I was like this guy about finances. I trusted my husband completely, assuming he was much better with finances than I. After all, he was a CPA and was very tight with money. Then one day after 25 years of making payments on our $29,500 home he blurted out that we still owed $25,000 on our house. WHAT? ! I had to check into this. The banker told me that he had used our home on collateral on several large loans amounting to about $22,000. It didn’t add up. We didn’t have new furniture, cars, etc. Turns out he was spending all this money on some girl half our age. So…his girlfriend was getting massive boxes of chocolates, clothes from fancy stores where I wasn’t allowed, photos from an expensive portrait where the kids and I were not allowed, and a car. People are surprising. After that I wondered just how far he would go. I actually became afraid he might have me killed, as the trust was totally destroyed.

Exactly. Which is why all these people need to stop saying it makes no sense that he didn't know her character was off, that he must have been bad at his job because he didn't know she was a bad person. Like the people who are making those comments have clearly never been in a manipulative relationship. There's plenty of PI s, detectives, even people who profile for a living for the darn fbi who wouldn't know if their partner was a murderer or a r@pi$t , ECT. Like you said. It's all about the manipulation. When you're manipulated into thinking your partner is somebody else. Love will blind you. I think it's ignorant all these people commenting saying he must have been a horrible private investigator because that makes no sense. Tons of people have been in terribly manipulative relationships but they are incredibly smart people and great at what they do. Like therapists for instance. People assume right away antherapist should know they're dating a narcissist and that's simply not true.

There's a reason why we hear about "conflict of interest" and "too close to the case" on every police show. We are blinded when it comes to the people close to us, either by our own emotions, projections of who they are or because we are so close to their manipulations. Not realising his wife is a murderer doesn't mean he wasn't a good officer/investigator - it's one thing to be focused on every little while on the job and another to do it every minute of the day in your personal relationships. "Trust" means not breaking down someone's every word, action and movement. He must've just enjoyed having an easy life where he did his thing, his wife did hers and obviously never considered that would mean that she would end up murdering someone and putting him at risk of being an accomplice/conspirator.

You spoke so many facts. I would add that easily trusting people you are friends with comes easier in your teens. If you don't have any remarkable issues occur early in childhood, you can literally think all people are truthful and just not give it a 2nd thought. I was really good friends with someone for 17 years. She was a great friend and we were there for each other. Even though I was married, she was the only female I trusted to come in my home when I wasn't there. My husband died in 98. About 15 years ago I decided to move from Florida to DC. She absolutely stopped talking to me and would not return my calls. I reached out so many times. Spoke with her about her behavior and never got a straight answer. Her sister later told me many important things she never told me she was involved with. I was so shocked. I'm still shocked. When I say we were close friends, I mean we could have been sisters. I genuinely don't believe he lied about anything. The way he conducted himself was 100% believable. I feel bad for him that someone he devoted himself to and trusted betrayed him so horribly! I will say I'm surprised how clueless he was about their finances. I take care of everything in our house too but my husband always has an idea where we're at. Especially when he uses the ATM, it spits out the receipt with our balance on it. That's pretty standard so I don't know how he never saw that.

It’s wild when you understand the psychology of interrogation rooms. This is considered a hard interrogation room versus a soft one. You can see the size of the table versus the room. It’s made to subconsciously make the person feel like the walls are closing in on them. soft rooms have couches with teddy bears and things like that for victims to be interrogated.

Having listened to so many interviews of people it is VERY apparent from this interview what a sincere and confused person sounds like - the way his explanations dart around but still answer the question; they aren't long and rambling answers but if he suddenly thinks of something which might be useful he cuts off in the middle of his sentence for a short digression and then gets back to his original explanation once he's done. It's a stark difference from the guilty party where every sentence is super focussed and packed with detail, like reading a novel aloud.
