis, Mirna Loy, and so many, many more. It just breaks my heart to see how the Hollywood Movie Machine works harder at killing their Actresses, than they do actually making movies. They'd rather paint the face of a white man, than hire black man. They'd rather have boys play the roles of women, than hire REAL women. Oh Miss Clara Bow.... I remember you. Adorable as a child, and as beautiful as the Femme Fatal.

@Korvee

Ester Jones wasn't even old enough to model Betty after, and the person who imitated Jones wasn't Bow, it was Helen Kane. Max Fleischer said himself that he wanted Betty to be a caricature of Helen Kane, with side inspiration from Bow, Ester was never even considered in the character design process

Talented and beautiful, but the honest truth is that if these stories are true she didn't live a very moral life. It's not the sleeping around she had the personal right to do so, it's the knowingly causing issues in marriages. That doesn't mean the men aren't accountable, but both women and men in these situations destroy lives. I truly hope she found peace.

What is a "moral life" when you're living in an environment like Hollywood where people don't follow the same mores as the rest of the country? I would love to find a Hollywood actor or actress with a true "hands off" approach towards married people.
