I just wanted to say that I watched this video before purchasing with Wickes and ended up recording my own videos daily in case anything went wrong. I'm now suffering many of the same issues and almost nothing in the kitchen was done correctly! If I put a spirit level against my larder it's 2cm off, 3m of kitchen units are installed wonky too, faulty oven which they're refusing to replace (only repair), a sink that was heavily scratched and scuffed whilst the fitters were installing a splash (that now cannot be replaced due to no stock for the last few months, but it has to be this one as it's the only one that fits my solid surface!)... and that's not even the whole list! Absolute nightmare caused by both the original fitters and Wickes inability to take any ownership or have processes in place to deal with issues! My install started in March and is still ongoing in December.

I’m not in the trade I’m a design engineer but this is a basic problem when it comes to dealing with none square rooms. You can try to taper the units (which is asking for trouble) or simply build the wall out floor to ceiling. The latter is really easy to do for a competent DIYer using a stud frame and plasterboard. It also leaves you a conduit space for utilities if required. If it’s only a slight amount and a short wall dot/dab adhesive has enough adjustability to take it up when installing plasterboard. You can do the same for a bathroom if you need to make up a gap between a bath end and the wall; in that case use tile backer board and seal the joints to shut the moisture out. The fit and finish on the aqua board is poor, it looks like it hasn’t been measured and jigged correctly and I doubt the right cutting tools have been used, window sill looks the same. Another thing is the cabinet next to the steps has a small gap, why has that not been allowed for and shimmed/enclosed to make sure there’s nowhere for any damp or debris to collect. Looks like the answer to my kitchen is fit it myself and call on a few of my contacts for plumbing and worktop joinery. Sorry you’ve had such a carry on with this but thanks for posting to make the rest of us aware so wickes contract fitters can be avoided.

I’ve seen a few kitchen review videos now and it seems the problem is always with the fitting and not the units themselves. Wickes units are pretty solid but we’ve got a fantastic fitter lined up. I’d never use their own fitters.
@pietkaify3 жыл бұрын
They were informed the kitchen wasn't square. The designer did a site visit. We weren't informed the 1st fitter was recovering from a stroke. Nor should he be given the kitchen given it needed fully plastering, Stud wall and 2 person job for some of the works. Instead we were at his and thier mercy and a 15 working day install turned into a 3 month install. Our issues were never resolved. So the videos sat up as a warning to others. Units are solid but bare MDF behind units near steam from kettles and such. Also plinths installed with bare MDF at bottom.

I feel for you mate, we're in the middle of a bodged Wickes kitchen and bathroom fitting ourselves. Looks far worse than yours actually, complete cowboy fitters, totally bodged the laminate flooring and the fitting of pretty much everything else. They damaged the new sink, hob, shower panels, toilet cistern etc etc etc. The cowboy fitters are coming this week to rectify their wrongs, basically ripping it all out and doing it again! Not holding out high hopes it'll be any better to be honest!

This is why I choose to DIY. The wife thinks I'm being cheap, but she doesn't understand most of these 'professionals' have an IQ of around 100 and are totally incompetent.... they just don't think, do shoddy work and expect to get paid. I wish people would take pride in their work and do things properly. I honestly feel for you my friend 😳

I’m fitting pretty much the same kitchen now cooker washer dish washed all in etc absolutely everything other then the sink because we didn’t like it and we’ve paid 4k and I’ve at least 8 end panels so they have definitely been ripped off , we got ours from home base

6x3 boards are way to small for that size of room. tapered edged boards should have only been used. Then have been leved off to be replasted..to smooth finished ready to paint.. Dry lining that room was a bad idea from the start...but that's down to client error you agreed to re-plastering in job quotation. I'm sorry but that kitchen is not worth 10k. Sounds like you got ripped off by wicks. The fitters get a set amount per kitchen and turst me it's not even 12% of the amount you paid. Considering there fitting is the single most important part of the entire operation. Best advice, buy the kitchen or bathroom, then source quality tradespeople yourself.

I have had a few problems with wikes wooden windows. As for the little slivers of plaster go get yourself a finger trowel and a bag of multi finish and do it yourself! Even if it doesn't come out perfect when you lay it on just go a little thick so you can sand it back. I'm a plasterer and I hate little jobs like that because i have to charge well to make it worth going and don't like making people feel like I'm taking the piss. so definitely worth doing yourself. I'm sorry that you have layed out that much money and you haven't got what you and your wife wanted!! I hope they get it sorted for you!

Product quality is good. We got an installer that recently had a stroke. Couldn't admit fault and at the end of the day was really under the duty of care of the management that appointed him fit to install again. Fit was onto of the the product price. Plumbing and electrical was done by myself. Except the pipe he hit. Then repaired. That went into flood the kitchen.

@@pietkaify that's what I'm saying, this company most likely went with the cheapest contractor they could find. Contractor did what I call a slap job rushing the install
@pietkaify2 жыл бұрын
@@Vincent_Preston don't think he rushed it. He wasn't fit enough. Was penciled in a 10 working days. Took 20 working days. Plus complaints and remedial from another team over a 12 week period. He didn't have the strength after his illness to lift a worktop length or move a fridge. Had to wait for his brother or his wife to help him. Kitchen was flagged as not square. He built the kitchen off square then floated the idea of a false wall to square the kitchen. Showed him the plan that said install false wall. That he built at 8' leaving a stupid gap at the top that made the kitchen look wrong as you enter and walk 5 steps down to floor level. I didn't get the choice of contractor.

I've ordered a kitchen from wicks and I'm shocked to see this video and their lack on services to you. Thank God I didnt go with their installers with their ridiculous prices. I hope you got your kitchen sorted mate, really feel sorry for you I know its stressful as I went through the same thing with B&Qs bathroom homekit service- absolutely rubbish hence why they stopped the service in August 2018. Good luck

If your in kent your welcome to visit. This should have been done to a fair standard before my son was born. He is now one. In self employed and have precious little time let alone with a small one. John the area manager let us down despite 3 visits. The remedial fitters were gold. Bit the instructions handed down on what needed to be done didn't match the confirmed works via email. I'm at the end of my piece of string. But wickes is coming with me!

Unfortunately a lot of so called fitters couldn’t give a shit about the quality of the job because they don’t know any better. They rock up and haven’t got a clue what they are doing.The guy who fitted it was a bloody imbecile. Decent tradesmen put a sensible price in and have some pride in their work and themselves . If I’m not happy with the finish on something I don’t have the customer busting my balls because I will have altered it and made it right myself. Im on a job at the moment that some company took a nice retired couples money and then decided to go bust half way through. They paid all of the money upfront and didn’t even get the appliances, luckily the kitchen was almost finished. The granite guys and the original fitter also got taken. Way too common.

I'll be honest we spent more time chasing and shaming wickes than it took in man hours to install. We lost a year of DIY last year because we couldn't even get the old waste collected from the bottom of our garden. It took 4 months! We lost out bathroom fitters slot due to no rear access. I couldn't finish the garden properly. We planned a year of doing ahead of the little ones appearance. A screwdriver make it any better. Were on our second set of fridge and freezer doors that have bowed. (Showroom model has been in place 4 years and has no bowing.) Extractor panel is like swiss cheese where it's been realigned so many times to square it. 3 pooly scribed end panels. Dishwasher isn't square/LH fixing fallen out of door panel. Aqua splash gaps. Works signed off to be completed but not on contractors sheets. And many many more! It's all in the hands of the ombadsman pending a site visit from them. Last year we put the money down for our dream kitchen and I'm making sure we get it. =)
