Reminds me of a quote of the early imam Sufyan al-Thawri, that _“facing God with 70 (i.e. numerous) sins between you and God would be easier for you to deal with than to face God with a single sin between you and His creatures.”_ So sinning against people is more serious to God

Thank you your point about finding God when we do our small part to feed the poor. I always fold my hands in reverence when I worship God through a small act of service to a poor person. Because I recongnize that ultimately it is not me who is helping, because at the level of the material plane, I don't matter. Rather it's a chance for me to see the Light of the Divine through that form.

Why is it that people assume that not performing a specific daily prayer ritual equates to “deliberately (or completely) neglecting the one who created you”? Like this person can have no other connection with the divine in their life! What about all the other statements in our classical tradition that speak of divine recollection (d̲h̲ikr) being a form of devotion (ʿibāda) to God? Or the positive mention of those who “celebrate God standing, sitting and lying down, contemplating the creation of heaven and earth,” directly addressing the Divine with their innermost thoughts (Q. 3:191). Or that “as long as a person’s heart is remembering God (mā dāma qalb al-rajul yad̲h̲kuru ‘Llāh), they are in a state of prayer (fa-huwa fī ṣalāh), even if they are out shopping” (wa-in kāna fī l-sūq)? What about the prayer of supplication (duʿāʾ); is it not said to be the ultimate manifestation of devotion to God (huwa l-ʿibāda)? Does our tradition not teach that any and every mundane action that’s done for God is worship (just by staying conscious of your intention at all times)? Yes, the [daily] prayer ritual is also mentioned often in scripture, and its neglect condemned; but where do we get this idea that not doing the ṣalāh necessarily means that a person cannot be attentive to the divine in other ways? That they can’t still celebrate or tearfully invoke or thank God?
@wetdragonballz1332
@wetdragonballz1332 Жыл бұрын
@@adoreroftheexpander7342Salam Alykym Akhi, the reason for the assumption and why it is valid to some extent is because Salat, is what the difference is between and Muslim and Kafr. It wouldn’t make much sense to do all those things and not do salat. The prophet pbuh had said “Verily, between a man and idolatry and unbelief is abandoning the prayer.” Source: Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 82 The reason why I said some extent is because I am not sure in the context you meant. When you said when not performing the salat, I wasn’t sure if you meant not performing as in the context of missing it due to reasons not being negligence. The mufti (MALM) did make a good video and good points but I felt like he forgot to mention that salat is one of the Most important part of our religion and that we should never, ever abandon it no matter what the circumstances are.

@@wetdragonballz1332 then why has the standard position of Muslim scholarship throughout the centuries been that "not praying *isn't* disbelief," i.e. you're *still* 💯 *a Muslim* even if you don't perform the daily prayer-ritual (Ṣalāh)? Even the Ḥanbalī school's official position (muʿtamad) is that only if/when someone denies its obligation do they exit the fold of Islam! So a person can do the prayer-ritual and be a terrible monster of a human being, and a person can not do this specific prayer-ritual & still remember, thank and celebrate God, and be a moral human being. The latter is still better than the former, regardless of the former's outward performance of Ṣalāh. Ṣalāh is important, but only if done in a meaningful way; otherwise it can just become a pointless show (and the Quran condemns "those who do their Ṣalāh" for this very reason in chapter 107). It's also reported through a questionable chain-of-narrators (that was deemed acceptable [ḥasan] by the Syrian-Ḥanbalī polymath ʿAbd al-Qadir b. Badrān) that the Prophet said that those whose Ṣalāh doesn't keep them from disgraceful and unjust deeds will only grow more distant from God with each Ṣalāh. (This statement was also reported from some of the great early Muslims like Ḥasan al-Baṣrī, Qatāda, and even Ibn ʿAbbās & Ibn Masʿūd.) Re the solitary hadith you quoted from Muslim’s Ṣaḥīḥ (82-which, btw, both of the transmission-chains Muslim quotes are not free of criticism (e.g. the tadlīs of Aʿmash, with ʿanʿana [indirect transmission])...and it’s interesting that Bukhari did not record this hadith, as he was one of those who criticized one of its narrators, “Abū l-Zubayr” Muḥammad b. Muslim): the wording is quite interesting. It says "all that stands between a person and unbelief...is to give up the Ṣalāh." So it doesn't outright say that 'not praying = disbelief.' Only that completely giving up the Ṣalāh in toto (tark al-ṣalāh) is what stands between you and...rejecting God/idolatry. Like once a person loses their connection with God (and Ṣalāh was seen as the main manifestation of that link), then they're in danger of falling into disbelief or starting to worship other gods. But what if a person still 'connects with God' in other ways in the course of their day? Then the likelihood of their falling into disbelief/polytheism is slim. Yes, they may be neglecting an important ritual; but (my initial point was) that doesn't necessarily mean that they are devoid of any divine-connection. Oh & peace be with you as well ✌🏼

@@adoreroftheexpander7342 Salam Alykum Akhi. I never disagreed with the point of someone who prays can never be a bad person. Obviously I think the person who prays and does unthinkable sins is worse then the person who doesn't pray. The point I made about praying and a person becoming a disbeliever is kind of complicated. I think we can both find common ground that a person who outright denies prayer and gives it up by thinking it is not obligatory leaves the fold of Islam. The debate has many famous scholars on both sides. I can also agree with your last point aswell, not performing praying doesn't make you immune to any divine connection. I hope you can agree with me on this though, the best way to connect with Allah (SWT) is through salah. Akhi, if you don't mind me asking, How are you so well versed in Hadith knowledge? Where do you obtain most of your knowledge from? I want to be educated like you. I am like a level 1 compared to you haha.

@@wetdragonballz1332 I’m w/ you on the denial part & about Ṣalāh being the best, but it has to be done right (I feel) to really have an impact. Otherwise it can feel kind of empty and pointless. Also, I think just being exposed to the breadth of diverse opinion re diff. aspects of the Ṣalāh we take for granted (as being fixed or ‘set in stone’)/assume were never debated, I know for me was so liberating. Re the hadith thing 😅 (firstly, thank you for the kind comment ❣️) but honestly it’s been a long journey that began when I attended some evening Arabic classes at my local mosque. Arabic is def. (I think 🤷🏻‍♂️) the key to accessing so much untranslated material, especially in hadith (otherwise you’re always relying on ppl & at the mercy of...what they choose to share). Those classes gave me a good enough foundation, which I then built on by myself...thru looking up words in online Arabic-English dictionaries, listening to Arabic lectures/Q&A’s on KZbin...slowly trying to read books/look up issues in Arabic. Islamweb had a good library I used to use, and then waqfeya is another great resource for Arabic books. Then there were some happy coincidences of meeting ppl far more well-read/knowledgeable in hadith than me, and we had some great convos, and they directed me to great reading material...and would share stuff from Ibn Hajar, Ibn Rajab 💥, Daraqutni, etc. There’s also a lot of amazing hadith papers by contemporary hadith specialists you can read that are just revelatory. On KZbin, Sh. Mustafa al-‘Adawi’s hadith Q&A’s are 🔥 - his in particular really opened my eyes to a lot... There’s just so much to read. There’s awesome websites that list the critical comments on hadith-narrators...
