I think the recruiter guy was just a true believer. I think he was so bought in to all of this that he really looked at the sanctity of the games and their rules almost like some form of religion. He really pulled a Ghoul from Fallout and said, "I do this sh*t for the love of the game!"

They are both sides of the same coin, there is nothing in the real world that would match the trauma they both experienced in the squid game. The rules of the game both gave them a platform to stress test a benchmark, honor and pride was the additive wrinkle for a new high.

I think the recruiter offering homeless people the choice of a game of chance vs food is his own way of justifying his occupation. He does this experiment to vindicate his moral philosophy that people are inherently greedy and will willingly choose to reject necessities and jeopardize their life for the miniscule chance at gaining riches. Therefore people who die in the games deserve it because people always willingly choose to play out of greed even when they know the virtually inevitable negative/losing consequences, and therefore he is not a bad guy for recruiting them. But the fact that he conducts this experiment shows that even he doubts his philosophy deep down - hence his need to conduct the experiment to gain validation and assuage some lingering traces of guilt.

At the end of season 1, I was satisfied with how things wrapped up so I didn't think season 2 would interest me. I was wrong, season 2 is another banger 10/10. The only problem I have is that no one I know will watch it, so there's no one to talk to about it!
