Not Sorry For Loving You | An EPIC: The Musical Animatic

Always wanted to get around to doing an animatic for a musical. And I thought what better way than 'Not Sorry For Loving You' a song inspired by Calypso and Odysseus! I've always been a fan of Calypso's tragedy, and hearing Jorge's song was too good to pass up. Also wanted to have a glowing flower motive, cos of the Moonlace flower in Percy Jackson!
Please note that as there isn't a full song yet, I attempted to compile all the snippets as best as I could! But I'm still a novice at spectral deletion and audio editing in Audacity, so it's not perfect (please bare with it lol)

It is also unlikely he would have made it out alive himself if he didn't go through with it, or in the case of the musical, if she didnt show him sympathy.

​@@geekasauruswreks8789Odysseus was forced into sleeping with them on both occasions, at least in the version I've heard of. Circe made him choose between the lives of his men, and sleeping with her. It is also likley he would not have made it out alive himself if he did not sleep with her. In Calypso's case, Odysseus spent every day of his seven year stay crying on the beach, thinking of his wife. Calypso forced the intercourse between the two.

You can really tell how much Odysseus feels bad for Calypso, even though she's practically kept him prisoner in hopes he might feel the same way (which is pretty screwed up). He actually does seem to be trying to let her down gently (then again he might just be trying not to anger her cause she's an all power goddess and all). Anyway their story just proves you can't force romantic love nor are entitled to someone's, especially in the Odyssey when she tries to bribe Odysseus with immortality and he still chooses the possibility of being with Penelope again. Sorry Calypso he loves Penelope too much, he'd take her over immortality anyday.

Compared to what a lot of Greek gods were like, calypso is very easy to sympathize with. What she did was pretty awful, but most of the gods motives were super petty for their actions. I think desperation for companionship is a lot better than every time Zeus couldn’t keep it in his pants

@@gameb9oy oh I know, Calypso's action are far from the worst thing the Gods have done. And it is hard not to feel bad for her, but while her past and loneliness explain her actions they do not necessarily excuse them. Though props to her for letting Odysseus go (sort of... without a fight at least) I guess. And in a way she did care (arguments can be made about the love part. Because being love means knowing you're not entitled to someone else's and you can't to force it, in the end it's better to let them go because you want them to be happy) about Odysseus as she did keep him alive (albeit probably for her own benefit) and well I guess. I am trying to be optimistic here. But anyway, Calypso definitely is better than some gods (*cough* Zeus *cough*).

She ruled over the island she lived, and infact she didn't live alone like the musical says, but she lived with others nymphs there. And she kept Odysseus prisoner for 7 years.He was miserable and crying and she had sexual interactions with him but without him wanting.Then Athena request from her father to order Calypso to finally let Odysseus free.

I think it’s less that she can’t comprehend it, more that she sees romantic love as the ultimate love and has never been given any sort of love at all. The fact that her first love is unrequited, even if there is platonic love, makes her feel inadequate. It makes her feel like she’ll never find love, and like she doesn’t deserve it (even if she knows he loves her.) (I relate to this song so badly. Yes I am venting.)

Again, sorry that the audio at 2:23 drops in quality - the clearest audio I could find when splicing was from the Goodspeed Festival, which had an open environment. so the line "i hate that i fell in love with you" the wiki gives some....interesting context to Part of Calypso’s curse is to fall in love with every man that washes ashore on her island, and once she does they are given a way off the island to return to where they’re from. If Calypso doesn’t fall in love than he can’t leave, however, due to her curse she can’t do that. She is stuck in a vicious cycle of heartbreak, and this line truly sums up her pain from bearing this curse placed upon her. ^ basically meaning: she must fall in love with any man who washes ashore on her island but if she does, they'll get a way to leave however, she has no choice but to fall in love with them, because of the curse hot damn greek mythology went hard

The guy who showed me this musical friendzoned me recently and I don't know what to do. I am 10 billion percent sure he cares about me too but he is going through a hard time right now in his life and I think the only thing I can do for him is be there as a friend. Personally, I don't exactly like how they tried to make calipso sympathetic. In the original story, Odessias kept rejecting her but she still slept with him every night, which just to be clear, means she kept graping him every night for seven years. I understand she is a goddess who lived in a world where indulging in this kind of behavior was not seen as a big deal, but there should be no expectation placed on her victim to forgive her or let her down gently. He is still a man who went through hell to get back to his wife and remained faithful to her, despite getting a vague prophecy about her finding another man from Tiresias mind you, meaning this type of intimacy is something sacred to him. Yet this woman completely ignored his wants and his pleading for her to stop. If it's honestly that hard to sympathize with the victim here just switch the genders. If a male god forced himself on a mortal woman for seven years because he "loved" her despite her telling him no and being married and trying for over a decade at this point to get back home to her husband and son, how would that look?
