Anaisel Ramos Yeah but there's only so much time and confrontations before two friends before they break off their friendship. Sometimes you have to do a give and take and try to understand the other. Not get butthurt over something they might say.
@gorillagetsbigger9 жыл бұрын
I understand that. I hear you out but I feel like this isnt a big explosion or anything, you know. I understand why David got defensive though. He was feeling like Justin was saying he wastes bis time on JK news and it's something he invests time in and believes. It's ok that Justin didnt get that so it's fine for David to stick up for it. At the end of the day Justin is just trying to help him out and tell him his insight but you know sometimes it can come off a bit mean. They dont agree but it's good to keep friends who think differently because you see more views that way

Being blunt here but Justin wasn't trying to 'throw shade' at all. He was trying to steer you into taking action towards advancing your acting career by acknowledging the fact that you may have been 'slacking off' (which is a harsh phrase, as you've obviously being putting work into YT videos) on your acting career by falling back to KZbin. It's understandable therefore that'd you got defensive as you haven't been just sitting around doing jackshit, you've been with JKFilms, you've made short-films etc. But ultimately you haven't been going for your true passion as you told Justin, which is to be an actor in presumably Hollywood or mainstream films. Justin has absolutely no reason to diss you for doing YT and he, like you said, is a friend and has only the best intentions.

+saem aneras really? cause to me personally it did seem like there was some kind of passive aggressive tone with Justin. so much so, that i stopped the video for a while to read some of the comments to see, if that is actually some kind of skit, just a serious one this time
@aznmmv009 жыл бұрын
+yellup44 I dont agree that Justin had the "I'm better than you" type of mentality although he couldve worded himself better. I think that he was trying to convey to David that if he wanted to grow his channel and focus more on acting, he should take a more business approach, similar to Justin or Gina Darling. And the way he should do that is focus more on connecting with other successful actors such as Justin. I agree with what one youtuber said in a different comment; I think David should spend less time on JKNews and spend a decent amount of time trying to brand himself as an actor if he is serious
@LHAClothing9 жыл бұрын
+aznmmv00 I agree with you. David has a path in his mind that is different from what Justin was saying which caused a conflict. Sometimes people just gotta stop and listen, less talking , more listening, and figure it out with yourself, and maybe come back with a more clear explanation versus just trying to combat the advice. an advice is an advice. David is overthinking this whole thing. thinking Justin said things to put him down.
@lillian65729 жыл бұрын
+aznmmv00 But i feel that isn't what David wants, he likes KZbin and how he is his own manager producer etc. he stated that he had opportunities, but they fell through because he wasn't willing to give himself up to the networks. In my opinion Justin is pushing David into what he is doing, which is not the route David wants. He likes the freedom of this type of platform, and there is also the fact that he believes that KZbin is not a "real" job and that it is kinda a half ass type of business, which isn't true because we can see how much work David puts into his videos (i mean just look at the vlogs before he decided to change the format).

+Denio Stephney I echo this, wit the whole closure part but i feel as though David is, as with alot of people myself included, a verbal processor. Meaning you talk, as you speak you refine what you're really trying to say or how you're really feeling or thinking. Kinda like a self induced psychiatry session. It good that Khalif can stay somewhat neutral and bounce stuff back to david. Idk, when you let stuff fester in the brain you can blow it way out of proportions, whereas if you have someone to engage in conversation with you most of the time realise most of the time its all good.

+Jillian Chin Njet Thing Real or not, this vlog felt very passive-aggressive. It's as though he's trying to tell Justin he's offended in an indirect way. You know I actually loved this. This is a REAL conversion. Trying to bs around a person doesn't make you kind or thoughtful it makes you seem a bit cowardly. Yes, sometimes you need to hold back but sometimes people will be butt hurt about what you say, but that's okay, it means what you're saying is getting through to them. Going through life holding back doesn't progress anything forward sometimes you have to be straight up to make progress.

That is the most real representation of true friendship. Being able to analyze yourselves, face to face, criticizing the very depth of your meaning in front of each other. Not mincing words but being truthful in a way that helps progress one from what is false and what is true. What one truly wants. Kudos to to you for that Conversation with Justin, David. You had some huevos putting that out here for everyone to see. However, it's like how they say, people accept honesty. And honesty works. That's why KZbin has grown as a platform as much as it has. I'm a subscriber who will stay for years to come, if this content continues the way you're letting it grow.

I honestly respect both you and Justin as artists so much, and believe conversations like these are very healthy. Both of you have such different perspectives on the same "craft" that you have chosen, and since both of you are stubborn as Khalif mentions and very passionate with your art I'm not surprised that you couldn't exactly see eye to eye. With my experience as a dancer I know where both of you guys are coming from. I could tell that you considered Justins responses as jabs and that's definitely what they were, but I'm sure he was also coming at you as a friend trying to push his buddy into maybe going another way. Maybe he feels as if you're saying that you're at a point in your career where you feel stuck on a plateau and he wants to see you make not just steps but a jump onto the next layer of the mountain. And I understand where you're coming from when you say you are doing something to get where you want to be. Truthfully man you are, I look up to you so much because you always continue to motivate me and I think about the words you've told all of us in many videos all the time. at least you're putting out consistent content, and making sketches, and putting out your ideas to a judgmental world with a crowd of people bigger than I've ever had on my main channel. Its more than I can say I've done, but at the same time there is always the possibility to do more. Even for me, I've been in a movie, I've been asked to perform in the bay area, I'm part of a dance company that travels internationally, I've worked with a few of my biggest inspirations, but I still could be working out more and stretching and creating more pieces and trying to make more connections. I recently had to make one of the biggest decisions of my career and I've been depressed this whole week because of it, until finally my director really said something that inspired me to move forward with my life and stop moping. She told me to avoid linear thinking. Thinking about right, wrong, forward, backwards, good, bad is too much judgement on yourself. It's honestly up to you man, only you can tell yourself where you want to go and make yourself do it. Thank you for your incredible content man there is great wisdom in this video on both sides. Hopefully I'll get the chance to meet you some day.

David. I don't know if you're going to read this but you and Justin are both right. Don't get mad at him for questioning your decision to put aside acting when you and he both know you'd kill it. You got a little defensive and that's natural but don't take his words as shade. He's pushing you to make a big decision and you don't know if you're ready and that's fine too. When you decide that you want to act and write you'll do it. That's all there is. You chose an easier path but you're very talented and would make an amazing actor and addition to Main stream media. When you feel ready you'll do it. Justin just wants to know why someone with so much talent hasn't done it already. I don't really like butting into someone else's business but neither of you are wrong but you aren't right either. He can't push too hard because it makes you second guess yourself shown as you may or may not have attacked him personally with the "Vlog" thing. But, you can't push him away looking for faults in him when all he wants is to see you as he knows you can be. much more successful than you are now although you've accomplished so much; he and everyone of you're subs knows you can do even more amazing things and just haven't done it yet.

I don't know if this is the right way to go with this video. You and Justin both made very good points, and it was nice to hear more about the professional side of things, but for me the video went down hill during your conversation with Khalif. When you talked about how you were helping him with his lines I got excited because I hoped you would talk about acting techniques or something of that sort. Instead, it turned into you talking about things that had to do with Jason which you could have told him to his face. If you didn't like way Jason was talking you should have just told him to be blunt about it. Instead, you were more defensive and redirected the conversation to his career and telling him what he hasn't done. I know you're trying to be more "real", but aren't you just throwing as much, if not more shade at him than he was at you over your career? For future reference, I think it's better to be outright with friends.
@autumnraine32099 жыл бұрын
You've obviously had a lot of experience with people and I'm sure you knew what kind of drama could be created while this was happening. Why do (or not do) something that you know could cause trouble? Sure it's normal for friends to get "salty", but wouldn't it have been better if you had been more open with him? You seemed to have no problem talking with Khalif about it; why wouldn't you have just told Justin to his face? If you think about it from his point of view, wouldn't you feel kind of crappy if you were trying to give someone advice and the entire time they weren't telling you what was actually on their mind? And only to find out that person aired out all their grievances about you and the conversation with the entire world before you heard about it.

@NRLazy9 жыл бұрын
+Mars Castillon Not really an ass. He was honestly wanting to know why David hasn't done what he said he wants to do. I'm typically Justin in my friends conversations. We don't mean to come off as rude or insensitive. We see the talent and impact that our friends leave on people. If David wants to become an actor and bring his content to a more main stream audience. He can do it. We all know he can do it. It just doesn't make sense why he doesn't do it. Yes, JKnews is an excuse for him to reconsider his ambitions but David is talented and Justin sees it. He knows David can succeed and is wondering why he hasn't already. It's not that Justin's being an ass it's that David isn't using his potential to it's fullest and Justin isn't beating around the bush with the questions. Justin is a friend that David needs because David is stopping his own success and believe it or not If he just went ahead and did what he said he wants to do he'd be bigger than most.

David, when has a KZbin channel ever become a TV show? It's unheard of! Yes, JK news is a great channel that is successful but let's be real, who would watch it on TV? That show would be cancelled in less than a month. Not because the content is bad but because it's a different kind of entertainment that should stay on KZbin. You have to take into account that the age group of the viewers for both KZbin and TV is different as well. The viewers of KZbin mainly consists of teens and young adults, while the viewers of TV is mostly middle aged adults and elders. Also, KZbin is consisted of a person or group coming up with their own idea or concept for a channel and posting videos online, whereas TV shows have lots of production value into them and the ratings/viewings/profit it receives determines whether it will stay on TV or not. They're two totally different things and which ever path you want to choose is for you to decide, no one else. If going into acting for mainstream media is something you want to do then great! You obviously have a talent in acting and have a lot of experience in entertainment so I see no trouble in you finding a talent agent. However, acting is something that requires a lot of time, especially in mainstream media, and if that's something you don't have then it's best not to pursue it. Acting is a hard job and there's going to be so many rejections from auditions until you get a part. Happens to every single actor out there. Regardless of which route you choose we're always going to support you no matter what. Doesn't matter if that means slacking or less videos. If we can see you on the big screen, TV, film, or whatever doing what you love and always desired to do, that will make us happy for you. (:

+Zoe K I agree with you 100%. Annoying orange went from KZbin to TV (Cartoon Network). Lasted 1.5 years (May 28, 2012- Mar 17, 2014). The chances of JK News becoming successful as a TV show is slim to none. Sorry but that's the sad reality. JK News no matter how big it becomes, won't get David to where he ultimately wants to be (a big time comedian/hollywood actor). This is no disrespect to JK News or David So as I'm a fan of them both, but the truth is as I stated before that JKNews will never be super huge. JK news is probably 8-15 years away from becoming where it really wants to be.

To be honest I truly like the way in which this vlog was put out. The in depth conversations that you have with your friends I look forward seeing your journey and the way you evolve since the first time I seen you and personally I love the stuff you produce it is never a dull moment watching you. I am always on the edge of my seat looking forward to what you are going to say. Thank you man and keep up the great work.

Seriously though David, you are very lucky to have friends who will be straight up and honest with you. Friends who can criticize and challenge you without sugar coating it. You must be grateful to have both Justin and Kaleef in your life. Sometimes facing the truth can hurt but once you step back you will see that true friends have your back. They challenge you because they see greatness there, and I think after you slept on it you must realize their good intentions.

LOL what i got out of that conversation with Justin and you. Everything he says is to better you and try to initiate to push you to do what you want which is be an actor. He may say stuff that is harsh and sounds rude to you but he is trying to push you to reach your goals. He has a personality too mind you, he is just like you. David you say he is lowkey your acting mentor, if a mentor isn't strong headed and harsh with his pupil how will the pupil learn and move forward to reach his goals. A mentor can't be soft on his pupil. He is a nice sweet guy he probably just wanted you to actually commit on that dream. If i was a mentor and my pupil hasn't done much towards reaching his goal i would be pushy and harp on him too to motivate him. Don't be angry at Justin, he's trying to help you out David.

This was truly some kitchen-table talk. I felt like I was sitting right there with my closest friends and we were just having real talk. I don't think I've ever seen something quite like this on KZbin...and I have to say I kinda like it. It was so raw you kind of forget you're watching this on KZbin. As long as David is comfortable with the content he puts out I'm all for it because say what you will, it was just a real and honest video.

What I got from Justin was sincere and honest. David, it sounds like he really wants to help you get into acting. Shots weren't fired, he was speaking the truth. You just got defensive because you think you've done a lot of work (which you have) but not in the acting world. Only in the youtube world. He's right when he said if acting is something you really want to do, then you'll MAKE time for it!

I re-watched the conversation, and I actually didn't find anything Justin said to be offensive. I can see how someone might get offended, considering how passionate David is about his work, and he's the type of person who wants someone to be blunt with him-especially someone he admires and is seeking feedback from. Some people just don't like sugarcoated critiques. This is just a presumption, but I think what really started the tension was their differing methods of getting to the goal of the subject. David doesn't seem to desire just any opportunity to get where he wants to be- he wants to find THE opportunity that holds meaning and has multiple ways of advancing his skills and other opportunities. That's what I got out of the fact that he declined offers to be on television with the hope and/or expectation that he would advance to that platform with JK. It makes sense: they're his good friends, they're all passionate about some creative aspect (if not multiple) of filming, and they all learn and gain experience from and with each other. Justin, on the other hand, was trying to give David a clear-cut way to reach his goal, and since David had already received opportunities, Justin's advice didn't exactly help him and I'm guessing that's how he became frustrated. I would have asked David what it was about those opportunities that he turned down that made him decide not to do them, and perhaps what other qualities of his goal that he's looking for (such as not giving himself to a network), since he obviously isn't /just/ looking to be on television or in a movie. If he was, I assume he would have already been on it, based on these opportunities he mentioned.

david you're really defensive when talking to justin. he wasn't trying to insult your work and he knows you're grinding, he's just trying to give you tips and make you question your career so that you know whether or not you're going in the right direction. like when he said "they book you from youtube?" and you said "i still got the skills to do standup". he wasn't saying you didn't have the skills to to stand up, more than he was saying "you've got a real fan base from youtube" or when he said "there are step to take to get to traditional media" and you said "i'm not NOT DOING anything"... i don't know, that talk gave me a weird vibe.

+lookingforsure okay i watched the whole video and i loved that you said to khalif you didn't like the WAY justin talked. and i can see why. he's like the hipster friend who doesn't really say anything but still act like he said all the deep shit. I think justin feels empowered when all these youtubers (small or big) wants him as a mentor and hence he can get cocky. but he stills is a good person at heart and for real, david, if you talked about getting into acting but didn"t do it, then maybe you needed that wake up call. (and if he ignored khalif, maybe that's because he's tired of people who aren't his friends, hitting him up when they need something)

I do feel Justin struck a nerve, because some of what he said was true. Sometimes I do feel(and I watch these guys almost everyday) JKN holds you back creatively as for your own channel, but that's how I feel and I can't say it's fact and it won't work out for you. But otherwise mad respect for such a conversation to be handled such a way and then to be uploaded. This is a true vlog. This life vlog was so good! Especially the conversation between Justin and David, with the two of them butting heads and friction with their friendship. And although friends they acknowledge they have differing opinions on a topic and it's liberating to see them work it out as opposed to tiptoeing around each other, it makes their relationship even more admirable as they can be honest with each other. There were many things going on it that conversation as their disagreement with each others career paths was rooted down to what each person constitutes as work. Both Justin and David want each other to apply themselves and explore a new aspect of media but the comfort of doing what they already know is too tempting and in some way, holds them back or as Justin says "Everyone has their kool-aid". I honestly wasn't intending on watching the whole video, "15 minutes? Are you serious? I could watch 3 buzzfeed videos and 2 talk show vids in that time, in this vacuous space of my subscription box" But I was glued to the screen, watched the whole 15 minutes, could probably re-watch. So thank you for uploading this quality content David!

7:00 David, daily vlogs can be films. Utilize the film form, edit with a clear start, middle and end. Give motivation behind shots, do something unique with framing. Do something creative with the form instead of just holding the camera and shooting, then it can be a film. Case and point Casey Neistat.

I think Justin is just trying to share with David what he thinks is the right path for the goal of going into mainstream media from the perspective that worked for HIM. He constantly said that IF you are trying to get into more traditional media THEN you should do x,y,z. I'm sure he thinks doing those things is the best method because thats how he did it, where as David is trying to take a different path. Honestly just a difference of opinion, if you are talking to Justin for his thoughts then he gave them to you, and I think Justin has a point in everything he said. For example, JKnews becoming a TV show? Let's not kid ourselves. Justin was right when he implied that you're saying you want smth but in reality you are working on something different.

Talking to a friend when you want to them to be better than they are now is an art. It's a touchy line and to be fair, most people aren't that amazing at it. But, most friends also don't look out for you like that. I've been in Justin's shoes many times and I hope you appreciate that he's trying to make you think from other perspectives. When you have these type of conversations, you have to be completely genuine and really believe in the other person; make sure they know that.

This new style that you implemented on this vlog is new, extremely raw, and unfiltered. It's different and it stands out compared to other people who vlog their content.
